haha well i would rather get one 15 because of the price...and it being a btl...but i'm not sure how it would hit upper bass notes (i think i have my LPF at around 80 or 90)

The two twelves have more cone area than a 15, it is car dependant but typically it will be louder than a single 15. Subbass should never be that high, seems like you're lacking midbass, work on your front stage.

Right now i have 2 10" type r's in a prefab ported box and they are pretty loud. how much louder would 1 15" btl be in a ported box tuned for spl? would there be a night and day difference between the two?

481L of cargo capacity means shit! If you built a 481L box would you be able to fit it into the trunk? Prolly not. Get a tape and do some homework. Measure your trunk. If you cant do that then there is no help we can give you.

To answer your question, yes 1 15" BL would be "better" then your 10's if you have the space to give them a proper enclosure.

There are people who spend thousands to gain a few tenths on the meter, so if $200 is worth the gain in output is up to you. Either way if you only have 1500 watts just get 2 SSDs or one BL, this will save you even more money. I'd go 2 SSDs because from your experience level you'll be better off with 2 subs sharing that power. If you plan to upgrade your power down the road by all means do BLs, but with your current amp they aren't necessary.
