Alright I'm looking for advice on a sub box design for an Sa-12 that will give as much SPL as possible - without sounding terribly peaky. I'm willing to compromise on Spl for a frequency curve that would be acceptable for normal music listening- hip hop, rock, and country. sub is on JX 1000/1 - if you have questions about my vehicle and setup - look on my profile first under "About Me" and then ask me if the info you want is not there. Member Quentin Jarrell said "I would build the enclosure 1.75 cubic feet net tuned to 32 hertz. This will give you a 3db ripple (boost) at 35 herts and give you a F3 (-3db) at 26 hertz. This will give you the sense of exaggerated bass …

For my box for 2 12" xcons I want to something that is lighter than mdf. What are some other types of wood people use to build light weight boxes? I was looking at Baltic birch 13 ply that can be ordered from my local hardware store at my dads for around 95 shipped there. At the Home Depot by my house has birch (not baltic) 5 ply. How much better is 13 ply than the 5? I want to call the flint lumber yard and see how much their 13 ply BB is. Is there anything less expensive that people use but is also lighter than mdf?

New JBL W12GTi MKII waiting for a home. Need to do sealed as space is limited but plenty to work with for a proper enclosure. Looking for it to attack the lows and have a flat(ish) response. Not a ground pounder, rather a SQ build for this old man.

This is for a project I'm working on. I've only ever done a slot port once that didn't physically bend but that was on a really small enclosure. This port is physical length of 12.5" and 6" width. Is this acoustic length right? I'm used to a slot port having a second leg and just adding 1/2 of the port width. For this enclosure, if the acoustic length is right on the pic then it will make nearly a 10hz change in tuning. Kind of a big deal. Thanks!

Right now my enclosure is 6.5 cubes tuned about 33. Port area is only about 82 . . Was wondering what kind of changes you think I could see by lowering the volume more to increase the port area to cubic foot ratio

My question is in regards to enclosures. Mostly the relationship between net volume and port area. From the little research I've done. High port area combined with small volume net will yield a very narrow bandwith but with most SPL.But, if you increase net volume, combined with high port area, you will increase SPL while sustaining a wide bandwith. So what I am thinking is. As an example. If I only had 1000watts to a 3000watt subwoofer, 180cuin would be too much port area because I do not have adequate power to displace as much air as I would if I had 5000 watts. Is this way of thinking correct? Like, hard to convey what I'm thinking via typing. But, I guess what I'm s…

Is it possible to to a T shaped slot port? I'm designing a box right now with 2 woofers and no divider. I was planning on making a L shaped slot port off to one side of the woofers, but got to thinking about putting the port in between the woofers and making it shaped like a T without a divider in the middle. No clue if this would work or if the velocity of the air coming from each side would create turbulence where they meet and make the port less efficient. I would put a divider in but I'm limited on space and a divider makes the port length longer per side and cause me to increase the size of the box to stay optimum and the dimensions are larger than I have to work wit…

I need a ported sub box to around 33 Hz for an xcon .. I have 12.5 H x 32 W x 14 D to work with. I have a metal brace on the floor of my car that I need to work around. I've hit up ram design and he said he was to busy at the time , Dave the box guy never replied back .. and all the audio shop stores I go to say they can build it but the lowest tuning they can do is 60 Hz wich is bullshit. any help is greatly appreciated

Lately I've been pretty frustrated with my sub stage in my vehicle. I am not any kind of box designer but I can and have built my own from others blueprints. I've always helped my friend with systems in his 08 Grand Prix. I have installed a lot of my enclosures in his vehicle with good results. Then I put the same boxes in my vehicle and get something totally different. Every vehicle is different I understand this. We both have trunk cars. Mine is an 11' Malibu. He clearly has a slightly bigger trunk than I do. What I'm looking for is a better low end. The boxes I've used have all been tuned around 30-32ish. What do I need to take into consideration to build a box to ex…

Hope this image works. Its a very rough sketch of what I'm planning. It's roughly 2.5 cu. ft after port and before sub volume is removed. Subs firing down, port forward. This is roughly the outside dimensions I have to work with and am open to other sub/port configurations if they make sense. Subs will likely be SA-10s or maybe Gcon 10s. Torres calculator showed 32 hz tuning frequency, but I'm confused why it asks for a port diameter and port dimensions for a slot port?? Any opinions?

I got a cut sheet from skar audio, and i want to know others opinions on it. Ive tried to draw it up on paper to visualize, and ive done some calculations to help someone who knows how to use the info. Its for a friend so i don't wanna waste his cash on a shit design. Ok so he has a 97 Jeep grand cherokee. 90a alternator, I did the big 3 for him in some 4 gauge stinger pro i had laying around, and he had already bought a Rockford amp kit 4 gauge also...pretty nice wire. Ok the max dims are 36" wide, 36"deep and 30"tall, this leaves plenty space for the port to breath either up our back..The subwoofer is a skar audio ivx15 V1. Its a d2 coil. Here's spec off woofersetc.co…

So ive currently have got an Fi SSD15 in a 3 cube box, ported tuned around 31 hz. it murders the lows, and theres no port noise that i can tell despite it having only about 11 sq inches per cubic foot of box volume. the problem is, there seems to be cancellation in the 50-65hz range. it hits great below that and even gets louder over 65hz until it starts rolling off around 85hz. this is in the trunk of a 2001 BMW 525i. i have the sub fired up with the port back. im very frustrated with this lack of a crucial sub bass octave. i'm about to build a new box, in the neighborhood of 4 cubes with a port tuned around 35 hz, with at least 14 sq inches per cubic foot of interna…

Ok I have a few questions about the closure that I am designing. First is this a slot port design? Second do i need to throw some bracing in the inclosure or is it good as is? Third Have used various calculators to calculate port size for tuning is this correct? The box I have designed is 20"L x 48"W x 15"H puting the box at 5.3 without bracing. The subs will be facing the rear door and the port will be facing up on the back wall. Port will be 4"H x 20"W x 22.21"L. The port Vol is 1776.8 the port area is 80" square. Any and all help with this will be great Vehicle : 1999 Chevy Tahoe Location in the vehicle: Rear Space available (Length x Width x Height): (x)…

I have been looking in to these two subs for months now reading everything I can. I am still stuck maybe some smart people can help me out. ok I am looking for high quality, clarity, accurate, punchy sound not so much loud. mainly SQ. I had two Pioneer TS-W309D4 in a sealed box at 1.15 Cu. Ft. Air Space per sub. powered by a Pyle PLA2678. I liked this sound it sounded nice punchy. but I wanted something better so this guy told me about FI and Audio Pipe amps . so then I got a FI SSD 12 with only interior leads. powered by a AUDIOPIPE APSM-1500 and in 2cu ft. of air space. tuned to 32hz ported. it got so loud my nose flap would shake and it was awesome and still …

My 15 will be here today, and ive spent the last week drawing up designs but before i commit to any, does anyone have a more accurate box calc than Re.com? My friend used it and his came out nearly a 1/4 cubic foot bigger and tuned like 4~hz higher than what re box calc told him.

Doing my sq setup, has 2 way components 125 watts each side. Looking for a good sq sub that goes loud but good quality under $300 I will upgrade later to something higher end. So far looking at the image dynamics idq10v3. (500 watts rms) also would a sub 500 watts rms overpower the front stage? From the comps? cheers any reviews on the idq would be good too

Hello world, after much research and consideration I have finally decided to become an SSA consumer, I plan on buying a DCON series 15in to run with an Alpine MRP-M650. I plan on designing and building a custom ported enclosure for the sub, and this yields the question, what is the recommended volume for said enclosure? I know the SSA Store gives recommended box dimensions, and I have seen them for the DCON 12, but the fields are empty for the 15 D: Any help is appreciated. My guess would be somewhere around 3-4 cubes? But it's my first build so I feel like I need some reassurance. Thanks
