Hi-

I'm trying to design my box for the Xcon's I am going to purchase soon. I have 13.58 cubic feet gross to work with in my trunk. Problem is, I want to do forward firing sealed off from the trunk and the opening behind the seats is not big enough to accommodate the port. The opening is 35" long and 20" tall. I can't fit a large enough port to be effective. I am considering porting through the rear deck with 6" aeros or something (maybe some huge slot port through the rear deck?), would this be effective? I'm assuming I could still seal all around the ports and have it sound good.

My other options are, sealed 15's, sealed 18's (that'd be cool, but idk), or ported 12's. I know ported 12's would be the easiest, but for some reason I have always wanted 15's, 18's, or 21's lol. I'll do the 12's if it's the absolute best option, I don't want to get 15's and have them sound like .

What do you guys think?

If you can port through the deck and fire through the pass though, and still have plenty of air space for 15's, it is worth a shot.

I'd have to work it out a bit more, but do you think 4 4" aero ports (flared) would be sufficient? I'm fairly sure I can fit 4 of them. The 6 inch ones are probably out of the question because I also have to take the mounting depth of the Xcons into account. Does anyone know the mounting depth for a 15" Xcon?

I think it's a great idea. I saw a build log somewhere where a guy put a 15" or 18" sealed to the cabin with the aero's coming up through the rear deck like you're referring to doing. He used fiberglass and flushed them into the rear deck so it all looked integrated and turned out absolutely amazing looking, not to mention it was mean as hell.

I'll look and see if I can find the build log and post up the link.

Damn, that means I can't be lazy and just order them on parts express lol. Maybe I could fit a few more 4" ports, like 5 or 6. I'm not sure if I could do 5" ones just because of the mounting depth problem with the Xcon. The rear deck in this car is really short and tall. I hope I can do this lol. I'm going to have to keep re-designing, and if it doesn't work out I'll just have to go with the 12's.

Yeah... I'm definitely considering it. The extra space would be kind of cool, I was just hoping this would be the build that I could use some big speakers with a little ingenuity (turned out to be a lot of it). My stubbornness wants me to keep trying but my logic is telling me to just do the twelves.

A 4" port gives 12.56" of port area, I beleive you need 1-4" port for each cu.' of box space. The 6" will give 28.26" of area. Might need to check me on that. Decisions, Decisions it is dificult to decide which way to go...Good Luck!

With aero ports you need 55%-70% of the conventional port area you would need. so lets say you use about 8 cuft after displacements for your two xcons.. Following the rule of 12-16 square inches of port per cube, you would need 96-128 inches of port area with a non flared port. With the aero's, you will need 53-90 square inches of port area. Personally i'd try to get around 70... (3) 6 inch areos gives you 85 square inches. (5) 4 inch ports gives you 63 square inches.. You could do the three 6's and be fine. But they would each have to be about 23 inches long for 33 Hz tuning.. You could do the five 4's also, and they would only have to be about 17.5 inches long for 33 Hz. Just five of these ports will be expensive.. You could probably do a slot port if it didn't interfere with the subs once they are mounted.. Also, you are building this for 2 15" Xcons right?

Yes this would be for the 15's, if I can. I'll have to see if I can fit all of these ports after work lol.

Well, I did design a box that would fit the 15's ported to 32 hz. It would actually work, but I'd have to take out the middle seat belt, and cut a huge hole in the rear deck which I've decided is too much of a pain to be worth it. The port would have be 4" x 32" for 128 sq in of port area. Even if I made it smaller it would have been too hard, so I've decided to go with the 12's. Now I just need to decide who I want to design the box for me (I want it to be spot on).
