Posted September 1, 201015 yr I just purchased an SSA DCON 12S4, and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. It will be driven with an Orion XTR 375.2, getting about 400 watts RMS. Components will be Dayton Audio RS180's driven by an Arc Audio FD2100, and Morel MDT-12's driven off of an Audio Art 70.2. The source unit is a Pioneer DEH-P880PRS.The sub will be installed in a 2002 Ford F250 Crew Cab. I do not want the enclosure sitting up on the seat, so I will be building a custom L shaped box that will sit right behind the center console up onto the middle of the rear seat, with the sub firing up, as well as the vent.Basically I listen to all kinds of music. Hip Hop, Rock, Reggae, Country, Oldies, Jazz, etc., etc. I am sure the output will be more than enough moving up from 2 Arc Audio 8's, and I want it to sound super clean. I am just wondering what those of you with experience with this sub think I should do for the enclosure. How many cubes? What frequency should I tune it to? Should I polyfill it?Thanks in advanced fellas!
September 1, 201015 yr Admin Check out the suggested box sizes. If you can fit 2 cubes at 32hz, that would be a great start for the Dcon 12. If not, go a little smaller around 1.75.
September 1, 201015 yr Author Thanks Denim. I believe I can get 2 cubes after displacement. The rear cab of the super crews are pretty huge. So 2 cubes tuned to 32Hz will get me the cleanest sound possible, out of a ported box, from your experience???Anybody else feel free to chime in with your thoughts. Thanks again
September 1, 201015 yr Admin You can go smaller in volume as the Dcon's thrive in small ported boxes. We tend to prefer, when porting, keeping the SSA drivers in the high 20's-low 30's.
September 1, 201015 yr I have a DCON 10" and it really comes to life in a ported enclosure imo. You will be amazed at the output and accuracy of this driver!
September 1, 201015 yr Author I do appreciate your input 98GMC and Denim. I am still wondering exactly how big and what frequency I should tune it to, expecting the cleanest sound possible, with 400 RMS.Clean and accurate are what I'm looking for. I'm sure the output will be more than enough. And yes I do want it ported as you fellas suggested
September 1, 201015 yr With your musical preferences and style of vehicle I would tune in the 30-32 hz range.
September 1, 201015 yr Author Thanks 98GMC. I will shoot for 32Hz. Should I go 1.75, 2, 2.25 cubes???
September 2, 201015 yr Admin 2.0 is plenty. you can always make the internal air space smaller with blocks if you want.
September 2, 201015 yr Author Ok, so here is what I have drawn up. The box will sit between the rear seat and center console, and rest upon the rear seat. Let me know if my math is correct. I am using online calculators, and could be way off.Box Volume will be 2.72 cubic feetSub Displacement will be 0.14 cubesPort Displacement will be 0.51 cubesNet Volume will be 2.07 cubesPort will be 2" wide, 16.5" tall, and 27" long tuned to 32Hz.My link Edited September 2, 201015 yr by THASQGOTME
September 2, 201015 yr Author Anbody that knows their shit about enclosures, wanna chime in? I am good with wood, but I do not want to build the wrong enclosure. Thanks.
September 2, 201015 yr Author Make sure you click on the link to see the enclosure design. I will do a build log, as soon as I'm positive about the enclosure dimensions.
September 3, 201015 yr Your enclosure volume is less then what you stated, and the port might not work. The way the enclosure and port is configured there will be more then likely dead space along the port on the top of the box that wont count in the box volume. The port also is ending right at the bend which might make it act funny. Not to mention you more then likely wont be able to mount the sub where you have it in the pic.
September 4, 201015 yr Author That is why I needed some help bro. Bromo, do you think you could help me work up an enclosure that will work? I can go higher than 21", but the width and length cannot change. I would mean a lot to me if you could help me out brother. Thanks
September 6, 201015 yr Admin Bromo, you have to put your ECC logo or at least the little banner Mark made on those pictures, so no one steals the design. In case anyone does not know what I am talking about, Bromo has recently started an enclosure design brand. You can check out some of the work here: Eclectic Enclosure Designs

September 6, 201015 yr Author Bromo, I am a bit confused. Is this an enclosure you wanted to sell me? Or is it something you were just going to draw up for a brother? I'm good with wood, not enclosure dimensions, and there are none on the above picture Thanks buddy
September 6, 201015 yr I think he was just showing the design if you liked it, then if you did get you the dimensions, and maybe a small fee, or free i dont know how he works. But best of luck with it all! Should be a nice setup!!
