Posted August 31, 201015 yr hello all, i was just wondering what would be optimal box specs for 2-18" Ns v.1. they're both d1's. power to be ran on them is 2 saz 3ks strapped @ 1 ohm .it says on the website 4-5ft.^3 anywhere form 30-40hz.i was planning on 10 cu. after dipslacement.tuning to 35 hz. 16 in^2 per. cu. ft.gonna go with a center slot portlet me know what you guys think.thank you!
August 31, 201015 yr With that much power you may want to go smaller on the internal volume but others will chime in with more help.
August 31, 201015 yr 10 cubes is a bit big, but they should be okay. I'd have more port area though. Use this.
August 31, 201015 yr more port and 10 should be fine if it isn't well add more wood to the internal of the box lol
September 1, 201015 yr Author thanks for the input guys! just wondering if anyone knew the Xmax of the 18" nightshade v.1? didn't find it on the SD site.
September 2, 201015 yr Author wow the port size calculator told me to that min. port area is 268.43in.^2. that's almost 27in.^2 per cube. is this right?!? i've never seen a box with that much port area.
September 2, 201015 yr The port area per cube rule of thumb is rarely correct when dealing with high excursion drivers. Build the port to accommodate the woofer, not the enclosure the woofer is in.
September 2, 201015 yr Author alright guys been crunching some numberscar stereo port calc. suggested 268in^2 min. port area for the 2 subshere's what i gotnet vloume= 9.24ft.^3 port area= 283.5in^2 tuning= 35hz.and it's not center slot port anymore, changed it to L slot port.the port is 9.58ft^3. WOW?!?!better?! lol let me know what you guys think.thanks! Edited September 2, 201015 yr by mikke
September 2, 201015 yr Wassup Mike! Duran, you da man! Sorry for the thread jack... continue... haha!
September 2, 201015 yr Being an L port vs. a center slot port won't make a difference, just another configuration.
September 2, 201015 yr Author i'm going for a daily ground pounder. would this be the port area for it? or is this more for tl?
September 2, 201015 yr Port area doesn't change for daily driving or SPL, port function remains the same.
September 6, 201015 yr Author okay well i also made some plans for a 35hz. i'm going for a daily ground pounder so let me know what you guys think. either the 32 or 35 hz box design. thanks!
September 6, 201015 yr Author alright! that's a good enough okay to start building! as soon as i get some time on my hands
