Hello to ya all..

Just wanted to introduce myself- my name is Jarvis and I'm 17 years old. I am from state of Indiana, and i own a 95 Ford Explorer..

A member from forums mainly about explorers introduced me to this forum.. which i found many cool stuffs and helpful informations..

I am very interested in buying a Fi subwoofer anytime soon.. I m currently saving money for the sub, shouldnt be too long since I got a job..

I just got some questions before i can ask more questions.. I just want to ask the question to people who has experience with Fi.. I am debating on which to get- a 15 inch Q or a 15 inch BL? I know that Q is provided as is while BL has some options, but i m not sure if I know what purpose does those options serve.. would be nice someone could explain me about those options..

I love bass more than anything in music so i wanna it to hit some insane lows.. I m planning on strapping it to a JBL 1201.1 amplifier so I just wanted to see which sub do you guys think i should get..

answers to the questions would be appreciated.. thanks in advance..

p.s. here is some pics of my explorer in case you guys want to see it..(i m not sure if thats too much pictures ha)

many thanks!

The JBL 1201.1 is a good match for the Q!

Welcome over here Jarvis!

yeahh, you re the one who recommended the jbl amp, and i ended up falling in love with it ha.. and i m pretty sure it ll work good even with BL which i m still debating on.. also, i m still working on getting a GTO75.4II jbl amp from the guy on caraudio.com, he seem to be lagging to respond my pm's..

and thanks for the warm welcome!

Hey man what city do you live in? I live in Evansville and Ive got a Q 15' so if your close you could hear is sometime, if your intristed.

I live in Fishers, near Indianapolis..

After looking around on ficaraudio.com and talking to a guy.. i think i m going to want a 15" BL with every option except for extreme lead since it is not recommended for daily use.. i m going to use it daily..

so now here my question.. if i got a 15 inch BL with all options except for extreme lead then how many WRMS will it be giving out??

I just want to know so i can know which amp to get.. I m planning on getting a JBL 1201.1 class D amp.. but i m not sure if that is going to be enough.. hopefully it will be..

thanks in advance

The fully loaded BL would easily hadle 1500w, but I think that the JBL 1201 would be fine. Giving it an extra 300w wouldn't give you much of an output difference. Someone else may be able to elaborate on this.

^^ i guessed right then.. i was thinking it should be able to do 1500.. but like what you said 300 watts extra shouldnt give me much of output difference... but probably the sub wont be able to break in since i m not going to be able to push it at its fullest?

You don't need to run a speaker at its full RMS rating to have it break in...the suspension will naturally loosen up over time.

also be careful of your wording, subs don't give out power, amps do, subs handle the power amps provide

are you talking to me?

i dont think i ve stated that subs give out power..

So powerful sound doesn't exist?

I've had some powerful subs. And powerful amps.

Welcome to the forum. Youll find SSA a nice place to stay... infinetely more flame free than most of the other forums.

Does the 1201.1 have a subsonic filter? I wont recommend an amp without one for a ported application. I remember all the issues I had at RE with the older JBL1200.1 without the SSF and its nasty clipping habits.

I had thought I read something in a post about subs giving out power too... well odd terminology given how most car audio people talk of speakers and amps... it still wouldnt be wrong. Subs simply change Watts electrical to Watts acoustic. Power none the less. Now if we could only get them to be better at convering the power and not being curling irons kicking of waste heat ;)

Wes... I told you not too mention that monster Q sub to anyone ;) I havent quite perfected the 15' Q cone yet, although I have done a 24" recently :)

Thanks,

Scott

I think Vladd was referring to this question about "how many WRMS will it be giving out?" from the sub....which doesnt make sense.

24" cone.... that sounds familiar..... would that meant a 24" sub? Would be cool to brag around with it though.

JBL 1201.1 doesnt seem to have subsonic filter based on the details on the website..

maybe someone who knows JBL stuff can chime in on this one..

but what does subsonic filter do exactly??

a subsonic filter is basically a crossover that you set at or around the tuning frequency of your ported box so your sub won't play below that frequency. The reason for this is because in a ported application it is harmful to the sub if it plays below the tuning frequency of the box. In a sealed application there is no need for a subsonic filter.

i see.. the problem is that i m going to set it up with a ported box so i guess subsonic filter is a must for my set up..

what ampilifier, with subsonic filter obviously, is recommended for a fully loaded BL?

ever thought of looking at the ED NINE.1 amps? good looking, reliable, and a little underated too. $365.

x2 the Nine.1 is a great amp. Very underated.

Alright I gonna Be a Dork  and say that a speaker can put out power however not really applicable.

Hook up a volt meter to your coils and move the cone up and down you get a voltage.

Same kinda principle that those battery less flashlights work you move a magnet through the coil to produce power thats stored in the capacitor till used by the led. :ughdunno:

Hifonics Bxi2006d has filters, shipped it's a little less than 350 off ebay. there's also the 1600d for almost 100 cheaper.
