Posted July 26, 200916 yr I have had my BTL for less than 1 year and it is now dead. I had it powered by a zx2500.1and it is in a properly sized and tuned box.. NO bass boost, subsonic on, gain 1/2 way up. The spider is ripped a little bit but I can not see any other damage. IT does smell funny. I am a responsible user and did not abuse the sub whatsoever. I have been installing and using car audio for years,. Does Fi have some kind of warranty, Can I send it back for a recone? I would appreciate any input. THanks Edited July 26, 200916 yr by bassfreq

THanksWhat sort of charging system do you have for that amp? It sounds like you clipped it to death, did you measure the voice coils? No offense, but if it smells burned you were not being responsible. Just because you had the gain 1/2 way does not mean anything, there are many other factors. I don't believe there is a warranty due to the nature of the sub. Sounds like time to recone.
July 27, 200916 yr There is no warranty...The Kicker amps have one major flaw as they do not have a adjustable subsonic filter. I believe it is set at 25Hz @ 12dB per octave which is a very low shallow slope for a SSF. Your enclosure would have to be tuned 30Hz or lower for it to be effective..What you saw happen was the toll of time of abuse of not having a proper subsonic filter / tuning of the enclosure for the amp. No sub will take that if it is any sort of high excursion woofer or anything that has a long coil that is designed to move more then say 25mm.You can definitely send it in for a recone and we can get you back running again no problem, but if you are planning on flopping another speaker in that same box with that same amp it simply isn't going to last. Thanks!Nick
July 27, 200916 yr Yeah, I'm afraid you aren't as responsible as you think. After a year it is no longer a manufacturer defect. You simply had too much power on it.
July 27, 200916 yr damn that sucks to hear man and I hope you get everything worked out in the end(I hate being system or bassless). Im glad I didnt buy a kicker or piooneer monoblock amp just for that reason their (no adjustable sub sonic filter). I know you paid an arm and leg for it but I suggest you sell the amp, get a recone for you BTL and buy a Sundown amp. good luck
July 27, 200916 yr Author dont get me wrong im not putting any fault on the subwoofer. It has been great and extremely loud for a single 15. So you would think it would be ok with a box tuned lower than mycurrent 33?
July 27, 200916 yr sell that amp and get one with a variable subsonic filter. just my opinion. I don't like kicker amps because of this fixed subsonic filter. You don't have much room to play around with box specs.

Maybe you should look at Zapco. It also helps that I am the rep out here for Zapco, and having a BTL, I can attest that it is a MUCH BETTER PRODUCT than Kicker. We built a system in a Honda Element running 2, just 2 Zapco 9.0's to 8 Cerwin Vega vmax 15's and it hit 159-160dB consistent. I have absolute faith in the product, and yours too. August 26, 200916 yr Zapco makes great stuff..however the vast majority of the people who run the subs simply can not afford a zapco amplifier...because they are pricey.I just use Kicker amps in the demo vehicle because they work well and I have the processing power to not have to worry about the amplifiers not having a subsonic filter...-Nick
