Posted February 3, 201015 yr First of all, I'd like to thank the staff at SSA and Sundown Audio for putting up with my constant stream of questions and for getting this thing out so fast. After getting this one I'm looking forward to getting the 100.4, it must be a beast too. I can't get over how much heavier the Sundown is than my Hifonics. Based on weight alone I don't know how the Hifonics had enough power supply to it to produce 2kW and I know it wasn't. Thanks again to SSA and Sundown and now for a few pics.Too cool, individually tested before they're shipped!
February 4, 201015 yr Author Thanks guys! I can't wait for the weather to improve so I can get my amp rack rebuilt and listen to what the Q's sound like on it. The Hifonics amps have such a dirty sound to them, I'm looking forward to listening to some quality amplification both for the subs and the components.
February 4, 201015 yr Nice, I constantly pepper Jacob with questions and he answers them in timely manner without fail. I always recommend sundown to anyone looking for good quality car audio.
February 4, 201015 yr Ya I always wondered how sundown compared to hifonics?? I am on my second hifonics amp, I like them but I have heard much otherwise, and now that I have a quality subwoofer aka ssa xcon I was curious to exactly how much better sundown is compared to hifonics? Not as in watts output but in the actual sound quality itself.
February 4, 201015 yr Author Thanks fan, I'm glad to finally have something worth the purchase!Small Town, I don't know what you think of your Hifonics or what you have had to compare them to but I was never impressed with mine. I've had a BXi2006D and a ZXi6006 for a few years now and when I first bought them I liked them alot. Then I went to some car shows, listened to amps from Zapco, Audison, Arc Audio, Image Dynamics, and many other good brands. The guys were cool enough to let me hear their cars on music I was VERY familiar with and it about took my breath away. Now, there's many many diffrences between mine and their systems including the speakers themselves, the installations and everything so it wasn't an apples to apples comparison. However, after getting home I could hear a difference I can only describe as grainy. I took my O-scope and started playing with the system and sure enough, the distortion starts climbing on the Hifonics amps long before they're maxed out. I then referrenced my system with a friend's all Boston Acoustics setup, swapping out amps between the vehicles and everything. It was then I realized exactly what the difference in quality really is. I was actually hearing the small amount of distortion at moderate volume levels and when compared to the quiet, controlled sound of the Boston amp the Hifonics amps sounded like crap. I was hell bent on getting new ones after that and now I'm almost there.
February 4, 201015 yr Well thank you now I just gotta wait forever to get a sundown. i'm broke until mid-summer to fall
February 5, 201015 yr Author Thanks watts, I will as soon as the temps get better, body filler and figerglass resin don't do well in freezing temperatures from what I understand.I wasn't worried Denim just hoped the guys at work didn't do anything unusual with it.More pictures will be up when the 100.4 gets here and the other goodies (1500D and SA-8's when they ship ) and of course the build log when the weather gets good enough.
February 12, 201015 yr Author Okay guys, got the 100.4 today! Here's the pics as promised.Notice the Fi hoody there, Fi FTW!Gotta love that these are individually tested before shipping!Ahhhh... Now for the SA-8's and the SAZ-1500 to arrive, I'll be in car audio heaven!

February 22, 201015 yr Author Hi guys! It's been too cold to work on anything still, and this weekend we had better temps but the 'ol lady had me busy doing other things like buying and moving a new couch, cleaning up outside, etc. I did find some time to get the kids out to meet for the first time and let them play together a little, snapped a few pics during the play date. Sorry for the lack of quality in the pics though, stupid cell cam.I'm also pretty sure this is the first time I got a pic of both Q's at the same time.Hopefully the next time I post any pics it will be of the rebuild log.
February 27, 201015 yr Author WOOOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!!!!I got my "used" SAX-125.2 to run the 6.5" PG RSD's in my Jimmy today. Thing is, I can't tell it's EVER been used. No scratches at all, no dings, hell I can't even find where it was ever even mounted (no scratches in paint at mounting locations). I ordered it direct from Jacob and all I can say is WOW, Jacob YOU ARE THE MAN! I never imagined I could buy something used that looks this much like it was never used and with a 1 year warranty to top it off. I can't wait to see the "used" SAZ-1500 I'll be getting with the SA-8's.On to a few pics.Tested twice, apprently it's nearly a year old.See, no sign of being screwed down and mounted. The other three locations are just as clean. Not a single scratch or ding on the top, and if you notice the white spot in the lower right of the picture it was just a spec. I brushed it off right after I noticed it in the picture. Here's the bottom scratch free as well.As you can see, Jacob sure treated me right on this one. THANK YOU MAN!!
