  1. The rustbucket Miata on the track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg4YGLXk-Y0 Fun times, I can't wait for the next event...
  2. I prefer white or black cars. I have had numerous red cars though. I think that's subconscious for my love of Ferrari. As for the auto, it shifts quicker than I can and this will be my only car so if I ever hurt my left leg, I can still drive. . . And I'm sick of shifting.
  3. *Pulls BFG 9000 out of closet* Let's try this.
  4. I would be happy with it, if thats what your asking. With the transfer function of the car you should be right on point, and the sub should blend well with the mids. Youre gaining 6db output in the sweet spot, WITHOUT needing any additional power. Whats not to like about that?
  5. Yes, it's HUGE! LOL!

You should stop using the term sound quality as you have no idea what it means. All the benefits of doubling the number of drivers can easily go out the window using two completely different amps.
  7. 1 point
No, you should surely NOT do that. Don't mismatch amps on subs. If you have 2 make them identical. It will be a hot mess otherwise.

Yea some around here don't respect another man's opinion, and feel their opinion's are facts, which they are not to anyone but them. But it's all good. And those mmats are hard to beat, even if it's not their top model. That's still a $600-$700 amp new, and I guarantee it will have some great sq, and probably get pretty loud if you want it to.

Your welcome, and yes MMats is one of the best made, even there second best series of amps are nice. If my 13w7 wasn't 3ohm, that's what I would Be using.

And what measurement do they use to measure time domain (milleseconds)? I think I'm understanding this right.
  13. -1 points
I'm over my head in what I'm reading. (Frequency domain/time domain), I'm trying to understand it but it's some complex stuff to figure out on your own, without someone dumbing it down for you.

Just reading up on the subject. A guy had me tune his system last night and when I was setting his crossovers he asked me about the frequency/hertz thing and what it meant. I knew it was concerning the frequency but didn't know exactly how. Poor guy had his amp gain at 100%, bass boast at 0, sub cut off at 350 htz. I turned the gain to about 60%, cut the sub off at 60htz, and set the bass boost to about 25%. Sounded a lot less distorted and lower, even for a crunch 3000.1, and Memphis subs, the thin series.

I usually don't either, but with his old cheap setup it just sounded better with it. We turned all his eq's to flat, and turned the loudness off and adjusted gains, eq's, and everything first, then we dialed it in to how he liked it from there. I didn't turn it up much, just a click or two but it sounded a 100% better, he had it all messed up.

Yea it's not the ideal thing to do but if your on a tight budget and not worried about sound quality it will work. I took a friends sub and amp out of his car and stuck them in mine at a competition and went up 2db. We both had the same size kickers but I was running A US2000X and he was running a big kicker amp. Obviously it didn't sound right but loud it was. Lol

I said it wasn't ideal, but could yield more spl. And yes I know what sq is, I have heard world champion cars with $100k setups. But I assume anyone buying $100 subs, and using what they already have is going for more output doesn't care as much about sq. well that and he asked how to get more output. Sometimes I think you care to much about perfect music reproduction, and not enough about how to get loud cheap. You would be amazed what hillbilly's can do with some duct tape, and bailing wire.

Funny, you have only seen one Install, just threw in a car in 10 minutes, so how is that many? And like I said before, I just sold my old ford and bought a new one. Some of us work for a living and don't have 7 years, and 7k to do every install, especially the one's we barely ever listen to, as in my wife's avenger. And as far as the Amps having that much delay, I don't see it, and I'm sure as long as the subs where in the exact same boxes, tuned the exact same way, it would yield a slightly better db, at least audibly anyways. He could always slide one box a little closer if it was slower to respond if that's possible. And like I said, I done the same thing years ago, and gained 2db, yes it sounded like poo, but who cares when all your trying to do is get louder for free. I have seen m5 tell people with $300 dollar systems, they needed $1000's in equipment to test with, not everybody is that worried about perfection, some just want to be as loud as possible as cheap as possible, now of course that's not everyone here, some do have the funds to do it right, but I'm assuming anyone trying to use used amps, and $100 soundqubed subs, isn't worried as much about perfect response, as much as they just want more output. Have you guys never ran 2 similar amps of different brands just for break in before cause I have and was suprised at the results. For a temporary setup until the man could afford a better bigger amp or matching amps it would be fine. Ow, and it's a online forum, if you don't like someone's opinion, that's fine, but why the hostility and name calling, that serves no one.

Actually, yes that does help. Thank you. And m5, dude has a $20 dollar system, litterely that's what he gave for the entire thing, so a cheap crunch amp isn't gonna sound to good, no matter how much you adjust. And like I said, I set it up, then just gave it a click or two to help it be a little louder, cause that's what he wanted. I knew if I didn't clip it a little and give him as much output as possible, he would crank the gain up and burn his stuff up, so I gave him about as much as I could without burning anything up. If 2 little clicks of bass boost burns anything up, it wasn't going to make it anyways.

No sand here bro! Just thinks it's funny you haven't even seen a install I have done (the avenger wasn't a install) and still act like you know anything about what my actual time consuming installs do look like. And I will say one thing I don't destroy a car to install a house stereo in it the way you guys do. Some nice kick panels, or some custom boxes, with amp racks hiding all the wires, and some decent highs, mids, made for a car are just fine by me. These days even off axis in the stock locations can sound damn good. I know you guys like to be hipsters and use raw drivers and run active but it's to damn much trouble you spend more time trying to get it right then you do actually enjoying the music. If that's what you like that's fine but don't hate on me because I take the easy way.

    That's a good idea. Lol

400 watts, 6db more would take a 100 watt amp 4times it power. Lol I really hope your also kidding with this stuff!

You win! Your response was far more cleaver then anyone else's. You even included the word nuts. Lmao, about time someone on ssa had a sense of humor. Thank you sir, you made my day.

I wish I could make the brown note, that's would be the bees knee's. I would drive straight to a Hilary rally, and make the few people that didn't already have a load in their pants, fill them full!

Well I will tell you what it did. It added a little punch to that wave, and brought the gain up to where it should be. For what ever reason, just gain didn't give it that much punch, so I turned the gain down a few clicks, and raised the boost and gave it a nice tight punch. Best $20 dollar system I ever heard. It's a 3000 watt crunch, 2 Memphis slims in a 3.0 cubic foot box ported, with a Sony head unit, and and 2 61/2's in the front doors.
  29. Processing is a mini and mids are seas er18s. Cant speak on his mounting locations.
  30. Do you have any details on the Davis you have? Internet > me atm.
  31. To clarify, I am wondering if it isn't a location installation you are battling and not the tweeter. Understanding what you don't like about it will help too. I know you said output...but crossing that high it doesn't take all that much really.
