I have a 12inch dcon. It says that 2.25cu.ft. is "optimal" and the smallest you should build it is 1.75cu.ft. Lets say they are both tuned the same. What is the difference in sound, etc? What is lost or gained by making the box that much bigger? Also, I listen to mostly rock with a decent amount of rap music thrown in there. I'm looking for a nice middle ground tuning and a box that can be easily moved if needed. I was considering 2.0cu.ft. tuned to 32hz. Would you suggest something different? Thanks. (also, I know less power usually calls for a bigger box, I'll be running 340rms or slightly over to the sub) Thanks!

I went to a little car showoff / competition yesterday. This was in no way an actual 'organized' competition. Classes were setup as single subwoofer / double subwoofers / Three + subwoofers. After going through all the contestants, they handed out the trophies and prizes. First up was single subwoofer, my class! They call third place, at a 136.9db (I think i got this shit in the bag for 2nd place and my buddy would get 1st place). Then, they call 2nd place.. NOT me 142.1db. Finally they call my buddy for first place at 148.7db. So. I go up to the sheet and check my name.. I got 144.7db! They skipped my name i guess.. Anyways i told the instructor of the competit…

Hello all. So I just sold a sub for the first time and I need to ship it safely. Its a 10" Icon and I still have the original box that it came in, I also still have the 4 pieces of foam that were used to keep the sub from moving during shipping. My question is, how do I reattach those pieces of foam safely and securely? I am worried that just gluing them back in place is just not a good solution, I feel that they would come loose too easily. My other thought is to cut out pieces of cardboard/foam the size of the box and stack them until it secures the sub in place. I am worried if I use cardboard there is potential to damage the surround. So any ideas, suggestions o…

A year or two ago I had a box made by the local shop, I asked them to build it the specs of IA for the LI 15 but I'm doubtful they did so? The port looked and always seemed too small, it doesn't have any L shap as far as the port goes its just straight back and seems too slim...how would I measure the port to see the tuning and determine the total cubic feet? Also by first glance, does anyone think something is wrong here with the port....when I see most other builds by specs they all look a lot bigger...shady shops, only in it for the money smh.. I'll upload some more pictures tomorrow for a better look...

Does anybody else run their mids and highs with their head unit? I would get a separate amp but I'd need to upgrade my electrical beforehand. I have re 6x9s in the back and stock in the front and its really not loud at all....to be honest the stock Charger SXT head unit sounded great but since I switched it the panasonic head unit its really not as audibly sound.

Hello, I recently got an xbl^2 xxx motor from a friend. I was wondering who would have a re-cone kit for it. I have the motor and basket, I checked on Fi's website, but they don't seem to have it. I did see the MT's recone kit though, was wondering if I could use MT soft parts?

Im currently running an icon 12 in a 2 cu ft ported enclosure tuned to 32 hz on a sundown sae 1200 v2 @ 1 ohm. I had a pair of fi ssds (d1s) before this, but i only ran one. when i bought the icon, i sold my friend one of the ssds and planned to throw the other in my gfs car but i never got around to it. well my friend has had the ssd for almost 2 maybe 3 months ago (has not used it) and text me the other day and asked if i knew anyone that would want to buy it ($100...i sold it to him for 125). so im kind of thinking about buying it back. the amp i have for my gfs car is a rd 1000 v1 amp (ik not the most favorable company, but ive had the amp for 5ish years and not a pro…

After only 1 year my JBL component tweeter died. I am officially done with made in China garbage, this set wasn't even cheap! I replaced them with an MB Quart RVF 269 set I found at a local shop for $140. Made in Germany is on everything, even a sticker on a bag of hardware! This set sounds way better than the JBLs for half the price. I wished they were silk tweeters, but I guess you can't have everything. Now I need to save up another $150 to get that DCON.

I sold my Q's to a local guy with a S10 extended cab truck. He wanted to be able to see out of the back window and not wall it. There is very little room to work with but I managed to get 10.8cu after all displacement and bracing etc. Subs forward and port firing up, I have heard this is the way to go in these little S10's so hopefully it is loud and sounds good on music. This guy will be eating the steering wheel but this is what he wants, he is much smaller than me so I guess its not big deal My new shop tables, huge and I love them. The box is on the small side but hopefully it will be ok. Here is what I have done His truck is red so this subtle add of red in the…

For those that have not seen my build log which is kind of old it is located here. http://www.soundsolu...og/page__st__30 I am still using 4 old school Rockford Fosgate RFR2215 subs. Since then I decided to do a 4th order wall in my Mountaineer. Just got it in this past weekend and in time for Slamology. Here are a few pictures Design It was designed so I can pull it back out and go back to my ported box if I need to I took this 2x2 support out and used pipe and flanges instead. A lot more strength It was a tight fit but my friend and I managed to lift this box and get it in there. Loading wall and port in Used a pool noodle to seal around the edge of the wall…

My buddy just picked it up. Has a lot of gadgets going with the HU. Can he upgrade it? Or, will it make him lose some of the finctionality of the displays and whatnot? It has plenty of room in the trunk and could uae some audio upgrades. Stock is bose speakers. They still dont sound great IMO.

My e12 came in the mail today (sweet sub btw!) so I put it in my custom sub box in the car to see how it looks (2.00cuft tuned 32hz) and the sub hole is sliiiightly too small (won't fit completely flush). Any ideas on how to make this work? I suppose sanding down the hole till the sub can fit flush. What would be the easiest and safest way to get the sub to fit? I know for sure that I want to use this box, so another box isn't an option. (paid $120 for box) they even said oversized subs may require slight mod to box. I'm a little upset though that the sub won't fit. But any ideas please let me know. Thanks in advance.

In my town, we have absolutely nobody to consult for car audio...so I am in dire need of some advice. I have about $1000 budget (as posted above). I just put in a pioneer head unit, so that part is taken care of. With the budget, Ide like to replace the 4 stock speakers (all 5 1/4", 2 in the rear roof, 2 in the front door panels). And then I am sacrificing some space in the trunk for a sub box. My dimensions are 20" height, 35" width, 15" bottom depth", 8" top depth. I have no idea on what direction I want to go other than Im thinking 2 12's with the space I have and an amp to match them, but I really want to avoid extra batteries and alternators and so forth (if I can).…

So I've been debating on how to do my front stage for a while, and would appreciate some help. I currently have an 880prs for the processing and 8 channels of amplification to work with. I have an arc 400.4 and an older cadence ZRS-4. These are the drivers that I have http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-352 http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=277-035 http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-376 I need help with crossover points. One of my latest ideas was to ditch the tweeter and run the full range higher. (Is it possible to have it play that high, or a bad idea?) I know that I'm probably leaving out vital inf…
