Lost too much money at the casino Saturday. Roulette is no longer my friend. Dammit. We only went there because two distinct groups of girls that said they wanted to hang out with us earlier in the night while we were at the Royals game left us hanging after it. Dammit2.
  2. With a box that big you'll have to custom fit it to your trunk. Go get the maximum dimensions that the box can be and go from there.
  3. Tune high, like 45 hz. But to get the maximum SPL you'll have to just play with adjusting the tuning and testing on a mic until you find the best frequency.
  4. You will need at least that.
  5. take the head unit out of the equation and hook up an ipod, cd player, etc., to the RCAs and see if it does the same thing. If not, you know you need a new HU.
  6. What are the specs of the box you have them in now?

My friend wants to go to Hooters before the Royals game. I'm always a little disappointed with the waitresses there as far as looks go. It's kinda surprising, as you would think they'd get the hottest ones.
  8. You can put a 1500 watt amp on the sub, sure. Whether it'll handle it depends on your box and how you play it. You should also get the cooling options. No need for two threads.

Two months ago my stepdad won $3200 on one pull in Las Vegas, and last weekend my mom won $1500 in Louisiana. Maybe I should go try, see if the luck of late runs in the family.

Turned off the A/C two days ago and looks like I should easily be able to keep it off through the weekend. Suh-weet dude.
  12. Dents in the dustcap should have no effect on sound. Missing/blown off dust caps, on the other hand, change things a bit. Just another reason why I love inverted dust caps!

    oh no lost posts
  14. I used a red top one in my old car, which is basically like the cheaper version of the optima red top. Worked well. I'm sure there are more powerful batteries out there, but I never had any problems with that one.

  16. How do you have that dual 4 ohm sub wired to the amp? My thoughts are one of two- either you have the voice coils wired in parallel and bridged two channels of the amp to it, in which case you'd be running at 2 ohms bridged which is below rated impedance levels, or because the amp (and the other small amp) were not powerful enough for the sub you overdrive the crap out of them trying to make up the difference in output.

And the heavy storms are coming tonight AGAIN. Should be here in probably 3 hours. This one had ping-pong ball sized hail for 15 minutes reported earlier. Luckily I still have a garage for a few more days to park my Explorer in. This is a very stormy summer, even for Kansas. But what has been surprising is the lack of tornadoes. Seems like nearly every storm like this in Kansas produces tornadoes historically, but I haven't heard of any in a long time.

That wasn't nearly as bad as they made it seem. I figured the car would be totally destroyed or something. That was like the least amount of damage possible in a race crash. That is one of the hardest little turn stretches at any track, though.
  19. Those speakers are widely sold, go to a shop and listen for yourself so that you get what YOU like. As for best 4" speaker, it depends entirely on what you want to do with it.

The Mustang sure fared better in the corners. Seemed like it was stuck to the road like glue.
  21. Oh I forgot to compare the depth of port to the depth of the box. You can do a couple of things to fix it, and I'll put them in order of most desirable to least, based on a generic trunked car. You can put a 90 degree angle in the port inside the box so that it runs parallel with the back wall, you can stick the port out of the front of the box by a couple inches, or you can put the port on a different baffle, such as the side, so that it fits completely within the enclosure. What kind of car do you have? If you have a hatchback or an SUV, many people have actually had luck with the sub facing up with the port facing backwards. That would solve the problem fairly well in that case. As for the port distance question, you generally want to be at least the diameter of the port away from the back wall or wherever the port opens to.

Another storm. This has been the stormiest year I can remember. At least it waited until I was awake this time. Right after I turned off my alarm and turned back over to lay there for a minute and collect my thoughts, huge white flash of the first lightning of the storm. Nice.

agreed As long as they're a hottie. I think they have more than the average number of mingers over there.
  24. Pretty much everything that you said you'll just have to get on a mic and try, because they work in some cars but not others. But generally any way you can take obstructions out of the way between the subs and mic is good. You can also try placing a small board over part of the port. If you cut down on port size that'll raise the tuning frequency, which is better for SPL.
  25. no need for two same topics.
