Posted June 20, 201015 yr So my knew 220 anp alternator came in I cant fully test it cause Auto Zones tester only goes up to 100 amps but it's working fine as far as I can tell. Here's my problem my 2002 Taurus Idle stop is set around 900 RPM (no dimming out of gear) holding at the 100 mark on Auto Zones meter but when I put my car in gear the RPM drop tp 550 to 600 only giving me an output of 68 amps so if I'm at a stop light I get slight dimming. I did a eye test and left my interior lights on and the get super bright when I get to about 1400 to 1600 (not exactly sure cause the guage isn't that defined) with absolutly no dimming. Has any one else had this gear engaged problem and can it be solved.
June 20, 201015 yr Are you saying that the alternator shuts off under 550-600 RPMs? Do you know what the alternator rating is suppose to be at idle?
June 20, 201015 yr Author Are you saying that the alternator shuts off under 550-600 RPMs? Do you know what the alternator rating is suppose to be at idle?It doesn't shut off just that when I engage the gear in drive and I'm stopped my car automatically drops the RPM to 550 dropping the alt to 68 amp. Out of gear at Idle my RPM are 900 with at least a 100 amp output and since I got the bolt on alt for my car not the fitzall he said a little over 800 would give me 100 amps.
June 20, 201015 yr Author i always pop mine into nutral at a stop light... just because of that issue. So I'm not the only one. I feel a little better but I wish a mechanic could go in and manually set idle RPM in gear.

June 20, 201015 yr Author What size battery or batterys do you have installed? Have you installed the big3?Big three done with 1/0 and have the Kinetic HC1800 with seperate 4 guage runs to a Rockford T6002 (789 RMS at 14.4) and a Rockford T6004 (792 RMS at 14.4) and my alt charges at 14.38V with 1.5 foot grounds severly sanded metal and stinger 4 gauge crimp terminals. You think it's better to combine grounds in a dual 4 gauge terminal block. I've heard it's better to do that.

June 20, 201015 yr You will be fine grounding both amps to one point without a distributing block. As BigJon stated a second battery is really the only way to overcome this.
June 20, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the replies I installed my first system in 92 when a pair of 300 watt RMS subs was a lot. And alternators weren't an issue. Hell I still owm two PPI power series amps one a 2x75 RMS wich is closer to 2x125 RMS and a 2x50 wich is about 2x75+ and a Carver 2090mi and a pair of Kicker Stillwater Designs 150 4 Ohm 12's. They still sounded and hit great before I "upgraded". I still think since the spider and foam surround is softer than newer sub designs they could move almost as much air as some of the higher watt subs on the market these days.
June 20, 201015 yr Could always get a kill switch and kill your bass at stop lights stop the cops from starring

June 20, 201015 yr Not really sure how "reputable" power bastards is, They gave me some shady answers when i sent them to the owner, not so evil shady, but off putting shady.

June 24, 201015 yr Sitting at lights bangin lol. I had 3 rockford ti's and some type rf amps back in the day sitting at a light with this guy and a little old man and lady pull up next to me looked and asked me if that was needed and the grandma shot me the finger!

I had a pair of those, did very very well for 150wrms... Wish they hadn't gotten stolen.

June 28, 201015 yr i myself bang at stoplights but i pay attention to my surroundings and if there's old folks or anyone that looks over 40 and wouldnt like it i pause it. and if they look like decent people and there on there phones ill turn it down. but if its anyone under 30 or some random skank or douchbag with an expensive car and there on there phones i bang full tilt just cause the looks i get r funny. if its someone who seems cool or has kids in the car ill turn it down. plus its louder when im at a stop rather than rolling(no a/c windows down). if ur at a stop and wanna bang without going to neutral just hold the brake and ease on the gas stalll it up like u would a race car

It's stuff like that that gets real audio enthusiasts get into trouble.Maybe. But i don't understand why it's okay for cars to rev their engines when they have a exhaust on and not get into trouble or ruin their "sport." I don't understand why motorcycles can be loud and also rev their engines at people without any consequences. Yes, we can turn down our volume, but they can quiet their cars/motorcycles too. I play at full tilt 24.7 unless i am in a neighborhood. It's legal to a certain extent and i am going to do it. I might think about stopping once motorcycles and loud cars "turn down" their shit first. If you don't like it, roll up your window. If you can still hear it, get over it or stop driving around with the risk of having to hear it

My singe 12 off of 750rms is hardly enough to be considered a disturbance. I mean, I do turn it down sometimes, if it seems like it's really getting on somebody's nerves, but that's really not much of an issue around here. Spoiled ass kids are much louder than me.
