What up SSA. Thinking about ordering a single Gcon 12" and running it ported but just want to make sure my calculations are accurate before doing so. Volume (Net): 1.81^3 ft Dimensions: 13.5" (H) x 30" (W) x 12" (D) Tuning: 32.75Hz Number/Size Port: 1 x 4" Flared Port Length: 15.5" Port Area (per cube): 6.94"^2 Vent Mach: 0.11 Is there enough Port Area? Is this a good size/volume for a 12" Gcon? Also, I plan on placing the woofer and port on the same baffle, on opposite ends. This would require a 90 degree elbow bend for the port but there should be over 7" of space between the end of the port and the subwoofer so I don't think that will be a problem.

Hey guys, I have been modeling different alignments for my Dayton RSS265-4 HO woofers. I like the look of 1.2-1.4 cu.ft after displacement for both of the tens, tuned around 30 hz. My question to you guys is how much port area I should shoot for? Would two 3" aeros be adequate? According to the modeling program, I would exceed 25m/s vent velocity using 2 3" aeros, but not by much. This install isn't meant to shatter spl records and each woofer will probably never see more than 300 watts, so taking this into account I don't really think I need such large port area. Looking for suggestions, Thanks

  3. I've used the original without problems for quite some time. I upgraded to the pro version which has a lot more features but never could get it to work. It would always crash or show errors when I loaded the T/S parameters. Fits of rage and nearly throwing my laptop under a moving bus. Andrew Vaserfirer from HTS figured out the solution. After doing it exactly how he told me it works perfect! I wanted to pass along the info since I know several people have had issues. Again, this is all compliments of Andrew. Ensure that 'Auto calculate unknowns' is on even if you have all the data. This is recommended because WinISD Pro can be very picky about the data and if it is e…

  4. Well looks like I will end up with 17.87cu before bracing and sub displacement. I really want to end up with 17cu total after. This is for 2 18in FI Q's on 3k watts. Box dimensions will be Outside 35h x 54w x 27d.... All sides double 3/4 MDF except front baffle will be triple. (may use some Birch for weight reduction) Usable inside demensions are 32h x 41.5w x 23.25d = 17.87cu Port is 8 x 32 = 256in total Sub displacement = .24... but I will be triple baffled so what maybe .22 or less?? Total of six 2in hardwood dowels for bracing =.35 2in wide 45's in corners =.10 So this leaves me with 17cuft tuned at 30hz after all is said and done. I may glass the inside as well? what…

Would there be any negative effects from running all-thread though the back of my box directly into the cab of my truck. The back wall of my truck is already threaded and I could strongly secure the box this way. But Im wondering over time will I get leaks or put to much stress on the MDF. I will be using 1in MDF more than likely. I would seal it and also use a 1/2in rubber mat between the box and back wall and floor to help with sound deadening and vibration. I also will be using the back seat metal bracket to mount the floor to, I can also run allthread through box and floor threaded directly to the metal brackets. This will be a semi wall and will probably make beauty …

  6. Hey, I am looking to build an enclosure for one Sundown E-12 in the near future. I plan on putting it into a 2.5 cubic foot enclosure. (PWK recommends an enclosure for the E-12 of at least 60L (~2.1 cu ft) for a more linear response) I also want to use a 4" aeroport (precision port) 10.25 inches long for a tuning of 32 Hz. I think my question is, would it be alright to tune this box to 30 Hz? All it would require is 12 of port length compared to the ten and a quarter. I'm just slightly confused because I have heard not to tune too far below a subs res. freq. because it might cause roll-off right at the tuning. If it sounds stupid, that's because I read it once somewhere o…

My dad has an E8v1 in his van in an old box that was from a component set, he needs a new box. I have leftover wood from my box so I thought I might as well use it! Using sundowns recommendations I figured .6 cubes with a 7x2 PVC aero port. My question is how much port area should it have and what frequency to tune to. He listens to rock music, should I even port it?

Basically those bars connect the hinges from the left and right of trunk lid. They are bent in that way to accommodate the 6x9 speakers. I am going to remove the speakers this week. Could I replace them with some straight bar???

I have an 18" zcon on order so I'm starting the build here in the next couple days. I have two designs worked up and just curios what every one thinks would be better, more so concerning port area. I plan on using either a 10" or 12" round port. Box will be sub up port back in an 06 xterra. First design: 6.93 cubic ft. after all displacements with A 10" port tuned @ 37 hz port area = 11.38 per cube Second design: 7.4 cubic ft. after all displacements with a 12" port tuned @ 37 hz port area = 15.28 per cube Just curious what everyones thoughts are, thanks

  11. I am new to the forum and I am trying to get help on something I just dont seem to be understanding. I have a Ford Explorer and I have two Lethal Injection 12's (4ohm/dvc model). I wanted to see how they sounded sealed, since I couldn't find anyone on the web. Only people asking has anyone done it. They are clean, crisp and loud being pushed with 800watts each. The sound quality is phenominal whether soft, medium or hard hitting. If I open the front doors only, its like a huge ported box turned up using old school SPL comp cd's. The pressure level is unreal for a sealed enclosure. I cannot say enough good things about these speakers. Best investment I made for not a lot …

I have talked with rob and rusty from dc on everything to do with my upcoming design for summer 2012. I am going to go with 2 xl 12s on two SAZ-3500Ds, backed up with juicebox batteries and a 220amp excessive amperage alt. The box will be a little smaller than recommended seeing as DCs love smaller boxes when they are overpowered. Now my question for everybody that I cant seem to get a hold of is port area, would I be better off giving it a little more (Kerf port btw) space (say 18-20sqin per cuft) or the "normal" range of 15-18sqiin per cuft? My goal is to get decent numbers in the low 30s. I do not have the depth either for aeroports. A 5" aero though would be 21 sqin p…

In the back of my escape there is little room, especially with the rear strut towers protruding about four inches out each side. The space I have to work with is as follows: 40" wide, 24" deep on top, 32" deep on the bottom. which comes out to be about 10 cubes. The height is what can move, although 18" is ideal. I'd like to keep the box rectangular but if I have to make the back slanted for space that's fine. I want the box to be ported but I have very little room. What type of port should I use and will this work for two 18's? Brand is yet to be determined, I'm still in the planning stage.

I bought a x12 and have made the reccomended ported box for it. I def sounds amazing when the windows are down in my truck it gets really low. But its not really as loud as i want and most of my music just dosnt go that low.. The other thing is i have a pair of harrison soundlab external subsonic filters... And a pair of right angle adapters from radioshack.. Could these be lowering the signal to the amp and decreasing my out put? Any help would be great. Iv heard you can fill the box a little to raise the tuning frequency.. Idk the sf are at 30hzbtw

I was looking around at how I could go about finishing my box. Now this is a 10 cube box, but fully square. Since its MDF I would think it would be hard to paint. So I was searching and came up with four things I may be able to do. Spray/Roll on Bedliner(not sure if it's the same as paint), Carpet Wrap, Fur wrap, or Vinyl Wrap(hardest) Now I have no upholstery expirence so wrapping my be a task, but it looks good when done right that's why it is a option.

I'm looking into aero porting my box for my 15 so I can save room instead of building the box around the port. According to the Torres Box Calc 20x20x20 gives me a gross of 3.66ft3. .2ft3 sub displacement, double baffle, .01ft3 bracing (estimated) and a single 6" aero from psp, puts me at almost exactly 3 cubes at 38hz. The sub is an AA Havoc 15 on a MB Quart discus 1500.1. So now my question is, I know 12-16in2 generic rule, but the calc says my suggested port area is 28-40in2, and the 6in give me 28.26in2. Is that enough port area using an aero? its only 9.14in2 per foot. sub would face back and the port up, or sub up port back either way. I'm trying to stay within 35-3…

So, my daughters MECA Power Wheel got a broken port... So I decided to rebuild... The small sealed enclosure was practically free airing so I was looking at making a loading wall, but I don't know how to tune for just a loading wall which got confusing because it started coming out at a 6th order... So I started looking into 4th order, sealed one half, ported other. plenty of loading surface, as well as the output for the port to under the dash for the kick score. I have it as .35ft^3 sealed side (its a single 8 sealed enclosure is .25-.5ft^3) and ported side .68ft^3 with 2 2" aeros 10" long at 45hz. still fits on the back of the power wheels, and tuning a little higher f…

  21. I currently have 2 SA10's in 2.5 cu ft net tuned to 32hz. They are running at 1 ohm off an SAZ-1500D. I'm pretty happy with them, but the box is the wrong shape to fit where I want it. This is going in an 03 Lincoln town car on the hump behind the seat on top of the gas tank. I have 41" of width, 18" of depth, and 10.5" of height. So I should be able to get 2.5 cu ft net, but just barely. One reason I'm considering the skar subs is that I get a free box. I can get 4-8's in a custom ported box shipped to me for $500. Or 2-10's for $380. I've been thinking about 8's since the sa8 came out. And the box would look nicer for 8's since I could do a flush mount baffle. I don't h…

I have an old lanzar max12 subwoofer. My friend wants to get a system for his car but really dosnt have much money for one. If i put the max12 in a custom made t-line box that i made and gave it like 200rms would it be decently loud? Or is there something else i should do to get the most out of it? Im being paid to install everything and make his box so i do want it to turn out very nicely if possible. What does it usualy cost to wire for an amp and just put the box and sub in? (iv done all my own stereo on my own so idk how much to charge him...)

Just pondering ideas and wondered why I had never seen anyone use polyurethane on boxes or anything else car audio related? Seems to me like it would be a great finish on the outside, as well as good sealant for the insides of the box. Polyurethane has a very smooth glossy finish which I would think would be great for ports and such.. Which leads me to wonder why it hasn't been used in place of fiberglass in some scenarios. Does anyone have any experience with polyurethane or know why it's never used? One idea I had, was covering an enclosure with playing cards (or anything really) with adhesive spray, then going over the cards with a few layers of poly to give it a swee…
