Tune for your goals. If you want to maximize output with out losing low end, tune higher in the suggested range. If you want to keep the response as flat as possible, tune lower in the range.

I have not been around their amps in years. The PH-D1 was it? and the KX1200 were the competition amps of choice at the time. But for some reason I am remembering issues with really high THD.
