Picked up the proto from Jacob about a month ago. Finished up the box last night and wanted to share some pics. specs: 1.85 cf3 after displacements 3/4 birch that isn't really 3/4 6" aero 31hz tune sub: port: I flush mounted it then cut another plate to fit on the inside. That gave me more surface to epoxy and helped seal up the giant hole on the backside. Painted it several coats of hammered black. Used 1" dowel rods for bracing and support of the port.

Currently running a Exodus Shiva X2 SVC 4ohm in a 1.5cuft sealed box. Its an awesome subwoofer BUT, I was wanting to add another one but since they are no longer available thats not possible. So i'm looking to upgrade for more output and perhaps deeper extension. This brings me to the SD X series. Anyone have any opinions on whether the X 15 would be a worthwhile upgrade? My amp right now is a Soundstream PCX 1500D, specs claim 800watts 4ohm, 1100watts 2ohm and 1500watts 1ohm. I would get the X 15 D2 so I can wire it to 1ohm and would like to go sealed. No crazy about ported in the car. Fronts are Hertz HSK 165 XL so midbass and output are no problem. I kno…

The old thread was getting, well, old... so it's time for a new one. The build house that I was working with on the X12 for the previous three iterations of prototypes was unable to produce my design to spec properly... so production has been moved elsewhere. Since I was already behind I decided to implement all of my other ideas for improving the design now rather than for later versions. 1) Changed to dual, mirrored progressive spiders -- they were linear units before 2) Optimizing top plate to coil height ratios for better BL linearity -- top plate is now 16mm tall 3) Optimized magnet ID and height to avoid wasting magnet mass (not making it heavier than necessary) 4) …

Looking for suggestions on which sub would be better suited for my situation. I have right at 6 cubes after all displacements, figuring on 82 square inches of port tuned to 33hz. Power will not be an issue with either sub, current plan is one or two PPI Black Ice 1800s. Electrical will consist of 270A alt and 2 D3100s. Going into a very well deadened 99 Ram Quad Cab. The reason for the limited space is I'm attempting to keep a small seat area on either side and run the enclosure centered on the back seat, seat bottom to ceiling. With that setup the only wat I can realistically pull it off is to have both sub and port forward. I figure I'll center the sub between the front…

OKay here is what is up! I just installed my 2-12inch NS v1, and powering them is 2-saz2500 all wired to 2ohms! (subs wire to 4ohms and then wired in parallel to each other to drop the load to 2ohms) now with my last setup it was a single 15inch NS v1 d1 wired in parellel to get a 2ohm load! this isn't the last box but close enough to what it all looked like. now back ground, with the single 15inch first I set it via dmm, then used and oscope to set my gains and then clamped it and realized that i was making about 2400rms on a 6~ohm load on a burp. which was good enough to get me a 145.5 db on burp out of the old setup. now here is the issue with the 2-12s installed a…

Sometimes it pays to have an insomniac working for you huh? Christy will carpet it in the morning, and I'll see about possibly bringing it up to you. Paint was still a little wet, so it looks splotchy, but it's not like that in person.

  11. ... Neo-8 -- here is the other design I'm trying... more traditional over-hung design. Will be testing head to head with the XBL^2 unit when it is ready. Sneak peak as this prototype has been fully assembled at the factory : I would use a different frame if this were to be produced as the spider on this sample is not going to handle the throw I want.

Anybody have any experience with the Z15 sub? Thinking about pairing one 15 with an SAE-1200D or SAZ-1000D. Also, what would be better, the SAZ or SAE? The Nightshade might be a little overkill for my tastes so I figured the Z15 might be just what I was looking for. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I am building some for a foreign market and they turned out pretty well. Before I start offering them in mass I am making a different spider but these worked out very well. The new spider will sit down on the 7" landing to give more cone to spider clearance. I'll put up some specs before I ship them off.

Got a pair built to ship to a customer... Customized with double leads, 3 spiders, and a Nightshade cone. Specs as follows with a few minutes break-in : RE: 1.84 ohms FS: 37.87 Hz Qes: 0.531 Qms: 7.56 Qts: 0.496 Le: 1.30 mH Vas: 45.9 L BL: 16.73 NA Cms: 52.21 uM/N Mms: 338 grams Sens: 88.56 1w/1m NS cone + Double leads add about 80 grams MMS compared to the Z v.2 cone with single leads. The added mass got the Fs down and Qts up a bit -- which will be quite suitable for the 4th order band-pass the customer wants to use.

Built one yesterday almost full production specifications -- only difference to production is a small change to the coil (those coils are not in stock yet -- they are the last part I need). The Z v.2 woofers are back in stock. There have been a few revisions made : 1) The top shorting ring has been removed -- but the internal ring was upgraded from aluminum to copper. 2) The coil windings changed from 4-layer flat aluminum to 4-layer round bifilar copper -- this lowers Fs a bit and I tested no loss in efficiency at lower power and a small gain at high power. Coil is a bit more robust than the aluminum was as well due to additional mass. Copper also has a lower thermal expansion to accommodate the Z v.2 tight gap. All in all it makes the driver more tolerant to abuse. --- We still have the 4-layer flat aluminum coils to match other subs on re-cones... also, t…

Due to shipping delays the Z v.2 ETA is being pushed back to January 2010. I was hoping to start shipping them before the end of the year but that will not happen. There will not be a pre-sale but I will offer introductory pricing on them when all my parts are in.

Hey guys -- our Z v.2 line is now SOLD OUT. If you have a super emergency need for one I can dig up some used motors from our legendary "sea of woofers" in the top secret back room... but as for new that is it for them! People that have *already* ordered them or already asked me should be good but no new sales will be available unless a used motor will do. Z v.3 motors are coming in with the next container of SA woofers and SD-2 woofers in ~90 days... we will be doing final assembly here in Troutman, NC for at least several hundred units. I am pleased with the legacy of the Z v.2 line -- we actually sold more of these than the Nightshade v.1 line (seems like everyon…

Parts are all here... as we start making them we'll get more finalized specs on each size and coil configuration. * All of the cones together * 18" Cone * 15" Cone * 12" Cone (woops... got it dirty) * 10" Cone All cones have a stitched surround. ----- * Upper left (18" - 9 1/4") -- Upper right (15" - 8 3/8") -- Bottom (10/12" - 7") Z v.3 15s and 18s will run the long coils (60-65mm) -- we'll have shorter ones for the 10s and 12s (50mm) to keep mass balance in check (will risk some ticking with the longer coils). All of them are beefy 8-layer aluminum USA made voice coils on black aluminum formers. * 15 / 18" coil * 10 / 12" coil (NS v.1 equivalent coil)

Z v.3 Line SOLD OUT We have more motors due end of May to first of June. Demand for these has really been incredible... by far our best selling large subwoofer in company history. I have several production runs of motors in place to attempt to keep up with demand so hopefully we don't run out again for some time.

Greetings currently own a z v.4 10. It is a 97 Tahoe being ran off of a saz 2500 v.2. It would be more cost effective to re-cone it to a 18". it would cost little over twice as much two add another z v.4 10, but just because it cost less doesn't mean it will sound better. basically I'm after more output. better low end extension. I had it in my cutlass and it sounded great but in the Tahoe I have a lot more cabin space. any suggestions between the two? thanks in advance for the input.
