  1. When you turn up bass boost or the EQ from your head unit you are asking the amplifier to double, triple, or quadruple or more the power for a very narrow set of frequencies (typically 45 htz or so for bass boost). Unless you have tons of headroom from your amp, and most people don't, it sends a very clipped signal which can cause your subs (or other speakers) to fail. Don't boost, cut.
  2. Sorry, I prefer this...
  3. Doing ok here, Sandy is supposed to come right at us later tonight. Power is still on here and I have loads of vodka left.
  4. I don't mind since they are good pictures Same weekend as first pic posted, only 1000ft lower: If the weather sucks, always remember that somewhere, up on a mountain top, the weather is a zillion times nicer
  5. make another thread
  6. I've already started looking into hotels. Thanks NEM for the info you sent me!
  7. Bass boost should never be used. It introduces clipping which is not good for the amp or the sub. You are on the right track setting your gain by ear, but when you adjust things after you set it that is where you are going wrong. What kind of enclosure?

i cant even think of anything funny to say because the idea is just stupid.
  10. what if i did a blackwood, then i would change all the trim inside to black wood aswell.
  11. What you are trying to do is called a manifold enclosure. They are used in HT. you can model them using horn response.
  12. How come you'd choose two 12's sealed over two 15's sealed? Because I'm a bad motherfucker and I like having some trunk space.
  13. Not going to happen. They'd be losing money.
  14. Last night must have been college night, we knew of one bus, but at one point there were 4. From different colleges too and they told us they had another run for Saturday night lined up! So we are hoping for a huge night tonight!!
  15. Another awesome night for spookhaven!
  16. You can estimate shipping and tax in the SSA store. Take the Skar out of the equation.
  17. Sounds to me like the ssa gcon is what you need. http://store.soundsolutionsaudio.com/products/gcon-12-sound-solutions-audio-12-750w-gcon-series-subwoofer.html

You're new so here's a good starting point for you: component speakers for your front stage sub in the back 1 four channel amp: front channels pushing the components, rear channel bridged pushing the sub. This isn't the "best" system, but it's a good balance for people new to the hobby.
  19. Dude, don't knock it until you try it. I always said I didn't need it, and I don't, but a buddy of mine said I had to try some, and he gave it to me. I had it sitting around for ages and decided to try it one night. I don't think my old lady was able to walk for a couple days. I gave one to a young friend of mine for his wedding night a couple weeks ago. His new wife called me and thanked me profusely... My source goes out of the country a lot and gets it over the counter for $1 a pill. I do minor shit on his car as maintenance for no charge and he hooks me up with a ton of it for free. Cool. I bet you will drink a case of beer and blow a .00 in 15 minutes.

Eliminating the 5 tweeters and horn would be a good first step.

First, your system needs entirely redesigned. That's not a good system layout at all. Second, how do you have them wired? I would agree with jay-cee that it's likely you are simply overdriving the internal amplifier in the headunit. Even then I wouldn't recommend an amp, first I would recommend you eliminate 60% of your speakers.

Yeah, that's bad. You should go to www.bcae1.com and do some research. You really need to start over.

Sorry guy, but your system sounds like a total mess. I think it's time to pull everything and start over from scratch. Not trying to be a jerk.
  24. I wouldn't count on it. It may happen. SSA being a small company, they cannot afford to give away items. Last years "outrageous deals" seemed to be more of a hassle rather then a good thing.
