  1. what do you mean by that? There is nothing special about them, they will create sound. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, not even for a paperweight. Don't listen to this crap. He's bias. I have heard single and dual set-ups for daily and competition set-ups and they are great. Subs are like food. Its mostly about preferences. Is his bias really any different than yours? They are both based on opinions, just like the food analogy you used.

It was hard to discern from your post if you still wanted a Q or if you are now leaning toward a BL but I have a 15" Fi Q in a ported box but i can take the sub out and sell just the sub... works well in both ported and sealed enclosures.
  3. The individual coils are still the same impedance each, so they'll still see the same power relative to one another.
  4. I wouldn't give them a dime of my money.
  5. All of the S version batteries except for the 3400 have steal protective cases. The S3400 only comes with the auto terminals and not the case. The rest of the S versions come with steal case and auto terminals.
  6. I can't help but chuckle at the people running 4kw+ on a pair of drivers in a "daily" system. Considering the power compression occurring and the general inefficiencies involved....how little of an audible benefit they are receiving for all of that additional money spent on the amplifier and additional electrical required to support such a system.
  7. There are a large bunch of idiots on the web that have no idea what power does or why you'd need it. IMO going ballistic on your charging system to add some extra large amplifier is just compensating for a lack of manhood. Obviously competition aside as that is for a specific goal, but people commenting that you NEED to give a sub like a BTL at least 2kW are just flat out wrong and stupid.
  8. It may look cool or be nice to have a crazy piece in the model line up, but in the end it is not always worth it or financially a good move. As so many of these monster power amps get poped all the time and at the same time the competitor (because we know in reality no one needs an amp that size for daily), can strap multiple smaller, more durable, and less expensive to repair models. Plus for a competitor, (the one with the single monster amp) if one amp fries during competiton he is done until a replacement or repair, where as the other competitor with multiple smaller amplifiers has an amp pop, he just just rewire or swap in a replacement much cheaper. Yes, there is the crowd that does not care, they just want to have the biggest what ever, just to say they have the biggest. Also, in reality, for a daily driver making the most out of less power on less current demand is far more impressive then having loads of watts and huge alts and not putting it too it's fullest. That is why I loved the look on peoples faces when, during prototype testing, I told them all I had in the back was a single 12" sub woofer, sealed on an earth shattering 240 watts. It did not compute that I had well over 100 watts more on the front stage.
  9. If you want cheap you have the wrong hobby. Get the MDF where its closest to where you live, and quit tripping over dollars to pick up a dime.
  10. It is a win win choice, it is just a decision of how high you want the limits to be. The Icon's can get quite loud, can be very composed, and get extremely low. The Xcon's take it up to the next level.

Router with a circle jig is what you need to make a perfect circle. If you don't have those, use a Jigsaw and a steady hand. That's what I did for years...
  12. agreed. XCONs if price isn't an issue. Both will work great, with the added thermal ability the XCON is a better choice.

Power ratings are based on the coil and cooling of the subwoofer, not cone size.
  14. Thanks for adding some clarification. I understood that this idea was not popular, but I was not completely satisfied with why not. I appreciate you all helping me understand more in depth.
  15. Cancellation occurs whenever any frequency isn't 100% in phase. The levels vary with degrees out of phase, but you will have serious anomalies. If you have no goals for the idea then generically speaking it makes no sense. If you have a goal in mind, then there is another way to do this.
  16. The reason it won't work is because in a ported enclosure the subs have a "group delay" which is kind of like the idea behind time alignment (VERY LOOSELY BASED COMPARISON). The sound wave from the speaker is slightly out of sync with the wave of the input signal. The group delay changes with the diffrent design parameters of the enclosure, one of them being the enclosure tuning. If you were to build a box with seperate chambers tuned to different frequencies it could and most likely would cause cancellations (it would be like when two speakers playing the same frequency are wired out of phase, they move but you hear little to nothing) at frequencies that no one could possibly guess. That is a bad thing for MANY MANY reasons. Like it was stated, if you had a goal behind trying that kind of design, we could help you find another more productive way to achieve that goal. Otherwise that is about the simplest way I could think of to explain one of the main reasons it won't work.
  17. Because their batteries tend to explode? Powermaster 4 lyfe False. Not false. You just haven't seen the thread What causes an exploded battery? - Realm of Excursion Maybe asking where or how I got the information or where I'd seen it would have been wise before just using a blanket and blind "huurrr FALSE". I'm not going to register on another one of Ant's monopoly of forums just to read a single thread. But "tend to" indicates that it's a problem with the majority of their batteries when the simple matter of fact is that far more of their batteries provide years of faithful service than the number that fail. Yes, if you search the forums you will find threads about Kinetik batteries that had some kind of problem. But guess what? You can find that about any battery used in this industry. You don't think Powermasters fail? But I don't go around spouting off about how all Powermasters tend to explode and fail because I read a thread on the internet. It happens, and generally when a product does fail the person using it fails to tell the full story and about how it was used and abused prior to failure. So I wouldn't exactly rely on a thread on an internet forum as indisputable proof to validate a certain viewpoint or trend for a entire brand. Lastly, without having in-depth knowledge of actual return rates and reasons for failures (etc) for both Kinetik and Powermaster you can not actually demonstrate with any validity that Kinetiks tend to fail more frequently than Powermasters. I'm not talking internet topics....actual verifiable #'s from the companies. So yes.......false, as I originally stated. Although it is fairly humorous that out of our conversation, you think I'm the one throwing around blind blanket statements when you opened with "their batteries tend to explode"...... Hmmm....that sounds like a pretty blind blanket statement to me......

wow lol you got it out for him dont you? nah man. if you just take a second to look at the way he talks and acts, you would understand. have you ever seen the way he talks down on people on the his forum? its rediculous. besides, anyone can do wonders with 4 18s and 30k watts.
  23. Great, now we will have even more dipshits who want to run more than 8k to a sub just because this amp exists. Going to be a bumblefuck and I am sure a lot of these will fail based on people buying them who shouldn't. *by no means am I implying that everyone who runs that much power is a dipshit
