buy or not to buy
2 pointsCheese is good with crackers, but potato chips dipped in maple syrup and fried in bacon grease will give you the shits for days. I once saw a turtle get in an arm wrestling match with a small mouth bass. Purple is the color most queers associate with gays, while lesbians will still eat meat even on tuna bread with cottage cheese. Asphalt.2 points

A well thought out 15" Mayhem build...
I am starting a build for a friend of mine. His goals are a decent amount of bass in a removable package. This will be installed in late model 4-runner. After talking with Brian (BKOLFO4) about some different single driver solutions that would have good output he suggested a single Mayhem 15, and well, kind of going to take his word for it. As for power, I bought a single Cresendo 3500, should be plenty of power. The 4-runner has a decent factory stereo (Nav and all that crap) so we wanted to keep what we could. I picked up one of the new Audio Control LC2i: http://www.audiocont...ol----LC2i.html because I am sick of PAC Trunk LOCs. They are POS's that are nothing but a headache. I only say this because I have installed about 10 of them. The LC2i also has a cool ciruit that defeats the factory compression of bass at higher levels... And remote turn on triggered by signal sense... Way cool. He also bought a 250 amp alt and plenty of 1/0 and a stout battery. So good there... Now, as for the box. This presents a few problems. It has to be small enough to fit behind the rear seat and we want to keep it below the window line. Brian suggested around 4ft3, I am going to go with that. A 30Hz tuning should work pretty good. Woofer and vent will fire back. 1.5" MDF construction, heavily braced. Inside will be heavily coated with Cascade Quiet Coat (I have 5 gallons left over) and outside will be proffesionally Line-X'd. Grill be solid PA style, steel with perforated holes and powder coated black. Will cover the entire back of the enclosure, flush with the cabinet. Now, if there is one thing I hate, it is mounted electronics to the enclosure. But with this install, everything needed to be removable. So the amp and LC2i will be mounted to the front of the enclosure (against the back seat) with these isolation devices: http://www.zorotools...e_Shopping_Feed I am going to countersink them into the cabinet about 3/8" of an inch, so they won't be very visible. I did a little research, these should help alot in the range of vibrations the enclosure will try and transfer to the amp. Since the amp is mounted verticle, I made sure the shear rating was adequate, didn't want them sagging over time. I'll use 6 on the amp and 4 on the LC2i. They will be attached to the cabinet with T-nuts from the inside via studs with LocTite. As for making everything removable quick via electrical connection, I am going with a single 5 pin Neutrik XLR: http://www.parts-exp...tnumber=092-328 for signal and 1/0 breakaways for power: http://www.parts-exp...tnumber=263-112 Nice thing is, for signal, I will use some 18/4 architechual cable with a nice braided jacket placed over it. It will look good and be simple and clean. There will only be the single break-away power connector and the single signal connector going to the box. 2 connections and your done... Anyway, just waiting on the Mayhem right now, I'll probably start the box in a week or so. I'll post pics as the build progresses. -Mike1 point

- The appropriate place for a volt meter?
wired right to the amp...knowing the voltage at the amp is more important then at the battery(to me anyways)1 point- The appropriate place for a volt meter?
My volt meter is not fused. I do believe you answered your own question, buy two. Mine is actually connected to the relay that powers amp/volt meter.1 point- Help with my front stage.
1 pointOne thing you should consider is the ex-anarchies are designed for sealed enclosures, or ported. Yes they can work in IB, ie: a door, but they may not excel compared to another driver geared towards that alignment. When I switched mine from the sealed kicks to the IB doors, midbass output was reduced by quite a bit. Just my experience.1 point- Welcome to the IHoP
1 pointCoyote traveled through the country, fighting monsters and making the world ready for the new people, the Indians who were to follow. He crossed the Cascade Mountains and came into the Puget Sound country. He was hungry, very hungry. He saw Crow sitting on the peak of a high cliff, with a ball of deer fat in his mouth. Coyote looked at Crow with this fat and thought how good it would taste. Becoming hungrier and hungrier, he wondered how he could get the fat for himself. He thought hard. Then he laughed. "I know what to do. I know how I can get the fat from Crow." Then coyote came close to the base of the cliff and called. "Oh, Chief! I hear that you can make a good noise, a pleasing noise with your voice. You are a big chief, I know. You are a wise chief, I have heard. Let me hear your voice, Chief. I want to hear you, Chief Crow." Crow was pleased to be called chief. So he answered, "Caw!" "Oh, Chief Crow," called Coyote, "that wasn't much. You can sing better than that. Sing a good song for me, Chief. I want to hear you sing loud." Crow was pleased again. So he opened his mouth wide and called from the cliff in a loud voice, "C-a-a-w!" Of course the ball of deer fat fell down from Crow's open mouth. Coyote grabbed it quickly. Then he laughed. "You are not a wise chief," said Coyote. "you are not a chief at all. I called you 'Chief' just to fool you. I wanted your deer fat. I am hungry. Now you can go hungry cecause of your foolishness."1 point- streetSPL,6/10/12, San Antonio,TX
Big congrats Danielle, that's an awesome feeling. It sounds like you have got the bug bad. Can you get some photo's and info on your install and send via email to mark @ soundsolutionsaudio . com, so we can add you to the team page.1 point- Austin863's X-WAGON Build

1 pointIt gets too big when the power you have and your settings kill the woofer. You can view port velocity in WinISD. And by power I mean your amplifier. Input the signal you have into WinISD, it will compute excursion, port velocity etc... based on it. Don't forget the EQ tab either. It does a lot of stuff and you should look at it all before making a decision. You've just found why most people fail at modeling programs. They don't ask the questions or try like you are. Keep it up! Your doing better than 99.9% of car audio forum goers!1 point- Welcome to the IHoP

1 pointThe little slave driver went home, I think is was his bed time. JK On with some pictures!!!!1 point- Help with my front stage.
1 pointYou'll likely have to get your hands dirty with some fiberglass to really get everything installed correctly, so when you do: UScomposites.com 435 Standard Polyester Layup Resin (Marine Grade Resin) includes catalyst (mekp) 3/4oz Chopped Strand Mat Aerosil-Cabosil They mixing containers: http://uscomposites.com/containers.html Also have a mekp bottle for making accurate ratios of mekp to resin. If you want to "cheat" for making the shape of what ever pod or panel you do, you can use their expanding foam, but you'll just have to "open up" the inside afterwards (which may or may not make things easier). Don't forget a bunch of cheap throwaway brushes, painter's tape, mold release spray, latex gloves, and a decent respirator. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. If/when you go to do it, let me know, and perhaps I can come up and help.1 point- streetSPL,6/10/12, San Antonio,TX

1 pointLike I had mentioned the RS225 isn't a drop-in driver replacement in any car door that I know of. You will have much louder and pronounced midbass with the RS225 in an enclosure. Like I said the enclosure would need to be large. I think there are better driver's available for your needs. Check out this thread. There is a 4" shootout here. There are other threads similar to these as well, you have to search around. You should start first with deciding where you are going to mount drivers. Definitely doors?1 point- 2 12inch ssa zcons

1 point- got a O-scope now how do i use it?
You can set up your gains however you like with a DMM or an O'scope. Problem is, if you change anything, and I mean anything in the signal chain, it is all a mute point. If you set for visible cliping with an O'scope then you have to be 100% sure that is the same signal you play after you calibrate. I.E. if you set it with a sine wave, it is only good for a sine wave at that exact level. Music is much more dynamic than a sine and it is tough to see visible clipping with music. If you set with a DMM you need to know the exact impedance. You can't do this with a single DMM. And even if you know the exact impedance, you have a tolerance given by the manufacturer for output power that cannot be used with confidence for setting up a clipping threshold. Also, a small amount of clipping doesn't hurt a thing. In fact full clipping doesn't hurt anything as long as you stay under the manufacturers thermal ratings (assuming the ratings are not inflated). You need to fully realize how this works though... So in a nut shell, don't turn the volume knob up too far, this will keep you from blowing things up. If you can't follow this, trade your amp in for one that is no more than 1/2 the RMS rating of the subwoofer and never worry about a thing...1 point- 99 4runner, 3WMD2 18'S...OPTI6000D

Got another little update for you all. This one was suppose to be part of the orignal build, but once things got rolling, if it wasn't ready, it got passed up. :\ Well this update was one of those things that the build couldn't be without. With out further ado lets proceed in adding a little accent lighting to the box. Here is what I started off with. A pair of project boxes and battery connectors from Radio Shack, LED strips from the local auto parts store and some 9 volt batteries. Instead of hard wiring everything in I opted to put a juction. I started off with one of these strips. I cut the strip down to what I needed. Here is a test fit of how everything packages in to the project box. I added one of these cushion thingies to the project box lid to keep the 9 volt battery from working back and forth when everything is mounted up and going. Here is a shot of everything in place. Here is the what the finished box looks like. o_O Here is the backside with the mounting hardward protruding through. Also a little test to make sure everything is working as planned. I mounted the boxes under the amp to keep everything looking nice and tidey. Now the hard work, getting the sub out and out of the way to get into the box. Dang these bishes are heavy. I wish they'd offer a neo version of this beast. Hint, hint! Here is the LED strip in place. I got the wiring thought the box. As an added measure of security I added dabs of hot glue to keep the LED strip in place. Here is a shot of the LEDs in action.1 point- One of our client's cars.

1 pointIf your playing bass, and it's loud enough, I believe it's simply shaking your eye balls, and blurring vision. I don't see how a "high frequency", or any frequency sound wave could improve vision in a way that allows you to pick up and focus on individual spokes on a moving car. Perhaps the weed is slowing everything down for you?1 pointAccount
