Well, I built the box as recommended by Bromo but somewhere when I was taking measurements I messed up. It is currently 35Wx15Hx19D. If I take 1.5-2 in. off the width and extend the depth? Would I still get the sound as before?

  4. Finally designed my first enclosure. It is for a 12" GCON. ~2.5 ft^3 tuned to ~33hz. Does my math/design look correct? Does this look like a design that will translate into the real world effectively? It will be going in the trunk of a 1996 Honda Accord sedan powered by an AQ1200. This is what I came up with to fit my trunk space needs. Any critiques and opinions are welcome and greatly appreciated.

I have been messing around with SketchUp to design a box for my 15 Xcon, I have only built a few boxes all of which I used the re box calculator so this is new for me. I'm looking for any suggestions or recommended changes to what i have so far, as far as port area and tuning frequency. This is based off an estimated max size 34"w 17" h 18" d. (I'm going to make a test cardboard box to see the largest size that can fit through the opening)

I'm thinking about making a box for some older Rockford RFP1408's that I have, they are 200 watts RMS each, the only wood I have is a 30"x60" sheet of 1" MDF and another smaller sheet of 3/4" MDF. So, I'm gonna use the 1" sheet for most of the box, and the small 3/4" sheet for the front. 1.25 Cubic feet 1" x 11" port tuned to 33hz What do you think?

I'm working on a box design for a single ported SA-12. I looked at the Sketchup design they have for a 1-12 ported, and I came up with this for my vehicle. It seems pretty dead on. Is the 13.5" x 2" port too narrow? The one in the Sketchup is 14" x 2" so I figure it's good. Thanks.

Okay, so I have very little room to work with, and needed help on how to port a wedge box. I have 2 designs I can use for the port, both are using the same box. Width: 15 inches. Height 1 (front): 12.5 Inches Height 2 (back) 7 inches Depth: 18 inches total volume (using 3/4 inch think wood) = 1.06348 cubic feet. So one idea is to place the port under the sub which is the eaisiest. 13.5 inches long, half an inch tall, 14.5 inches of port space (32hz tuned) ^ I need to know if theres anything wrong with this idea? The 2nd idea, which is more complicated, is placing the port on the side of the box. I have no idea how to calculate such a slant. Would the 1st option be …

Lets just say I'm building a ported box. And the port is 6"x13" (Round port) How far away should the end of the port be from any wall? For example, the port is on the front wall. How far does the end inside the box need to be from the back wall? I think i remember it being 1/2 the diameter, but i could be wrong. If anyone could help shed some light on this one, it would be a great help.

I have made a ported box just over 1 cubic foot. This is for a 400rms, 10 inch sub. For a 2.5 inch wide pipe, I need 11 inches long for a 32 hz tune. IS IT OKAY TO USE 2 PORTS? and what type of pipe do I get? Can I just run to home depot, find a strong looking 2.5inch wide pipe, and go from there? and are 2 ports okay to use, even if there the same length?

I have 4 DP21"s and 2 SAZ-3000d's that I'm stuffing in my 03 Expedition. I'm looking for ways to get enough port area with the subs...The box will be at the B-pillars sealed from the back. It will be about 40 cubes tuned to between 30 and 32 hz. So I'm wandering if I could port through the diamond itself without any problems. Or would this be bad?...Any other ways to get sufficient port area would be appreciated also.

I need feedback and SIN just isn't moving fast enough for me... Da Goods... Taped off and ready for glass... Mold and heavily modified door... The baffle design... I really would appreciate feed back, these will be ported to roughly 60 hz, cause that's where I was told to cut it off... Feed back on the baffle is what I'd like the most as that is where I'm at ATM... Time to go pick up some dowel rods...

I'm thinking about doing something that I've only see Steve Meade do, on a much larger scale. I want to build a small setup to just listen to music in the garage with. I have a cheap set of Pyle component speakers that I can use.. I'd like to build a ported enclosure like this. They would be ran off of a really old 100 watt 2 channel Pyramid amplifier. I do not plan on adding a subwoofer to the setup, just this set of components. Since this old amp doesn't have any sort of SSF, HPF, or LPF, it's playing a full range. I will have a crossover for the tweeter, but the woofer will be seeing even subsonic frequencies. I'm thinking about using 1" PVC for a port tuned around 40h…

This is going to sound awfully newbish, because...well it is. I see all over this forum and various others about what to tune a ported box to. Well it dawned on me a while back, what does it mean if you tune a box to, ah lets say 32 hz? Does that mean that the subwoofer can only play notes above this frequency, or what? Also what particular specification(s) point you in the right direction on what to tune the enclosure to (besides the obvious manufacturer's recommended boxes, as I see a lot of people that don't necessarily stick to what the company provides.) Please go easy on me, as I am really clueless when it comes to ported enclosures (as I personally like sealed …

  18. Vechicle is BMW 7 series... The cabin is so well sealed, that not much bass has been entering the cabin of the vehicle. It's stuck in the trunk. I'm thinking about doing a new ported enclosure that would face the rear seats, and is completely sealed from the trunk. Hopefully, it will force more air through the armrest ski-pass...I'm trying this because I don't really want to slice up the rear deck. So the question is, should I leave a few inches between the box and the rear seats or build the port so that it extends into the ski-pass and seal that as well? The goal being maximum output, of course... Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have an old sub box that came with an RE SX15 I bought used. It is 3.1 cu ft net before driver displacement. It has 2-3" aero ports in it. 9" long. I used it before with the sx15 wired at 2 ohms on my saz-1500d. I never heard any port noise, but it didn't sound great. I later built a 4.25 net cu ft box for the RE tuned to 30 hz. It sounds great. Well I think I have a buyer for the RE and was wondering if an SA15 would work in the old box. It's about the right volume and tuning would be right about 35hz(recommended) but it's seriously low on port volume. I was also thinking I could put a third port in it for burps and bump tuning from 35-45hz. Not to mention increasing …

  21. Hey, I am looking to build an enclosure for one Sundown E-12 in the near future. I plan on putting it into a 2.5 cubic foot enclosure. (PWK recommends an enclosure for the E-12 of at least 60L (~2.1 cu ft) for a more linear response) I also want to use a 4" aeroport (precision port) 10.25 inches long for a tuning of 32 Hz. I think my question is, would it be alright to tune this box to 30 Hz? All it would require is 12 of port length compared to the ten and a quarter. I'm just slightly confused because I have heard not to tune too far below a subs res. freq. because it might cause roll-off right at the tuning. If it sounds stupid, that's because I read it once somewhere o…

  22. Could I get the same output if I use aero tubes on my box instead of a regular port? I want to get a 9cuft box for the new 15" BLs. Would the aero tubes make the gross area of the box smaller because I want the box as small as possible but still have about 9cuft of area after displacements?

Which enclosure do you prefer and give your reasons for sayin so. Just trying to see who likes what type of enclosure the best. Me i am kinda in between you can get a good all around sound with sealed, given enough power to run push it. I used to use a lot of sealed boxes because I really didnt have the room for ported boxes given the subs i was usin. Now I have switched to ported since subs now work in ported enclosures the size of what the old sealed subs used to work in. Also which one do you think handles ungodly amounts of power better.

This kind of goes with myths and lies. Here I am trying to figure out why some insist on a port box for spl? Is there a specific reason why? Some pros and Cons I know of for ported verses transmission lines. Ported: High spl output= pro High x max =con Loud bass output. Pro Box size= pro or con Transmission lines: Loud bass output below 70 hertz. = pro Reduced x-max =pro High spl output the same as a ported. = pro Large boxes =con The reason I see the transmission line is better is x max is reduced so when you add 8,000 watt burp to a 2,500 watts rms sub the tinsel leads do not come apart as easily. The t lines can be tuned the same as a ported for high outp…
