I am SSA, well at least part of it that can help. I have replied both on here and on CA.com. Next time contact us first so we can address it right away and not have to deal with all the incorrect information by others and I would have answered your questions and concerns right away, as in faster than having to find it on the forums later. Anyway, that crack that appears on the back of the surround is odd. Your subwoofer is out of warranty, but it can surely be reconed. Once it is, I think we need to address the enclosure it is in if you feel it is missing certain music. The voice coil is perfectly fine. If you have any other questions, please email me directly and I can help out much faster than on the forums.

12 days ago i pulled my 2, 15in zcons out after running them 11 months. Each one was on its own Crescendo 3500. The only reason I pulled them out was to install my too, 18 inch evil. Granted it's not perfect but first time running this kind of power. I learned about the first two weeks that I had the amp turn too high so I adjusted and been running ever since. I also bought these used and I'm selling them to a friend of mine who's going to use them right away you're right you get what you pay for and I'm not going to pay for an overpriced name I'd Rather Have My Money go to a quality product which is why I'm on my third different SSA subwoofer
  5. I had a 12" BTL N2 in a 2.5 ft3 box, with kerfed port and all... It sounded very nice, and I was in the 139-140 db range (sealed on dash). I sold it to a friend, he bought a new recone and a basket, and now it's a 15" sub : it's wayyyy louder ! No comparison possible. On quite the same power ! I can't even imagine an 18" BTL ! You can be loud with a 12" sub, but not as loud on music with the same sub in a much bigger size. NO WAY ! Going from a FI btl to a DD ? I tried that with a DD9515 : what a disappointment ! A DD is not as musical than a Fi/SSA/AA sub. Have you ever owned one of those subs ?
  6. Then get off the phone, no wonder he doesn't have time left to answer other people.
  7. It is irrelevant how loud one of the two is without the other. The btl can take that amp as well. The math of power, cone area and output obviously allude you.
  8. Just grab a single 12 zcon and build a box that ssa recommends. You will be amazed.
  9. Seriously not true you mean. That would be a big step down in many ways.
  10. Thought I would update this for those that commented or were maybe following. My singer alternator was in need of a rebuild. Mike fixed it up and got it back to me in a timely manner. Its been sitting in my closet for a while now, haven't got around to putting it back in. Hopefully I don't have to do this every two years, it will get old swapping alternators.
  11. Looks great man, cant wait to see what comes out the shop.

Well, I got lucky. The spring on the positive speaker terminal was worn out causing the speaker wire to not make contact with the terminal. All is good once again.

If you feel there is an issue with the Zcon, please email us directly so we can take care of said issue. Zcon's have a stellar reputation for a reason, including world records. So if there is an issue with the Zcon, we clearly want to make it right. It is simply one of the best high power, high output subs on the market. The coils on the Zcon's are dark. Was the sub playing just fine before you pulled it? Where is it lacking on music? There should be no fear on running it again once reconed if that is what needs to be done.

I've had no problem with any of the SSA or Fi subs I had. Me and my friends have ran a few of them, and we are more and more happy ! I try to not abuse my equipments, but I can't speak for my friends !!!
  15. I'm sure he was ssuggesting possible causes. As with any business he's trying verify if he's product is at fault.I've been running Singer for a few years and couldn't be happier with the product/customer service.A week to reply back, probably got busy, wether a day or a week he always had responded to my questions.
  16. Stronger peak. Contrary to what you said you wanted above. Of course, so is the DD in that regard...

  18. Awesomeness. So I think the general consensus is to keep the 18 and rebuild to small optimum spec. Under my hood there's a diagram with a footnote that says "BTL Catalyst" ill have to post a pic

  20. Ow no doubt keeping the 18" would be better but he wants his trunk back and a smaller box and sub.
  21. Well seeing as most of these company's now just use the same off the shelf parts to build most subwoofers it probably want matter. Their is probably what 10 different motors, 10 different cones, spyders, and voice coils used to build dozens of the same woofer with a different company's logo stuck on it. Same with amps. It's not a coincidence most of these woofers look like cookie cutter versions. Now honestly tell me I'm wrong and fi ain't the same subs as ssa or soundquebed and just a copy of a DD or a number of amps like DC, ampere, and several more ain't the same board with a new case and logo.
