I ordered a mild Built FI audio BL 15 last month. It showed up last night. Unfortunately it has a big chip out of the top magnet. I want to run this inverted so now this is throwing that idea all off. The Sub was packaged very well from them and the box sustained no damage anywhere during shipping. Must have slipped past FI Audio on the way out the door. I know it probably isn't going to hurt anything but for looks sake it's really bugging me. Its there a Rubber boot or something that I could cover the two magnets with so it doesn't stand out so much? I see some other sub brands have these boot's or covers. Here's a pic. It's kind of crappy but the Magnet was jack…

I've done a few builds in the past, but have yet to use your products. I work for a very large cabinet manufacturer in Minnesota and have a high level of skill when it comes to wood fabrication. It's been 5+ years since my last build and I am a bit rusty. Needless to say, I don't trust my calculations and I am hoping someone can look-over these to let me know their thoughts on the dimensions/specs for these particular subs. This build will be for (2) BL-12's each in their own enclosure (with both enclosures attached together @ the ports). Below is my dimensions/specs. If this is in the wrong section of the forum, I apologize. If a moderator can move this to the proper…

Hi everyone, first time poster on this forum. Posting all the way from Australia. Okay, So I'm in the planning stage for a system in the new car, and I've just started doing up some rough design/placement ideas on Inventor, when I ran in to a problem. I'm designing this for a Fi Q12 ported, and I know the recommended enclosure sizes given by Fi of 1.8-2.5 cf @ 28-33Hz. However, that is quite a large margin of variation for a recommended enclosure volume (0.7 cf and 5Hz tuning frequency can affect the sound a fair bit). As I'm not a massive fan of guessing/speculating about the best enclosure volume, I decided to pull out the calculator and the old loudspeaker design coo…

  7. I currently have an SSD 10" on a 1000/1 JL audio XD. the sub had all the cooling options and it is a dual 2 ohm I was an all out JL fan since high school and I was happy with my W7 for a very long time. After ripping 2 foam surrounds i decided to give FI a try I have a Sealed box @ .4cu. ft. and my SSD 10 has all the cooling options.. QTS, flatwound ETC ETC. well i have had the sub let me down 3 times thus far. The first time was spider seperation and the last 2 times were either a wire breaking off the chassis mount or a melted terminal. I have been out of the game for a while and im not saying im to blame for at least some of it. Truth be told I listen to Several g…

Ok I have a x 10" with single magnet structure. Svc 4 ohm. I need this sub to be a svc 2 ohm and have a small tear in surround fixed. I have emailed fi twice on this and gotten no response. Anyone know how much it would cost or anything about reconing this?

So I have been driving a single cab truck for close to 10 years now. I've always liked car audio and I went from a shitty 10", to a really nice Ascendant Audio Assassin set up, which was pushing the limits of what I could fit in a Ford Ranger. Got an F-150, but I didn't drive much at that point, so I kept my Assassin 8"s and hifonics amp. But I'm getting a Ford Focus hatchback now, and I have been wanting a Fi Q for years, so I want to do it right. I was originally thinking two 12"s, but that seems like it would be a nightmare to power (3000 watts RMS can't be cheap o.o). So I figured a single 15" would be a nice middle ground. I have no idea if I would want to go porte…

  11. over a year ago i purchased my 2 fi btl n2 15's fully loaded, and because i waited 4 months to get em, i didnt wanna wait to install, so i went to a local shop to have a box built and installed, it was supposed to cost around 500, but ended up being 800 when i left, a few months later i got into a small fender bender and the box fell just fell appart, i took it back for repairs and they said the could do it for 100, so i did it annnnd, nothing was really fixed except they just re positioned it, it has been un hooked after the alternator they sold me died, i and just gave up at that point. recently i have decided to rebuild and everything with the help of my uncle cause i …

Hey everyone I made a similar thread some time ago, but it seems to have died and my question today is a bit different. I know it is not designed for it, but I am determined to try my Q12 in a ported box. If it doesnt sound good, I can always put it back in my sealed box. Anyway, since I do have a high QTS version, should any of the suggested box parameters be changed? Say a smaller/larger enclosure or a higher/lower tuning frequency? I should be able to go up to 2.1-2.3 cu.ft after the sub's displacement. And I was planning on tuning to 32hz as that's whats recommended. Also, would polyfill be beneficial, or not? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Hello, I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to assist me with my first enclosure build. I created an enclosure in Torres that seems to meet my needs, but I am not quite sure if there is enough port area for these subwoofers. Being a long time lurker, I know the people here are quite knowledgeable, so I figured I would throw it out there to see if it will work, or if it needs to be changed up. Here is the screenshot for what I have worked up so far in Torres: Does that seem good enough for port area? This is going in the trunk of a 2004 Toyota Corolla. The dimensions for height and width are the max that I can get away with for front firing subs. If …

Hello guys! I am new to the forum, but recently got back into the swing of car audio. After 10 years of not having any bass I'm ready for my new build. Right now I have a basic setup in my 2011 Toyota Corolla S Kenwood KDC-X596 H/U Alpine Type R SPR-60C Components up front Alpine Type R SPR-69 6x9's in the back Hifonics GLX 100.4 running mids and highs Hifonics X1000.1 running the sub I'm going to pick up an SSD 12'' and run it ported. My question is this..... I have worked a lot trying to figure out the appropriate dimension in order to obtain 2.25 cu ft of internal space after sub and port displacement tuned to 33Hz. Each program gives me a little bit different nu…

  17. I recently reconed my BTL UFO 12" with high xmax option. I used the spacers provided to space the basket .250" above the bump in the motor. I first knocked the dust cap off in a huge box I had made for my zcon. 3.1 cu ft. tuned to 32. Glued it back up and I did it again. I built a new box because I thought big box, over powering, exc. could have been the cause. Plus it didn't sound that great (anticipated) I have a box made.. 2.4 cu ft. tuned to 32. Knocked the dust cap off again today. I am using household goop to glue the dust cap. Should I go with CA? Possibility that the recone was not made to be spaced from the motor?

  19. So I guess this isn't really Fi specific but I've got this box modeled up in sketchup and I'm wondering if it would be beneficial to add an angled piece to each corner and to cut an angle into the inside turn of the port at the corner or if leaving it the way it is would be fine. I haven't ever heard a back to back comparison with two similar boxes, one with the angled corners and one without so any input would be great!

I need help on how to fix my torn surround. Can I get a replacement from Fi and repair it myself or do I have to send it in? Is there a proven way to fix a tear in a foam surround other than shoe goo? Also, can you determine the options a sub has without tearing the speaker apart? Thanx guys.

  23. okay so I have posted on here a time or two before when first acquiring my FI audio speakers. I am driving a 2010 Chevy Malibu two fully loaded 12" Fi Q's, built for a sealed enclosure due to the lack of space to slide a box in the trunk. I have a Brutus BRZ 2400 hooked up to them, running them wired down to 1 ohm resistance. I also have a kinetic 2400 battery, nothing done to battery up front or alternator. 0 gauge knukoncepts ran throughout This is my daily driver and i run the system every time im on the road (on highways for 2.5+ hours a day) the RMS rating for these subs is 1500 apiece if i remember correctly, and from what I have heard, added resistance when turnin…

  24. Hi everyone, first post here. I have an Fi Q 12, I ordered it fully loaded with the high QTS option with the intention to use it in a sealed enclosure. I currently have it in a 1cu ft box. Unfortunately the sub response really rolls off below 35-40hz, which is very disappointing. I have had much lower end subwoofers in sealed boxes that were actually much better on the low end frequencies. So my thoughts are to try it in a ported enclosure and see how it responds. Problem is I have High QTS. What will happen and how will the sub react to a ported enclosure? If anyone has any input on how else to solve my issue or any ideas about the enclosure let me know, it's greatly a…
