The 10" is done and drying; should be able to play tomorrow. I'll be a tad more careful this time *laughs* Of course I should be safe with the 8 3/8" spider vs. the 9 1/4" on the 12" model as I shouldn't be able to reach quite the level of throw! This is the first 10" woofer with 3" coil that I've built that I didn't hate every second of... gives me a good feeling and I cannot wait to test it ! * Left to right : Z v.4 10 / Z v.4 12 / Z v.3 12

The old thread was getting, well, old... so it's time for a new one. The build house that I was working with on the X12 for the previous three iterations of prototypes was unable to produce my design to spec properly... so production has been moved elsewhere. Since I was already behind I decided to implement all of my other ideas for improving the design now rather than for later versions. 1) Changed to dual, mirrored progressive spiders -- they were linear units before 2) Optimizing top plate to coil height ratios for better BL linearity -- top plate is now 16mm tall 3) Optimized magnet ID and height to avoid wasting magnet mass (not making it heavier than necessary) 4) …

Well, my Nightshade bit the dust about a week or two ago, and I'm just now getting around to posting it. I'm not 100% positive about what happened but I want to run it past you guys first and see if I need a Recone or a new sub. I was pounding like I usually do on my way to work, and it was incredibly loud. As in louder than I've ever heard it before. Anyways, in my 15 minute commute to work, I had pulled up in the parking lot and just as I did, the sub stopped working. Wtf...? I wondered to myself and probably said aloud. I pulled into a parking space, and popped the hatch and there was smoke rolling out of the port. I quickly managed to lift my box and get the sub out.…

I have two SA12s on a memphis amp giving 1500 watts, Subs are dual 2 ohms and their wired to 2 ohms at the amp. During low notes I hear a pop from the woofers, only one woofer, never two pops. Just one pop every second or so during low bass. Pulled the subs out and nothing looks wrong. Felt the cone after some long play time and it's cold so it's not thermal. No distortion at all either. So is the sub bottoming out?

Looking for some info. I'm running 2 CDT QES1020 10"s in a ported box with a SAX-1200d. When I connect 1 sub the thing freaking shakes. It vibrates my mirrors and just sounds amazing. However when I connect the 2nd one, the audio tapers off, it sounds scratchy and doesn't hit as hard. It also seems like its making a ton of port noise and less audio. I checked all my connections and my +'s and -'s are connected per the manual. I'm not bridging or anything, just + to + and - to - for the 2 speakers on the 2 outputs. Any advice on something else to check? I've also swapped speakers and output ports. Anytime I have 1 connected no matter the output port, or the sub it…

So... ill be buying an amp tomorrow... and I found a used saz2000d for $400 shipped. Heard absolutely nothing but good about Sundown. I also found a new Soundstream DTR1.2200d for $260 shipped. (Woofersetc dot com) I've searched and haven't found any complaints on them. I was just wondering what us the upside of buying the sundown for about $140 more with 200 less watts. Or the the downside of buying the Soundstream. This will be powering a XCON 18" D2.

did some testing with an sa-12 yesterday, and i was amazed at what these little "entry level" subs can do. on with the testing: Car: 1997 Chevy Cavalier z24 w/sunroof Electrical: stock alt, yellow top up front, kinetic 1800 in back, 2/0 welding cable all around Amplifier: One SAZ-3000 Enclosure: 2.7 cube box sub back 6inch aero port firing toward driver side wheel well. Subwoofer: One Sa-12 all testing done using the midwest spl format, meter on dash with window open, my car typically loses.4-.5 by sealing it up. also the subwoofer was brand new out of the box when i started these tests, i did the tests in the order they are listed. back to back about 2 minutes between…

Sorry for the multiple post. I wanted this in the Sundown section, so reposted here... My son really likes the SA8s and wants to upgrade his stereo system. Can someone help with a box design? I assume someone has done this already and has posted a box design of what they did. I've been looking but have found some crazy installs. We only want to do two subs. Ported since that is the recommended design. If going sealed does not hurt that much, then that would be an easier build. This will be our first sub project together so want to do something on the easy side. We built a pirogue so have skills. BTW, he will be powering these with a Cadence ZRS-2002 going with 2 channel,…

What box type would you guys reccomend for 2 SA-12's on a Saz-2500D? I have a normal ported box around 3.5 cubes tuned to 35 hz that i'm gonna put them in when I get them but would like to start designing a new box so I can get it designed and built as soon as possible. Not looking for numbers just a loud and low daily driver. I know 4th orders are really efficient if designed right. But what about 6th orders and I don't know much about horns but would love to learn. I have up to 6 cubic feet to play with, Extended cab Ford Ranger no wall so its a wide and tall box not very deep Short version 4th Order Bandpass 6th Order bandpass T-line Horn Which is best for a loud dail…

Original Discussion Thread I expect to have this in by first of February if not sooner (working on better ETA). well went to a show today, and somehow only managed a 145.3 @ 36hz with the equipment in sig. I'm thinking it's in the enclosure. Can someone throw me some dimensions for an optimal box for these? I have plenty of room to work with so thats not an issue. I've seen posts where people are doin a 150+ with these subs and less power and still listening to it daily so i now a big number is in them, just need a different box.

Attention Team Sundown and other customers looking at 3000s. At the current rate of sales the 3000Ds will run out before I get more in stock. This year has shown incredible sales for the 3000Ds, well beyond my predicted averages. Just a heads up so you can make your plans accordingly if you NEED some before they are out. I estimate that they will be out of stock for 4-6 weeks once they are out. As an alternative there will be plenty of 1500Ds in stock during that time.

Hello. I've got a ported 5.3 cu.ft box and 1.6k amp (my box is 1.1 cf ports and 4.2 cf for the sub) which sub would be better with my setup? the Z v3 15" or the 18" ? also I've got XS power D2400 battery. I cant get a bigger box, thats the maximum box size that I can have. is my mono will be enough for that sub? (can't change it, I'm out of budget) is that box is enough for the 18" ? if not, is it good for the 15" or is it too big? * car details: I have a Fiat Grande Punto (small car. hatchback) and my box is slanted front if it matters. Amp: Celestra FA1.6k Thanks, Udi.

Here is the deal... 5000-watt amplifier (SAZ-5000D) Factory rated specifications: ~4000 @ 13 volts ~5000 @ 14 volts ~7000 @ 18 volts As with the 3000D these are quite likely conservative at the lower voltages as we have found that the 3000Ds produce 3000 watts down to very low voltages. --- $1200 pre-order pricing ($2199 MSRP) 6 month standard warranty * 2 year discounted replacement warranty ** * - Not warrantied for 1/2 ohm operation - this is a given but I want to spell it out just in case. ** - Meaning if you blow it up you will get a replacement at a discount after sending in the blown amp - but it will not be a free replacement / repair like the standard warranty. D…

I'm gearing up for the impending install in my SC400. I just ordered a 180a High Output alternator that should be here in a week or so. My tenative plan is to run 2 12" Fi Q's (D1 Ohm) on a SAZ-1500D. These will be running along side a JL450/4 for Mids/Highs. Am I going to be okay? Ohiogen, who is selling me the alternator, suggested I throw a Red Top in the back in addition to all of this but I don't want to if I don't have to, as it's just added weight and more money on top of the ~$550 alternator that I didn't want to have to buy in the first place.... It's a LSQ Install and I don't plan on blaring them in a parking lot with the key off or anything irresponsible. …

He said they pull less amps and have more adjustability. He also tried to get me to get a W3 over getting an SA12 He looked up sundowns website and looked at their product and said it looked great and all but JL was still better. LOL What do you guys think about that? Also 3 different car audio shops I went to hadnt even heard of sundown. I tried telling them they are a top rated company on the car audio forums and they all looked at me like I didnt know WTF I was talking about

Got some refurb SA-8s coming next week from Mike for some builds, and here's the first. Its going in a 99 Silvy, made to fit over the center hump under the rear seat. And we did not have to raise the seat at all! The box nets 1.1 cubes, tuned ~ 38hz. https://picasaweb.google.com/ASB2106/NathanS2xSa8# Some of the better pics..
