  1. Hi all, I have been away from SSA for a while but have come back with a new idea. Again, this is just an idea or starting point to build off of and I am looking to the more knowledgeable figures on this site to guide me some. I currently have a 16' by 16' room with a cheap logitech surround sound audio set up and am looking to combine two ideas I have. I have some great sounding speaker cabinets just sitting and collection dust and want to make my own home audio setup along with a great sub system. I currently have two recliners and want a couch to replace them so I thought I would build my own sectional couch made just how i want it and for the space available. Again…

  2. My little sister is wanting a cheap little set up. Nothing fancy just something cheap and sounds halfway decent at normal listening levels. Her room is pretty small so Imaging is not a concern. She would be happy with something off the shelf from Walmart but she wants me to help build something that is hers. I'll more than likely buy a small 4 channel amp from parts express and build the crossovers and add a 3.5mm plug so she can hook her Iphone to it. I was looking at these Dayton's they are pretty cheap about 20 bucks a piece: DC28F-8 and DC160-8. My question is would y'all recommend anything else that's around the same price range. My knowledge of what's avail…

I'm planning to build a budget setup to listen to music while I'm at work. I operate a CNC router in a wood mill which is extremely noisy, and requires ear plugs to operate all day. I need something loud enough to hear from ~5ft away under these conditions. Obviously fidelity is out of the question, so high dollar equipment isn't necessary. Just need to hear my music. I plan on using my Lepai 2020+ amplifier powering 2 Pyle 6" midrange speakers and a pair of Pyle PSN1165 tweeters. My question: If i wire a mid and tweeter to each channel, will I need a crossover of some sort, or for this setup will a plug and play be fine? The only controls this amp has is volume, and a su…

A friend of mine would like to put together a system that is loud enough to be heard while playing drums. I guess the idea is that he plays while listening to music and he's tired of doing so while wearing headphones. budget: <300 for speakers and amp i'm doubt a small bookshelf system will be capable so i was thinking, with his budget constraints, pro audio gear. his best bet would probably be used gear but would anyone have a new option? he is not very interesting in building the enclosure himself and i live too far away to help him with that.

  5. Hey guys, I'm pretty experienced with car audio so I decided I'd give home audio a try. I am VERY disappointed with the output of the subwoofer/enclosure. I think its due to poor driver selection and poor box design. However, I would like to salvage my build. I just want to know if I am wasting my time or if I should start allover again. I would really like to modify my current box if possible. Goals: The main use is for music, possibly some video gaming, and possibly some movies. Background: To begin, I had a pair of SA-8's in my car then when the v2's came out I decided that I would get a pair of v2's for my car and put the old pair in my house. This was mainly an…

i'm looking for a pretty sturdy 2 channel amp for my home theater system and came across this and was wondering what you thought about it? i don't know much of anything when it comes to home stereo amplifiers. i want something that is going to push around 200-300rms at 8ohms if you have any suggestions i would definitely be open to them. this is one that i found and it seems to have everything i need, but i don't know the brand and how good this would actually be. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Adcom-GFA-555se-Stereo-Amplifier-/130717532260?pt=US_Home_Audio_Amplifiers_Preamps&hash=item1e6f5f4064

I'm a student at a university with 100% on-campus residence, and this means we always party in dorms. I've done a few installs in cars, but have decided to work indoors this winter. My roommates and I typically host on weekends, and so far, the roomy's Harmon/Kardon computer speakers + sub have done a decent job, but I think it's time to step it up... and give the little things a break from max volume LOL. I'd like to know which way I should start looking: PA or home theater speakers. I originally thought two towers (two full-ranges and a tweeter in each) and a sub would do the job well, but I'm not the expert. I've seen places with a few bookshelf speakers and a coup…

I have Dayton Audio spa 500 plate amp for power, and the sub I will be using is a sa-12 I have lying around. This will be used in my home theater. My questions are, what is the typical tunning freq with home audio. (I will also listen to some music occasionally) I have also noticed that in home theater that the boxes are larger than typically used in a car audio setup. This will be my first ht project and I was wondering if some one could point me in the right direction. ( box designing literature/software) Thanks in advance.

Without sounding like a complete douche and "Oh, I have so much audio equipment ..." I think everyone knows there's a lot of good pieces out there on the used market. I've got JL w7's and my share of 4-channel amplifiers. My question is about the w7, but any car audio equipment for that matter ... I know next to nothing about home audio, other than I like it and I'm sure I'll go down this route as I get older (mature / family). In this situation, is it worth holding onto these pieces and trying to make something of it? Or just go on as I would and purchase proper home audio pieces when the time comes? The only reason I ask is it would be silly to spend $500 on a 300w h…

  14. Need some advice\input, Looking to build an outdoor\patio subwoofer enclosure and find a suitable subwoofer to put in it. I am completely new to outdoor audio, my initial thoughts were a marine subwoofer and a birch box doused in resin and truck bedliner? Again, TOTALLY new to all of this so i may be way off. Whatever the sub and enclosure material, they will both need to stand up to the very muggy, hot central indiana summer weather. Sealed or possibly PR enclosure, Will be powered by a dayton 150 watt amp. Any and all input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

  15. I have (2) 12" Intelligent Audio Systems (TC SOUNDS PROTOTYPES) 3" Copper Coils Single 3ohm 1000w RMS Designed for 1 cubic feet sealed enclosures. w/ poly fill added All I have is a basic 5 channel samsung home theater system that came as a package deal with my bluray player, so i'm obviously looking to upgrade. For starters I'm only looking for some power to push this substage. I looked into Crown XLS/XTI amplifiers around 2,000w RMS because that's all I know.... what brands and models should I consider, nothing top of the line but reasonably priced! Will I have to buy a receiver to hook the amplifier up to it. Not really sure how this works so any suggestions are apprec…

  17. So guys, i'm frustrated with my system to a certain degree, i currently have my mains as a cerwin vega e-312 pair...they're ok but the enclosure is mostly sub -tiny midrange and a tweeter. It feels like my entire ht is subsonic lol- coupled with the 2 15's subwoofers covering the lfe channel. I want more midrange and midbass particularly for music - i want to hear actual bass timbre from a guitar like a cab. I'm thinking about the eminence beta 8a's which are readily available in my country. I wanna pair em with a soft dome-dayton probably -crossed at 3k maybe. I'm not sure how to model this, I've thrown it into winisd and i'm not too sure if i trust it. But any enclosu…

I want to give my brother a unique gift for his birthday. I decided that I am going to make him a MP3 radio. It will not produce ear shattering audiophile output but it should sound good for what it is. The design of this radio will make it useful for near field listening such as a computer desk or small room book shelf. There will be four different audio input methods: MP3 decoder with memory card and USB drive reader Bluetooth input capability 3.5mm audio input jack input The unit will have three identical enclosures. The center enclosure for the electronics and two enclosures for the left and right speaker. I am using a Dayton audio 15x2 amplifier and Tang Band 3" f…

I just picked up a Yamaha R-V503 for $6.99! I'm the processing of going through the thing to make sure everything works and was wondering if anyone had a 5.1 track I could download? I'm not really a movie fan so I don't own a single movie; nor have I ever illegally downloaded one. Doesn't need to be anything spectacular. I would just like to make sure "Dolby logic pro surround decoder" works. Thanks in advance! Oh! And I realize it's kind of a waste of time to make sure the 5.1 works if I don't watch movies and thus don't listen to anything recorded in 5.1, but I'm considering reselling this unit if I could get north of $50 for it.

This is not what they are designed for but I am sure that I will be very happy with them. I feel that Dayton Audio is a value leader with all of it's products and is often overlooked. Looking to upgrade my living room experience and came across these. From the reviews I have read, they appear to be pretty nice. The biggest reason I am looking at these is the low profile wall mount would be pleasing aesthetically and space is very important to the wife, but I do not want that to be the only factor. The wife has asked me to go smaller for once in my life and I WILL NOT win that battle unfortunately as this is our family room. Bookshelf speakers on stands is not an option with the kids. I am looking at using these for a 5.1 as that is all the room layout will allow. Front left and right http://axiomaudio.com/m22-onwall-speakers.html $488.00 USD/pair Cen…
