Keeping true to form at Fi we have an industrial application that uses these 4.500" NdFeB "pads" and felt that the trickle down to car audio might be in order for them.

The first iteration uses 3 of them and simply has more Gauss than the 3" pole can handle.

Coil has a very healthy inductance/heat ring with external fins for cooling and keeps the heat out of the magnets (which seems to be a problem with some other car audio designs).

In playing with this proto it is definitely geared towards SPL, given the motor force.

Let us know what you think. Im hoping its not too out of the ordinary to be marketable... as it truly performs.

Thanks,

Scott

  • Sexy Scott! Have you ever thought that you might be Midas? Because it seems like everything you touch, turns into absolute gold!

Somewhat spur of the moment, this sub was made as a “what if”. We already have the magnets and magnetizing fixture for them, so we figured a way to integrate them into a car audio application that se

Did some thermal testing on Friday with it. Im happy with the results so far, but I just finished coding another sink for this one and will machine it tomorrow (if I can get time on one with BTL part

that looks crazy as hell. i like it!!

Any specs on it yet?

Its interesting for sure. looks different than the other neo motors. Good job!

I want one!!!!!! That is a very interesting design. I was always wondering when you guys where goining to come out witha new modle. I would buy one

Any CAD drawings? This looks weird but I could give a shit less about what the motor looks like if it performs outstandingly.

Agreed. I like information regarding performance, not flashy pictures. I am into what it does, not how it looks... or I would have a car full of Audiobahn :suicide-santa: .

Nah..true to form the day it is available for sale all specs and everything will be released on the website.

We're more curious then anything as to what people think about this first iteration. :)

How are people supposed to tell you what you what they think if they don't know anything about it? :P

It looks interesting, but given that's about all we know it's hard to say anything else. I'm guessing with the high motor force we're looking at a low Q ported-only driver similar to the BTL?

Post some vids of this thing working.

Scott said this one would be geared more towards SPL in the original post...big motor force etc..

Without having tons of issues with having neo right beside a 350+++ degree coil...the billet aluminum that we machined and put on the inside of the arrangement aids as a MONSTER inductance ring on top of a HUGE heat sink mass that will radiate heat away from the coil/magnets where typical neo designs are placed right beside the coil...

This is our take on it for car audio I suppose :) Just seeing what people think about it..initial reactions etc :)

Low inductance makes me happy!

mmmm... Powa!

I now know Scott is Midas.!

I don't suspect there will be any problem selling them, that is pretty sure. Based on the stark appearance difference, I would guess that would sell a bunch alone. Not to mention it appears to be much shallower then another high end SPL leaning driver you guys are building. ;)

it looks like a machine that could pave the way for the future of pure bass audio i want one :woot:

Woofer porn. :wackit:

I'm rather interested to see some specs too..

Anyone wanna bet on the RMS and peaks?

Edited by Nick_W

i'm going to say an rms of 3200 and peak of 12000

Just curious; Since I'm assuming this would be more expensive than the drivers in your current line-up, what benefits does this arrangement provide to the end user? Better thermal performance (with the shorting ring/heatsink & side gaps) and higher motor force than the current drivers?

I would foresee a lot of these drivers being inverted :)

EDIT: I also think you should build a higher Q underhung version for us SQ guys :P Just stick those tall towers on top of the Neo instead of under it and shorten/lower the coil some :D

x2 all that and especially bolded. lol.

Not a thing we can't do sir :)

We've got our own machine shop!

I do like the looks of a new design, but T/S specs interest me more :D

X2 on Scott being King Midas!

It's new! Neo is the all the rage for SPL. I think this would sell out fast!

I vote some T/S parameters as well!

Btw it looks absolutely sic!
