- Anyone else into some Minotaur amps yet?
Sadly I originally built these subs for a friend who was going to run them in a big wall with 4K each (we had discussed upping to 8K ea) so I built them very stiff. Also dual 1.4 ohm coils has the Minotaurs seeing 4ohm + 98% of their useable bandwidth. On the bright side, each Minotaur into 3 ohm nominal load, it's only about 1.5 dB off of an American Bass 500.1 @ .7 ohm nominal (The JBL developed problems in the input section the day I finished this box). Certainly sounds the same to the ear. I have them fused @ 40A and can't blow a fuse as it sits, so really very efficient for the output I'm getting. Believe it or not, I'm not really trying to chase numbers right now. I wanted to do a 150 and did that last winter and it sounded like dirt. I'm looking to just be able to play music as long as I like really loud and not have to worry about an amp that's 300$ to ship when I blow it and will burn up 800$ worth of MOSFETs " I've been dumping money into bad silicone like a 35 year old stripper the last couple years. In truth for what I've spent repairing big ass surfboard amps in the last 2 years I could have already owned 4 of these and not had to worry about a repair yet.2 points- Torres Box Tuning Calculator
2 pointsThanks for your work! You have the best calculator that I have come across.2 points- So, I heard Skar can handle some power...
Why did you downgrade? Apparently I'm an idiot, ha. My thought process. "ERMAGERD A SALE. ON A BRAND I'VE HEARD GREAT THINGS ABOUT KINDA. I ONLY HAVE 1 12. LET'S DO TWO." ...and that about sums it up. :l Don't worry, we've all done this with some kind of product before. There's a learning curve behind every thing.2 points- So, I heard Skar can handle some power...
I heard they were so underrated they can take 8635w on music all day.2 points- SAZ-1500D v.3 / SAX-125.4 Pre-Orders

Really the price per watt of these held me back for a while (that and the Crown 6K that I picked up last year), but I've gotta say, since these came out I've spent more in repairs and blowing up crappy chinese and Korean amps than these ended up costing me. I have still to do more testing, but initial impressions are "run don't walk!" and get you some of these. If you're wanting 1000W range they're worth the extra cost for the crossover and EQ options, and if you want more power, they're worth the reliability. I haven't had a far East built amp >1200W last me more than 6 or 7 months yet.1 point- 6 15"s 4th order bandpass, redumb loud.

I know I don't need to turn my HU up on my 4300DVD unit. Mine is set to 0 while the gain is at little half way.1 point- Team SSAudio 2011 Mustang

1 pointMy fuzzy, trusty and lovable pup, Ferdinand just turned 13 today. He has been with me through it all and back. Not to mention he is the SSA mascot. Happy birthday little buddy.1 point- Happy 13th Birthday Ferdinand
1 pointHe is still very happy and active. Some how he has bounced back from a fairly serious skin issue, a slipped disc, kidney stone and a heart mummer. One of my favorite pix I have taken:1 point- Anyone else into some Minotaur amps yet?
I about forgot that Woofersetc and SSA stores sell Zed amps. Talking to Stephen is always good for learning something and a few laughs though... Sometimes I think I buy these just for an excuse to call him up and chat for a bit. JBL/Crown developed a problem in the input section. Cost me a hair under 300$ just to ship it out for repair..... NOBODY is jelly of that. Crown will be up for sale after it's been repaired. I really enjoyed it, but if Minotaur goes bad I can ship for < 30$ and I know Stephen will take care of me on warranty and even outside warranty it would be a cheaper fix than most of the Korean 3K's It's pretty musical as it sits now, I'm just looking for more passanger friendly. Amps strapped, each strapped pair driving 3 coils in series for 4.2 nominal load. With the in/out options on these amps it is VERY easy to slave all to one. I also ordered another Minotaur yesterday since I now own 5 neo sig motors, so 5 of something may be in my future as well.1 point- when it rains...it pours

Put them all "flat" or at 0 before setting the gain. Don't put them up after either.1 point- Cablguy184's 97 Chevy Silverado
1 pointI've had no problems ordering from him (for my personal vehicles and the business I send his way) ... The products work great even in bad weather conditions, So I have no complaints about Mike or his products ... But as far as what he does and how he has his company set up ... Thats not for me to answer Send him an email and he will call and talk to you personally. He's very knowledgeable with his products ... I'm almost positive that Mike will be with me at MECA World Finals ... We plan on entering my truck in the night glow competition if they have it this year ... Again ... Thanks bro Randal1 point- Put some lowering springs on the BISHI!

good thing kevin popped in to share some of his thoughts about all this1 point- IAK needs an "IHOP"
1 pointI've decided to change my equipment. The idea at the moment is multiple entry level 12" subs, either 6 or 8. Thinking SSA Dcons & a single Crescendo BC3500 or BC5500. The change is to show people what entry level equipment is capable of & to support SSA.1 point- KnuKonceptz Sound deadener? Kno Knoise.
Most of the products I've had from them weren't good at all, they were pretty obviously extremely cheap and lower quality in their design and construction, though their customer service was top notch. Just glancing at the page, assuming they used a quality buytl compound designed to actually function as a constrained layer damper it should be fine although there isn't enough information on the website to determine how effectively it actually performs as a CLD. The price seems relatively in-line with comparable products. However, I will also say that there is more to being a quality provider of sound deadening than selling a good product. They also need to have the experience and technical understanding to be able to assist customers in their purchase and application of the product to allow them to achieve their goals in the most efficient, effective and cost effective manor. I doubt anyone in the industry will ever be able to match Don in that arena, which is why he'll continue to be the only person/company/product I'll recommend. What have you bought from Knu that wasn't good quality? I know that some of their rca's have been known to fail, and their battery terminals suck in my opinion. I haven't had any issues with their power wire.1 point- So, I heard Skar can handle some power...

I would take the W3's over the skars without question. Not bashing skar either.1 point- So, I heard Skar can handle some power...

1 point1 point- two speakers, deaden those two doors or all 4?
It's actually entirely up to you. Putting sound deadener on the rear doors isn't going to directly affect the sound of the components in the front doors the same way deadening the front doors will. However, depending on the degree to which you're planning on deadening the door it could make a difference in road noise, which can have an affect on the overall noise floor in the vehicle. If all you're planning on doing is putting Dynamat on without any use of closed cell foam (CCF) or mass loaded vinyl (MLV) then there's really no sense at all spending the money on putting the Dynamat CLD on your rear doors IMHO since CLD does nothing to stop noise, only panel resonance. Now if you were planning on utilizing the entire spectrum of products (CLD, CCF, & MLV) then I would definitely recommend deadening the rear doors. That will help stop panels from rattling (CCF does that), and block road noise (MLV does that) as well which helps lower the noise floor and make the entire audio experience that much more enjoyable. Hope this helps.1 point- anybody familiar with this amp or brand?
That's why I believe this very subject is one of the BEST purposes behind this and any other forum online, no matter what it's basis. Forums, although they can easily be wrought with more false information than not, are a great way for the beginners to read, study and learn about the companies that make products that are respectable and the ones who should never be trusted. The BEST part about his forum is that no matter who the correct information pisses off, it's ALWAYS available to read, and I suppose as long as the information was in the right context even if it was false. It's also my belief that those of us who are, or would be considered veterans in the hobby have a right and a duty to help inform those young kids to help keep them from getting flim-flammed in the first place. Even if they don't listen, getting the bug in their ear, or the doubt in their mind will help to shape their choices at some point in the future. In a perfect world those companies wouldn't exist because no one would buy their products. That will never happen, but if at least one person reads a thread like this, understands it, and doesn't help support companies that out right lie about their products then I feel we and the forum have done our jobs. Sorry for the rant guys.1 point- ShiZZZoN's Build #2 The Epicness of 2011-2024

1 pointIf your looking at aero ports take a look at this link and play with the numbers a bit to see if anything works for you. I'll be using an aero in my next box from the little I know using aeros sometimes helps keep the box a bit smaller also here's the link http://www.psp-inc.com/tools.html1 point- First wall in the WaGoN! 4 15" DCONs... :)
Heres the bedliner on the hood only. and also, heres a pic of crazy spring break. Haha. Im on the right.1 point- SAZ-1500, removing or modifying protection circuit?
But anyway... if you won't believe what a company has to say don't post in their section. The SAZ-1500D v.1 is not protect happy at all at 0.5 ohm -- perhaps you should ask yourself why that is... and the amp still has a protect circuit so it is not just bypassed. 1 pointWow M5, I wouldn't have an attitude if you would quit talking negative all the time. I do have a few questions for you though, Do you compete? Have you ever been to a World Finals event?? Have you ever been on stage with some of the best competitors in the world? Do you know what its like for your "under $4000.00" systen actually beat some of the best competitors in the business? Has a person on your team set a World Record number in spl competition? Can your system play notes under 25 htz? I can answer yes to all of these questions. Can you?1 point - Anyone else into some Minotaur amps yet?
