  1. I am working on an install for my buddy. I am looking at enclosure options for two Ethos 12" powered by a Crescendo BC2000D. The goals of the sub system is to sound good and be loud, should be easy Will 3 cubes net tuned to 32hz with a 6" aero port work well with two Ethos 12" powered by a BC2000D? BTW this is going in a late model Civic.
  2. I also wonder how the impedance curve will vary between two and four subwoofers. Is it possible that the impedance curve could be shallower with one setup vs the other?
  3. If you fly around full tilt all the time...listening to sine waves
  4. Get the build log started already!
  5. Nice sub!!!! Bass level should be at zero regardless. Gain setting is irrelevant since every setup is different.
  6. Power compression will be a major variable to consider and also the most unpredictable. Although how can we even consider power compression since we can not predict it when the system is used in a "daily" scenerio?
  7. Same motor and soft part assembly. The difference is cone size and basket. Same amount of power is applied and the same size/tuning enclosure. What I am noticing in winISD is that the two 15" are more efficient and the four 12" have a less than 3db higher output. Is it fair to say that the output difference between four 12" and two 15" are negligible with same power and enclosure? FYI I compared four 12" xcons and two 15" xcons in 8^3ft tubed to 32hz. I also compared four 15" xcons and two 18" xcons in 15^3ft tuned to 32hz. The 15" & 18" comparison gave the same results as mentioned above.
  8. [email protected] Got it. Look for an order for two Ethos 12" D2 from my buddy Bob
  9. Other than this forum what is the best way to get a hold of you for ordering?
  10. Is this a preorder for the 12" or will they ship now?
  11. Obvious troll. IDK why a few fed into that.
  12. You are a little late, I sold all 25 PPI amps that I had.
  13. I trimmed 0.450" off the formers. They cone assembly fits in the baskets perfectly. The coils and spiders are fitted and glued. I am using my 0.500" ABS spacer between the spiders. The bottom spider is mounted top down (flipped) compared to the top spider. I wasnt sure what I was going to do for speaker wires. I was thinking about direct leads. I decided to go with normal connections but now I have to wait for the parts to come. About 7 sheets of paper for shims. Coil/spider assembly.
  14. Look'n great!
  15. I am cutting the former not the coil windings. This does not effect the electrical properties of the coil. The weight of the coil will now be slightly less.
  16. As you can see this is a slow build. I am in no rush. Although anxious to hear them. The motors are mounted via stainless hardware. As I expected the coils are a tad too long. With the cone in position I will need to remove 0.400" from the coils. I plan on doing this today.
  17. You need to start building and testing.
  18. Lord is Apple stuff ridiculously expensiveI agree that Apple products are expensive but justified. The Pure I-20 is a iPhone/iPod dock with built-in DAC including coaxial, optical, RCA and video output connections for $90 shipped through Amazon. IMO that isn't expensive. You could connect any Apple audio/video device to it with an optional cable. Also there is the Bluetooth option with the 6to8. I haven't researched the playback quality going this route.
  19. In addition to the above posts, a y-splitter does NOT halve the voltage. If you had 10V output and connected a y-splitter, each "leg" of the splitter would still provide 10V. With this in mind, is it possible to use no headunit using the ipod and line driver method. sacrificing volume and EQ control of course. all while giving the two amps healthy input signal? This is the line driver I use with my ipod when I need a test signal. The volume control is nice. It is cheap and works well. They have a two channel version as well. BTW if I was going to use an ipod as a source signal in an installation it would be this route: ipod -> pure i-20 (using optical output) -> dsp I would choose a dsp with an auxiliary display that included a volume control that has sufficient output voltage. The 6to8 V8 comes to mind.
  20. Is coil overhang the length of the coil outside the gap or the length of the coil from the midpoint to end?
  21. Enclosure looks sick.
  22. It is possible that the specs on the new sub are not the same as the older version. This could explain the response differences you are hearing.
  23. Wattage does not affect the sound of a speaker in the way that you are thinking.
  24. You are a much better writer than me!
