My friend and I are starting to build a system for his 2004 Tahoe. We are running 4 sp4 18s. We was wondering what kind of air space and tuning we should run. The amp we are using is an American Bass VFL1100.1. Your help is appreciated.

  3. I am trying to get a box together for my to fi q 12s & I am looking at about 5 cubes net (maybe too big for the subs possibly 5 cubes gross would be better?) after port, sub, bracing displacement tuned to about 32hz powered by saz 3500v2.I am stuck on port area or it was just less than I expected I could put 2 6inch aeros in but the length is what gets me. I was using the torres box calculator 5.57 per cubic foot & that seemed kinda low to me since the specs say 12-16ft per cu ft I know thats a general rule of thumb for slot ports but still. I guess what I need is some help designing a box my max dimensions are 19" Height x 39" Length x 17" depth. This is going…

I know people are going to say it depends on my application, but what would be a good starting net volume for a box for a single Team 15. Running on a DC 5K with 2 XS batteries and a Northstar 170ft. Do these subs like bigger enclosures? I will be slamming it daily but also doing some SPL. I'd like to tune it around 33hz. Thanks in advance.

I just installed my new Fi Q12 today, and it sounds fantastic for the most part. But there are a few frequencies that are causing a loud rattling/popping noise. It's in a sealed box, I'm 100% certain I'm not clipping it, or overpowering it. Lower frequencies don't cause the noise, just higher ones around 100 hz I'd guess. The noise only happens at mid to high volume. It sounds like the noise is coming from directly behind the dustcap. Is the problem a loose dustcap? Any input is appreciated.

  6. I have been having trouble trying to understand on how to make a box design, so I was just going to see if anyone here could help me. I know that when some one asks this question they tend to leave out important information when needing help so I'm going to give you all the info I can, and please tell me if I am missing anything. I am truly worried about this since I am eager to get a X10 or X12 and it has to deal with power issues. I have an Arc Audio XXD 2080 and it des 240 x 1 @ 4 ohms when bridged. I truly have been wanting to get a Fi Audio sub since three years ago but would like to know would the amp and the X10 or X12 would work together hand in hand or would it be a total flop?

11 cubic for 2 Q 18's. i want to retain the 33hz volume as much as possible but i absolutely want to reach 75hz at a very good volume out of these. my idea was to go 11 cubic and put a bit of poly fill inside. it is not for certain that i will buy 2 Q's, i will know after i test my rebuild SP4 to see if i can get the volume i want out of it at the frequencies i want. im expecting i wont be able to. this would be the box design:

how much power could one safely put into a fully loaded Fi q 18? i got my sp4 fixed and will be testing some boxes but if i dont get the sounds i want i am going to sell it and buy another sub. the Q seems a logical choice as i want more frequencies but also want to keep the volume. i am undecided on single or dual or sealed vs ported. my thought was that if i replace the SP4 i would get 2 q's and thus have greater cone area with more control and higher bass frequency range. in my mind that would mean i could get more volume out of them than the sp4. the power handling would be close to the same

So I'll be running my SSA Zcon 12" on 3k for now until I get around to purchasing a recone for an sp4 motor I got in a trade. My problem is..I have a trunk car and limitations on box sizes. Depth and height are a problem for me. I have come to the conclusion that the biggest I can fit is an L port enclosure about 3.9-4 cubes. If I give it about 4 inches of port and still have net, will this enclosure server well to the sp4? I'll be running 3k @ the sp4. If not recommend what you all have experimented with.

Does the cooling option effect the performance of the sub? like does it make the sub quieter or anything? i read the flatwound coil makes a sub prone to peak so what does the cooling option do?

  16. I had my box custom made and shipped to me. I asked for a 15" birch box to be made. The specs are 31.25 inches wide, 16 inches high and 19 inches deep. 3.25 inch wide port with 47.25 sq inches of port area. 3.55 cubes internally after displacements and tuned to 31.8Hz. All of these numbers appear to be within the specs posted by Nick for a BL 15....this is the only size box that will fit in my trunk. And taller, wider or deeper and it will not fit. Obviously a bit bigger would be great but is this not an efficient box? And if not, how, when it is built within the specs posted for BL 15 enclosures? Thanks.

Guys, I was wondering why some people go outside the recommended cubic feet from FI for enclosure size? I am thinking because its vehicle specific or is there another reason? I have seen guys running 4 BL 12's in a 13 cube net enclosure.

Hi my name is michael, I am new here and figured this would be best place to get help. I have 2012 fusion, I want to add these 15s I understand the box will have to be built in the trunk and will pretty much take it all up. I will be putting the batteries in the spare tire well. I will be running DC power 270Xp. Min of 2 runs pos/ negative 0 gauge from front to rear and probley the NS-1 amp. I have around 45 inches in length, 18 High, and 25 deep. I have been doing some research and it looks possible and many cars have 2 15s but just trying to get others opinions. I know it gonna be hard but I figured might as well do it right the first time. Thank you for taking time to…

a friend wants a fi q 18" in a blow through box in his S10. my thought was to build a box in the bed with a collar of linexed MDF into the cab. once i have the box built then i would build another box over it to span the distance of the bed rails and help weather proof the box in the bed. a ZX1500.1 will be his amp with a 220A mechman alt and a XS 2500 battery. he mostly listens to chilly peppers, some techno, basically what ever pandora throws on. to that end i think the sub might do well tuned a tad higher than 32 but what are your thoughts? is there anything that most people over look when building a blow through?

I have 10 foot of it to go from the box to the amp, and while I haven't seen the sub yet, I'm having a hard time seeing 8 gauge in a 1ohm configuration on the coils. Will it fit? Or should I use 12 gauge for inside the box? (This isn't really a question about power...I already have 10 foot of 8 gauge so it's more availability. I'd have to go buy anything but the 8 which I have)

I have only recently built my first vented box and ive built a few sealed but anyone can do that. I want to try a 4th order to see how it works. my goals are to flatten my response curve and hit 30-90 hz. a large part of this is just the experience so its not all about the sound but i do want to get a more musical setup with high output volume. I played with things all night and read up with what i could to see how this thing is ment to work. thoughts? the .33 cubic that is directly off the sub cone in the vented box is not taken into consideration on the torres sheet. by my math the tuning will lower itself a bit with that.

currently running a sundown saz1500 powering a fully loaded 12in fi bl in a 2.5 cu ft box tuned to 34 hz. I was recently at a local audio shop and had the main guy set my gains properly so i did no have any clipping. I was not very impressed with the outcome. As i come to find i had been running with clipping since day one and my system is now quieter. He told me to tune my box to 40-42hz and it would be louder. My question is how much louder? and will i still be able to play most rap music? What would be the lowest tone i could safely play?
