  1. I highly suggest you do some research to better understand the settings on your head unit and amplifier. All though it may seem tedious and useless it will pay off when you have a fully functional setup for a long time with out need repair or replacement.
  2. Would it really? I am thinking along the lines of a 12 and a new Icon would be my first thought. However the Icon I have is in pristine condition and I have no reason to want or need to replace it.My son bought the Icon I have here and get a hell of a deal. I can'[t remember who he bought it from but I know there is a Youtube vid of the original owners car that had 3 tens in it. He took very good care of his equipment. I would not doubt it, Mark and Aaron have doe a lot of changes since the first gen Icon, I would not upgrade unless you had to. I was thinking along the same lines....A company like SSA is always going to find ways to improve. But....What I have works great. If and when I need to upgrade a new Icon will be mine. Understand...the wife isn't crazy about a semi old man like myself still having a fascination with car audio.
  3. This is why manufacturers and dealers hate giving guys "deals". Because if you do it once, they expect it every time. If you don't do it every time for them, the customer bitches and gets upset. They tell their friends about their "deals", so their friends expect the same deal. If the friend doesn't get the same deal, friend gets pissed and bitches about it. People randomly ask for discounts, if they don't get them they get pissed off and bitch about it. This is a prime example. New owners apparently aren't willing to give you the same "deal" Ant did. Tough shit and deal with it. If you're interested, buy the product at the price they offered. If not, just don't buy it instead of bitching about it publicly. If they offered you any type of discount, be happy with what you got instead of bitching it's not enough. They don't owe you a god damned thing, they don't have to give you any discount at all.
  4. The product is inferior to others on the market and the owner's a douchebag. Apparently that's not important to you, though. Waste your money however you wish. A decent amount for what? It depends on your goals and what you are trying to accomplish.
  5. Once set up correctly, the Dcon 15 should be overwhelming the door speakers with ease.
  6. Do not use the "bass boost" on the amp. The sub level control on the head unit(assuming it has sub level RCAs) will raise lower RCA voltage to the amp and is a nice way to adjust the volume for when you have passengers or just don't want to be at full volume. Best bet is to read some "how to's" on how to tune/adjust your amp to help save your sub from being damaged do to distortion.
  7. Ha lows, I thought he was talking 25hz and under. Definitely tune lower as in 30-32hz if you want some lows
  8. FYI, prefab boxes for mainstream subs rarely are ever tuned low enough to be ideal. Secondly, White girl has no lows, lol. Your definition of lows must be pretty high, hehe.
  9. subs are in and sound amazing will have pics up tomorrow. so far taking 4200 clamped at 37hrts like a champ . cant wait for a little break in time. thay sound really good. hope to have it metered by monday.
  10. My son and I just got done swapping out amps to power my original Blue dust cap Icon 10. It was being powered by a Zed built Usacoustics USA2150 bridged and rated at 500 watts. I acquired an ESX 275.2 and honestly...I wasn't expecting a huge difference. We have the d2 Icon running bridged mode on the ESX. The rating for bridged mode is 825 watts. Quick rundown of the system..... HU- Eclipse CD8454 running 2 way active. Tweet amp- Usacoustics USA 2100 powering a set of Vifa XT25 ring radiators Mid amp- Usacoustics USA2150 powering a set of ID OEM's in a heavily dampened set of doors Sub amp as mentioned is an ESX 275.2 powering the Original blue cap Icon 10. The sub is in a box we built from the posted box diagrams here which I want to ad are fantastic. The setup is in an 04 Explorer. Not a small compact car by a long shot. Quite a bit of cabin to fill. The system sounded really good before but I found myself really dialing back my front stage because I didn't have enough bass to match the front stage. Well I more than have that now. It has changed the sound of my system entirely...At least it sounds like it to me. Sub is running up to 63 hz with a 24 db slope. Mids pick up there at 63 with the same slope and go up to 2.5with an 18 db slope. Tweets are crossed at 3.15 with a 24 db slope. We kept the everything crossover wise and slope but readjusted the levels to match up to the extra power on the sub. It's kinda strange to me how much better the sub is blending with the front stage now. It sounded great before but now...Holy $hit! I know the sub is back there because it sounds like my rear glass is gonna break but it pounds without localizing nearly as much as before. I just can't say enough good things about this sub. a powerhouse sq driver is hard to find....I found mine.
  11. I believe that was Cory's car. Great guy. The original Icon could still be my favorite. It is a little more finesse then the 2012 Icon, and was more efficient then the 2012 Icon. If you are happy with the original Icon, KEEP IT!!! Haha, I am the worst damn salesman, but yes, if you love it and it is getting it done, zero reason to change it. Side note: The upcoming Gcon, will be fairly close to the original Icon in terms of behavior, sound and enclosure preferences, with a little less power handling.

  13. Once the JL "latches" into one of it's "gears" (basically an adjustment of the rail voltage), it operates just like any other amplifier. Meaning if you connect a 2ohm load, the JL will "latch" into the "gear" for a 2ohm load, but from that point as the impedance of the speaker increases and decreases so will the output of the amplifier. It would be fairly undesirable to have an amp with truly constant power. For example, a subwoofer playing at or near Fb would be excessively overpowered if power output didn't drop with the increase in impedance. IIRC in the Carsound review the 1000/1 was only in the mid to high 60's for efficiency. Which isn't terrible, but not great either. The HD amps I believe are more efficient than the Slash series are.

I've had a couple of 12" Q's for a couple of years now. They're still about as stiff as they were from day one and still pound out the smoothest and cleanest bass I've had to date. Still the best purchase I've ever made in audio.
