Hi All, Im in the market for a good EQ for my car. I want to control as much as possible without breaking the bank. im no where near sure what makes an EQ good or what a good price for one is. bassically i want to control the subwoofers frequencies. like from 25 to 80. im not sure if there is an EQ out there that has that capability, so thats why im posting. let me know. thanks, Anton Miller

So... I got bored today and decided to write up equations for amplifiers, like loss, power with efficiency, how to find how efficient it is. basically, a variation of ohms law. as we all know, (V)olts * (A)mps equals (P)ower (V*A=P) but, in amplifier circuitry, this cant be used because amps have their own loss. so lets say our imaginary amplifier is 160A, running off 10.65 Vs, and has an effieciency of 77%. it'll push out around 1312.08 Watts. now to find each number, we use these numbers to find them. Basically, 1312.08W / 10.65V = 123.2a - 160a = 36.8 amps of current lost in the amplifier, 36.8 / 160 = .23, subtract that from 1 and we get .77. simple. I'm quite sure al…

I have an 04 escalade and am wondering if I get a new Deck from say pioneer a dvd player double din style, can I still have my steering wheel controls? There is a lot more than just audio on my steering wheel pertaining to oil readings and gas readings and mileage and all kinds of stuff. Does anyone know what is all controlled by the current head unit and what can be lost from changing it out?

Well on my way to class i smelt something odd... thought it was the dump i was driving past. i pull in to CSN and i see smoke go by my face... so i turn around and my whole trunk is in smoke.... now aparently my ground was bad (pops said too much current). ran 2 amps into 1 ground, just tapped into one amp ground to get them both going (Ground was VERY HOT when the smoke appeared). So i went to Lowes and picked up some 1 gauge and it dont fit in my amp terminal. so i grabed some 2 gauge... FITS... yet the wire is VERY stiff and i cannot find any Ring Lug Connections for 2 gauge so i grabed some bolt connector things.... yet it does not give me a secure connection and i wi…

My jvc kw nx 7000 is buggin' out and they want $50 plus shipping for me to send it to Colorado to diagnose it before they can even give me an idea on price. Has anybody ever dealt with a company for touch screen repair? I am reluctant to spend 70-100 just to send it out to be told it is another 400 to fix. Any ideas?

Alright guys! Its time to upgrade to some new power. My 4k's are beast, but old and a bit out dated. So I thought I would change it up, talked to the guys at ESL and hooked up with some new amps!! So I ordered one up to see how it performs. And I plan to add a second one in the near future. So it arrived yesterday in the mail. But I had to wait all day to get to see it. But when I got home I was greeted with a nice V-Day surprise. Overall quality and craftsmanship looks nice. Its different then just about every other 5k I have seen (layout wise) and all things look very stout! Large wire beefy power supply torrid's,huge output filters, 24 input FET's. Th…

2001 Chevy Impala. A friend's car. Aftermarket alternator rated at 220 max, 105 at idle. Overdrive pulley. Had his mechanic install the big 3 with 1/0. Optima Yellowtop 1050 amps. He only has one amp right now. 2 gauge wire running back to a JL 1000/1v2, 2 farad capacitor, and a 500 amp dry cell, running a JL 13W7. All of this was put in his car professionally... which could be good or bad. His headlights still dim, especially on the heavier individual beats. It's my understanding that the ground wires on these cars connect to a thin piece of metal that's simply folded onto another one, and therefore can't really flow that much current. ...meaning that running a dedic…

Hey all. I'm at a loss right now. I'm preparing for a build replacing my subwoofer. I will be using around 2500 watts of bass plus 250 watts of highs. I'll have one battery, but I rarely play the system with the car off. Anyways... Nathan (from Excessive Amperage) seems like a great guy and super nice, but I'll be paying $25 more for 20A less. The Power Bastards alt is 220A and the Excessive alt is 200A. Any recommendations? Comments/experience on build quality? Both come with an overdrive pully and a one year warranty. Thanks.

  14. i put in my new 200 amp from the group buy at ca.com forums. when over 950 rpm or so, it is awesome, rarely ever drops from 13.5 volts and when it does, not under 13. (going by my dash gauge anyhow) under 950 though, the voltage will drop almost to the red, to around 9.. red is at 7.5 or 8. having the stereo up drops it almost another half volt. either way, that is way low voltage. i could just turn my idle rpm up to 950 but it would burn more gas, and i like the rumble of a healthy v8 idling around 700 rpm. i do not have my optima yellow top in yet, waiting on terminals. im using an old, cheap, autozone battery, with 4 gauge run to the back split into 2 8 gauge wires. …

Well, I've been looking for a ho alt for my brother's Caliber and so far, the only company that has said they can/will build one is Excessive Amperage. I was wondering if anyone here had any experience at all with them. Nathan said he would build me a 200a unit that will do approx. 130 at idle. He also said that the alt is controlled by the car's computer and suggested I also purchase an adjustable external regulator from him for another $135. I'm not sure I need the regulator as we don't ever plan on running at higher voltage. Any input is very appreciated.

so i was sayin how the sub was making a knocking sound(bottoming out). so i decided to perform an experiment. i setup a -6db 50hz test tone put my radio at volume 35(70%) and i tuned the gain to put out 31.62 volts, which is 1000 watts. next i put in the removed the test tone cd and put the song that made the knocking sound in. looking at the volt meter some parts of the song would jump to over 40volts thats like 1600 watts, now i see why the sub was knocking, obviously that is a clipped signal. why is this happening? if i set my amp with a DMM with a test tone why am i getting a huge signal when i play a song. doesnt make sense and also makes the DMM method for setting g…

I was thinking of extending my power and ground wires to give me a little more flexibility with my amp install. Would it be ok to solder some extra length onto the existing wires instead of having to make a whole new run? It would probably only be a foot extra at the most.

  24. due to an exploded turbo i need to dig into my truck so id like to fix some wiring. i have some runs of 0ga that i would like ot not throw away but perhaps combine into one long run or do some light extension to them to route them better. how should i combine 2 sets of 0ga cable? my first thought is to but the ends together and solder them, then wrap with shrink or tape. secondly have any of you run wires in the frame rails and pulled them up into cab in back instead of running through the fire wall and under the carpet? what are your thoughts and recommendations on this method?

i have been looking around and seeing alot of people using external equalizers. my setup right now is 3 pairs of coaxial speakers and 2 re audio 10 inch subwoofers. i have a kenwood deck with the basic bass, mid and treble settings on it. my question is ,is it worth buying an external eq and will i see a big difference with it. i listen to a lot of rap so its bass heavy. and also if i should get an eq any suggestions on what brands ? i have a budget of about 100 to 150$ on one . thanks
