How much of a difference is there between the current xcon and the original with the boob dust cap? I know the newest ones have no more pole vent, but that's about all I know besides the aesthetic of the cone/dust cap. Could they be used in the same box?

My 15" xcon died yesterday, i was playing some music and then it died for a second came back then died again and was gone. I checked it out today the amp works fine, and the sub will hit bass when pushed and held in. I took it out of the box and when i moved it up and down there was a crunching sound along where the wires go through the spider, plus when i moved the spider the sound came for a second back. So I'm sure the wires burnt. So what do I need to do to fix this??? is there a way when I fix this to make the part more heavy duty. My last subwoofer could take twice the beating of this xcon and it never cared for the 4 years I owned it and it was powered with this sa…

Well, Acidburn, Beatdominator, Johnecon2000, and I went up to Prescott AZ today for a local meet and greet, and they had a mic up there so I thought, what the hell, was wondering what my ICON 15's would do with just 1500 watts to them would do. Conditions: - Amps had been on all day and where very very hot to the touch - Subs have been beat'n on all day long showing people and giving demos, coils where allready heated up when this score was taken. - Enclosure tuned to 35hz for street beat, not a good recipe for SPL, but never the lesss, keep that in mind. All in all this set up could easially break the 150db mark if everything was cooled down and had a fresh burp. THe IC…

Today I wrapped up our testing on the final prototype Icon. We are going to production very shortly now. The long story short, the Icon is ready. It was really tested in depth today, ALL kinds of music, from passive listening to full clip for a long time. Not once was there any sign of thermal limits. This new version keeps that same full, warm and surrounding bass the original Icon was known for, bringing a little more punch and attack with an upgrade of added power handling and thermal limits and a little more abuse tolerance. By the way, the Icon bulked up 4 lbs. REALLY happy with this new version, we have something special in this power segment. More pix and v…

Hey Guys, Just wanted to give an update to how my system has been progressing over this past year, particularly with my subwoofer. I've taken some pictures so you guys can take a look at it for yourself. So let me go ahead and state there is no bashing here towards SSA or F.i. has a build house, this is just what I've experienced. But first, let me go ahead and explain my driving habbits. I take a lot of road trips. Anywhere from 3-6 a year. Which most average around the 7 hour mark. Also, I do a lot of driving around as well. Prior to my new job that started in just this past October, I had a 40 mile round trip to work. Outside of that, I also go driving around downt…

  15. I just ordered a pair of GCON 12" D4 to be powered by a couple of 800W RMS amps. While waiting, I figured I'd build a box to fit in my trunk. After deciding I wanted to go with a sealed box to save room on space and measuring the insides of my trunk, I sat down with google sketchup and this is what I came up with. It will be cut from a sheet of 48"x96"x3/4" MDF, wood glued, and then wrapped in trunk-matching carpet. Let me know what you think!

When your sub bass goal is nothing but supreme, unrestrained performance without compromise, the choice is the SSA Evil. The capabilities of the SSA Evil put it in very exclusive company at the zenith of the marketplace. This is where you look first for the ultimate ‘ground pounder’ that will not miss or muddy a note. Crisp and clean across the entire frequency range for those demanding outstanding linear performance thanks to an FEA optimized motor. Employing a massive triple stack motor, five sandwiched 10” progressive Nomex spiders, an anodized vented Aluminum former, a huge 4-layer 4” flat wound Aluminum coil and a towering ‘Venturi’ solid pole, the SSA Evil has the m…

  17. HOTTT TOPIC: WHO WOULD WIN? SSA XCON 18" VS FI BTL 18" VS digital designs DD9518g VS Incriminator audio's DeathPenalty 18" I like the XCON's they are my number one pick right now, B/C I can afford at least one of them sometime this year and all i read about them is great, but what about the other brands? I am looking for: (In preference order) -Sound quality 1st -Loudness 2nd -size of subwoofer 18" or 15".... maybe just maybe a 12" but i have a feeling that would sacrifice too much loudness for only a minor increase in sound quality. please feel free to recommend any other sub brands and models i should look at, im not buying anything as of yet. I am only looking for a…

  20. Area for box max is like 27x25x21 middle might get 26 but already should be plenty big assume little under will work, will use 4 or 5 4" ports guess depends on effects of more port area on sub from what I estimated if right somewhere between 50-62 for port area, tuning preferred for all around sound and output. Not sure how the speaker will react with a little more box assume it should be ok and went with Zcon just because power is little over Xcons RMS and box from site little bigger. Hoping it helps low end, but any suggestions not sure if the Torres Tuning Calculator is correct and unlike when I lived in N California, there not real shops unless I drive 2 hours round…

hi there, i'm getting a pair of 15inch xcon pretty soon and i'm working on my box design. They'll go in an 2004 elantra gt, so hatchback. subs up, port on one side (a 10inch sonotube) with enough clearance to breath. amp is an mtx te4001d, so around 4k watt to the pair. -what's the subs displacement? -cutout -is one 10inch sono enough (box is 7.2 before all displacement, so pretty on the small size) gives around 12f -how do you think they'll react in like like 3.2-3.5 feet each? (3.5 if single baffle, otherwise 3.2) -i had tc sound's tc-9 prior, anyone know how does compare? -anything i should know about these beside that? thanks for the help in advance

  22. Ok, this is just a test feeler for SERIOUS interest. We have not finalized the added cost or pricing yet, so don't ask. Weight wise, they are nearly identical to the current caps being used on the SSA Icon and SSA Xcon (possible convex cap for the Zcon). Below is what the 10" Xcon looks like with the Carbon Fiber cap installed (thank you to Duran for the work and Sean DeYoung for the picture). If we were to offer it, it would be a limited edition, upgrade option. Tell us your thoughts. We really like the looks of it.

I scored this classic ICON the other day. It's brand new and has never seen power. it was in the original box from SSA with the stickers and brochure and the blue foam pads were still intact. I was told it was a D2 so I planned on wiring it in series and powering it with a US Acoustics 2300 at 4 ohms bridged. I hooked up the US Acoustics and it was screaming and then the fan kicked on immediately. I hooked up my DMM and found out the ICON is actually 1.5/1.6 ohms. So wiring in series results in 3.1 ohms and not 4 ohms. I just sold my US Amps USA-1000 so the only amp I have left that would be able to handle the new ohm load is an older US Amps USA-200. It's rated at 520W x…

  24. Let me start off by saying that the sub in question is in non functioning condition right now, so I can't make any changes or adjustments to see what helps. I am trying to decide on a recone, or another sub choice. I had the sub (D1 coils) running at 2 ohm on a BRZ2400.1D in a 3.2ft^3 net sealed enclosure. 1/0 wire from front battery to a XS D3100 in the rear and then to the amp. I had the LPF set at 80hz with 24db slope and subsonic all the way down on the amp (15hz I think). I have a fairly eclectic music choice, but listen to rock and hip-hop mostly. This thing would hit the lows(40-30hz) nicely. I had a slight tickle in my throat and could visually see my door panel…
