I bet your nightshade wants way more power than that. If your on a budget then you can go with them but I wouldnt, I would look at Audioque or Audiopipe over Hifonics. Just my .02
  2. So I tried the DMM, Left coil read 1.5 ohm. right coil read nothing. Don't know if the DMM was bad or not. The sub is supposed to be dual 1 ohm to get a final load of 2 ohm. Don't know if that helps at all. Looks like i'll be upgrading subs. Sounds like your voice coil is bad. You need to find out how this problem arose instead of just buying a new sub to do the same thing to it, which would be ridiculous.
  3. how the hell did you determine this? sounds to me like you have no idea what your talking about.. It could be the tinsel leads, I had a sub that exhibited the same problems and it was the tinsels. It is hard to imagine happening on the Fi though, as I believe they use the sandwiched leads unless it was a model before they started doing it.

Never personally owned one but heard they put out less than rated power. I noticed the price on them and i think you get what you pay for....

Welcome to the end of a positive bank account balance.
  7. bro, you got some reading to do, alot of it. True and this is coming from someone who also has a ton of reading to do. you ain't a kidding bro, i have read so much that i got to re-read it, in order to form a better understanding of what i had just read..... I so wish there was a actual school here in IN. , I would be there! I am currently bouncing from t-line enclosures to electrical systems, back and forth..... chop Chop, pick up this book. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=500-035&source=googleps It will simply amaze you.
  8. Theroetically If you double your power you can gain 3db. In my experience thats all that is. In my own application whenever I double the power I gain 1.8db. Others have had better success while even countless more have experienced the phenomenon of actually gaining less than a db. Take it for what its worth. Everything is vehicle specific and will change from 1 like vehicle to the next.
  9. If you double cone area and power, under theoretical conditions, you'll see a 6 db gain.
  10. If that was the case then people would be doing 300-700db's in car audio which doesnt happen. I think the record is 180 something db's, why would people be bragging on 160's if 300 was possible. It is easy to jump from 120 db's to 140db's but after that it start's getting harder and harder to gain db's. If you doubled the power like you said you wanted to then you would possibly gain 3db's but it all depends. Could you please type better also so it will be easier to read and understand, thanks since it is part of the rules.
  11. Ok I see. Thanks for your time. Really appreciate it. Ordering now
  12. These are words on the computer, when did typing show emotion or anything. I simply answered his question and said to type clearly and better, so its easier to read and its part of the rules. If you got offended by it or by my answers then thats you and some issues you have to deal with yourself because Im not up tight or anything.
  13. Had to Subscribe to this to watch the fireworks.... For the record, I understood him clearly... Jay-cee, I think you are very helpful or normally try to be, but sometimes you come off like your a bit uptight or maybe wound a bit to tight... Not sure if thats the exact way to put it....
  14. hey sound-vibration cam you pm me i have a question and i dont understand how this thing works.

sorry wrong forum will repost under speaker
  16. sounds like there's a failure somewhere in regards to the tinsel leads.... hard to believe considering the # of them in these things... I'd email Nick and let him know what's up, could be a cold solder joint, shit happens sometimes...
  17. 155.1 dB - woohoo This was with a "Monster" prototype woofer -- not a production speaker. Interestingly... with all my tweaks to the Z v.2 prototype it was doing the same numbers per watt up to 2500 watts (I stopped measuring with the Monster at that point). So... I may be able to match this with a full production trim Z v.2 driver. Previous best was 154.9 with an 18v electrical system and two SAZ-3000Ds on the sub... this time I am on 12v but with two SAZ-4500Ds (power is similar). Some more pics of the setup : I haven't played with front to back box positioning since I built the new amp rack (yah, slacking... I know) -- but I'll work on that a bit when I get time and see if I can increase this.
