Maybe I'm just getting old and bitter. Maybe I'm maturing. Or maybe it's just my depression talking. But I'm almost tired of car audio anymore. Everything is a hassle. Any setup I'd actually want to have in my car would require a major modifications and about two months of installation. Running wire is a pain in the ass. Sound deadening can kiss my ass. Cramming yourself into positions and spaces you never thought possible to install anything is getting old. And you do all this work just to shove some overpriced audio equipment into an acoustic hell hole that will sound worse than even a mediocre bookshelf setup. My god...what the hell have I been thinking the p…

Ok, the wife wants to get a home theater in the near future. I used to work in a car audio shop that sold home audio as well, but I did not dabble in that at all. Right now what are some quality name brands that are not too much? Thankfully I can get quite a bit of different stuff near dealer cost so that helps. For reciever looking to stay below 750-800 MSRP, dvd player around 350-400 MSRP and who knows what on the speakers:) I am looking at a 5.1 reciever a 5 disk cd/dvd player the speakers to go with it At the moment I am looking at some Integra pieces and for spakers it is a toss up between Paradigm and Phase Tech with Phase Tech having the advantage right now. So for…

I am wanting to 'build' a center channel for my h/a system. I have a pair of CDT CL-5's 4ohm to use. I am thinking, wiring them to 8ohm and build a small cabinet for them. My question is on the crossover. Is there a xover kit, or a decent xover out there to buy, that I can mount inside the small cabinet, that can handle the 110w my Pioneer VSX puts out? Dont really know what my budget would be, but I surely dont wanna spend too much, or I'd just buy a speaker on ebay or something. I have looked at parts express, and see some 2-ways...I guess I could just use the high pass side of one of those? Or, could it be as simple as just getting some 'bass-blockers' for the…

  5. Ok, I don't know anything about home audio to start out with, so keep that in mind with your responses please. Ok I have 2 RE, RE 12's (DVC 4ohm) and a pair of CDT EF-61 6.5" components (05 model) I would like to make a dorm room setup, yes to make matters worse, the signal is coming out of a COMPUTER. I have a M audio 5.1 sound card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829121122) This is the card if you are wondering. Ok, I am wondering what type of enclosure to put (I am thinking only one of the RE's) in. I can build anthing out of wood that I need to, just don't have much experience about the finer aspects of box building, but a wood shop is noth…

Sup guys it's jfreezy. I was wondering if it's possible to bring your home audio into a car? I'd like to know if it is possible. I'm curious. My cousin has a home audio sub with built in amp in the box. It has the wall outlet plug. It can be a straight up sub and has terminals for speakers. Thing is like 250watts. Do you guys think it's possible to have this in a car with a dc to ac converter ? Like, top of the line dc to ac converter, one that can handle alot of wattage. If this is possible it would be pretty cool and cheap too lol. Just something my cousin and I are thinking about on this boring day.

Probably a stupid question but I'm wondering how I would go about hooking up my 15" SSD to my home stereo receiver. I think its a 100 watt per channel receiver @ 4 or 8 ohms. Just wondering if there is any way to do this or is it just stupid.

Ok so I hooked up some LED's in my sub box. These: http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/alm.htm (The 4 bulb ones) I hooked them up twice and they worked both times. One w/ the switch and one w/o the switch. I didn't change ANYTHING and the next day I go to hook them up after putting my sub in the box, and they don't work. Try everything, but they do not work at all. Even tried hooking them directly up to the battery (no bad connections). I think the lights are dead... I guess. My question is, did my problem come from not having the 1 amp fuse they recommend? I mean that would only blow if something bad happened, and I do not understand why the lights would die so easily…

  12. So my girlfriend's older sister (30?) hears the system I put in my girlfriends car and now what's me to do one for her. She drives a 2000 Toyota Sienna Minivan and she doesn't want me to replace the factory radio (she says she likes it) I told her yeah this is possible but honestly I'm not to sure what to do. Factory radios don't have RCAs do they? What must I do? Line out converter? How do those work? I'm thinkin simple 12" kenwood kfc. 400rms. And Ill her get a sundown audio sax 1200 at 4 ohm (380?rms) had to rep sundown But yeah what must I do to complete this project. There's no rush. I'm not in a hurry but really don't want to mess up on my gf's sister's ride. She…

i need some guidance here. I'm looking at a 2 way 10" mid bass with horn setup, the 10's I'm looking at seem to go up to around the 800-1200hz range so the horn needs to handle around 1k and up. i found some limited information from 07 on how a setup would work and from what i gather i want the horns positioned under the dash and firing parallel to the floor? with some processing i should be able to raise the sound stage up to about dash level? i also read that the width will more than likely be less than the distance between the a pillars if i don't add any other tweeters and that the horns would benefit from a 16khz and up super tweet? ive never done a horn…

I hate to ask this, but I think I may have been misinformed. What would be better/perform better, 2 10" subs ported with 1k watts each in the optimum enclosure or 1 15" sub ported in its optimum enclosure. I keep hearing conflicting stories and want to settle it once and for all. How would the two compare should be the real question......

A thiong on the head unit i kinda dont understand is when i am on EQ 2 if i remember correctly on the option for highs i can adjust from 1k, 8k, 10k, or 12k and another option i can choose is 1w, 2w, 1n, or 2n. I dont really know what that stuff means or is and under the mids it gives me the option of 200hz, 500hz. Cant remember what else from the top of my head, sorry. Anyone have experience with the new f6 and m6 amps from alpine? My mom just got a new accord coupe and the stock system absolutely blows. I want to put something small in since the majority of the time, i'm the one driving her around. My friend gets an accommodation discount for 85% from polk audio, so for subs i'm leaning toward 2 8" shallow mounts http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/mm/index.php?s=mm840 They only need .35 so box size should be very small(i'm hoping to get them put in a false floor) She does a lot of shopping so she needs as much trunk space as possible for groceries and other stuff. The pdx amps fit perfectly under the seats, but the price is kinda turn…

Im currently running 2 18s on about 2000w rms each. I know most would put both in the same box but i built separate boxes. the boxes are bolted together and then I have it in a wall config. According to Turros box calculator I have about 6cuft each and the port is tuned to about 32hz...what can I do to get louder if anything. Also I don't think the soundstream amps are putting out 2000w rms. would a more efficient amp help too. maybe an better amp with about the same rms power as the subs (1800w rms) not to risk blowing my subs.... advice please

I have a 2014 Ford F150 with sync and the 4.2 screen of which there are no options for aftermarket stuff anyways. I cant find a unit that will plug into the factory harness. I could do this and buy a headunit but I dont want too http://www.amazon.com/Metra-99-5830B-2013-Up-Factory-4-2-Inch/dp/B00FDW51C2 I was going to buy this untill I saw that is was only good untill 2012. And upon further reading there is nothing for the 2013 and 2014s http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=548&Cate.. So now I am not sure what to do to get my pre amps. I found this but this is for a new stereo, not pre amps.... http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120AXAFD…
