So I've got a few more options for you guys to run through with me. I'm attempting to reuse a lot of my old system so I don't have to go through the ordeal of selling it all and rebuying most of it. So here's where I stand so far: 7" Mids one of the following choices: Seas W18EX-001 Seas W18NX-001 Peerless XG18WH00 Tweets I'll be re-using my Aurasound silk 1" tweets Amps I was going to go with DLS, but I have a Monitor 1 combo I want to try and use - Monitor 1 Mk4.70 for tweets and mids (with matching MX-1 crossover) - Need a sub amp (300w @ 4ohm minimum) Head Unit something with DVD playback capabilities. Since I'll be using an active crossover already, I don't really …

Hey guys I stopped by a local car audio shop today and talked with a salesmen for almost an hour. 90% of their products are Kenwood and he swears by them. He had a lot to say and I was just wondering if it was true because there were some things I have never heard. He said that running an amp at 1 ohm is a bad idea because the sound quality drops significantly. He also said that you should spend more on your box than on your subs because the box is responsible for 75% of your bass. He also had very little good to say about Fi or sundown but that scosche is a very well respected for their sub woofers and amps I don't know if any of it is true or not but if you guys have an…

Hey guys, im currently redoing my build. I plan on doing two 8" sundown neo pro along with a good tweeter in each door as well as maybe glassing a 4" component set in the pillars. Also gonna be running 4 DC 15" XL's, but im looking now at a processor. This is my first big build like this and im new to this whole processor thing so be gentle please haha. My headunit is the pioneer Avic-Z130BT if that matters. I just want to clean things up a bit and do everything the right way so can someone suggest what i need to do and just exactly what a processor will do in my setup?

Asset sale puts frustrating close to Phoenix Gold saga The Portland Business Journal - by Aliza EarnshawBusiness Journal staff writer Struggling audio equipment maker Phoenix Gold International Inc. has found a buyer, but some long-suffering shareholders stand to be wiped out. Phoenix Gold managers told investors at last week's annual meeting that the company plans to sell its assets for not much more than its estimated liquidation value. Those attending the meeting were not told who is buying Phoenix Gold, only that the buyers are not current company managers. The proposed deal could put an end to Phoenix Gold's often tumultuous history as a public company. The once-pr…

Running a 10" JL (300 RMS) on an Alpine amp at 150 RMS at 4 ohms and I just fried it. Same happened to my last 10" Punch. I thought i had the sub matched perfectly to my amp but obviously I am doing something wrong. Anyone know of any good instructional material I can read to educate myself before I waste any more money? I wanted to upgrade my sub and amp but not if I am going to just ruin another driver. I do listen with the bass boost up and at high volume, I am definitely hard on my subs, but thats why I was careful not to over power this one. What else could I be doing wrong? HELP!

Today i hooked an amp up to my front stage. Sounds great, except for the buzzing i can hear when music is paused. My amp for the front stage is grounded the same way my amp for my sub is, and yet i still get buzzing. It's kind of a high pitched buzzing, with really high pitched sounds mixed in that kind of fluctuate. It only buzzes when there's a source though. Once i plug my iphone into the head unit, the buzzing starts. And using the touch screen on the iphone, such as scrolling, makes a sound. I can hear it whenever i scroll with the screen. My head unit can't be the problem. I used to have a low rumble with my sub (like this buzzing) and i fixed the ground on my hea…

I haven't installed anything in a year, but my buddy needs an experienced mind. He's got an eighth gen civic si, and would like to replace the stock, 8" sub. He's up for complete removal, since he knows he won't get a true subwoofer-type sound without an enclosure or sealing the trunk. Now, it needs to be extremely stealth (carpeted box, all black, tucked in the corner, no visible wires anywhere). He's dead-set on a type-r and an alpine 500W amp to match. I'll set him up with some black knu wiring, too. Two options I've thought of for the box: -Sealed, cut to the shape of the rear, side of the trunk, carpeted, with a grille. -bandpass, carpeted, ported up and to…

This seemed like an appropriate place to put this, sorry if its not. I would like to get recommendations on good installers in the central/north central Ohio area. I want to talk to someone about my custom glass enclosure I plan to build, see how feasible it is or possibly have the shop do it if I think it's too much for me to handle. I really want someone who can teach a bit here. Not just looking to make a sale, someone I can talk to. Any ideas?

I have a couple questions about setting the gain, and the settings I should be using on my head unit. My setup is a IDA-x100 headunit from alpine. (Pre-Amp is 2volts) My subwoofer is an 15" Q, and amp is a SAE-1200 Sundown. On my headunit, I heard that the subwoofer level should be set to full, 15. But I didn't know what to set the base level at, so I just set it to full, 8. Then I tuned it to 36volts using a dmm, (Thats what the tuning instruction sheet that came with the amp said to tune it too) It sounded good, but I feel with that much power, I should be getting it a little louder. So I put the bass to 0 on the headunit, but then I could turn the amps gain up to maxim…

Im down to 3 sub choices: -2 Rl-p 15s sealed w/700/800 watts to each -1 Rl-p 15 ported w/700/800 watts -1 Mag 15 ported w/around 1200 watts (assuming I can get one when Im ready to put my system together) Everything else is up to you guys; deck, comps, 6x9s, sub amp, ect So what would you do in my shoes? First time on this website and im glad i found it. Looks like there are lots of knowledgeable people here. I plan to do a total makeover on my stock system in my toyota 4runner. I have many ideas but nothing for sure. Here is what I have been planning: - 6.5" Focal 165 KP for the front - Alpine SPR-13C coaxials for the rear. - Rockford Fosgate T400-4 Amp - Either two JL Audio 12W6v2-D4 or one JL Audio 13W7 - I was thinking some sort of alpine or power acoustics amp to power the subs. I could desperately use some opinions on this setup. I listen to all types of music so i want decent sound quality. For the most part the subs are going to be at a decent lev…

I will be soon upgrading some components in my system. I have a new SAZ-1500d v.2 that will be paired up with an Xcon 12. I will also be getting a DC Power 180 amp alternator and will do the Big 3 also. I just have some questions. I haven't ever worked on a system dealing with this much power, and just want to make sure I have everything that I need. First, my current setup is a dual amp setup using Rockford 1000-1bd amp and alpine pdx-4.100. I used a 1 Farad capacitor (Ya, I know ) basically as a distrubution block for those amps. Electrical is stock. The capacitor will go away when I upgrade, so I have been looking at distribution blocks. I know I will need a…

I wonder if I am gonna use 2000 watts to run a Fi 18" BT, will I need a new HO alt, or new battery, after the fact of the Big 3. Also I want to ask, if I decide to just get rid of my rear 6x9's and just upgrade my front stage will I be able to just put all of the power from the head unit into 2 speakers so that I wont have to run another amp? I also wouldn't mind if someone could help me find a amp that could handle 2000 watts RMS at 1 ohm
