Posted July 5, 201114 yr So on the weekend I decided to install my little brother sound system with him in his 1996 ford escort and I thought I would toss on a few pics! First the equipment.Box design: by Ram, also a member on this forumhttp://www.ram-designs.com/quote.php Voltmeter: from Shizzzon Sub: SA12 d2 from Jacob as being sold as Used, B-Stock, Refurbished Amps, and MISC (some of you may recognize the title) Amp: SAZ1000 reburb from db-rH/U: JVC Arsenal KD-AHD79 from crutchfieldhttp://www.crutchfield.com/s_105KDAHD79/JVC-Arsenal-KD-AHD79.html?tp=5684Wiring: all from KNUSwitch: 12vdc 10ampA little more info my little brother build and colored the box completely. I just helped with the sub hole, and wiring the sub/ system. O and the voltmeter is a non-adjusting voltmeter with an auto dimmer! so basically plug it in and you are good to rock and roll, unlike those stinger ones which are always to damn bright and some times you have to calibrate them with the POD. The only down side to the voltmeter that I picked up is I had to wire in a switch to turn it off and on which isn't a big deal but the newer ones that shizzzon is selling have a remote turn on lead! I also didn't do the big 3 to my little brother car as it was holding 13volts minimum at full tilt! so I didn't feel he needed it. (knock on wood) I think he did a pretty good job! and with that enjoy the pics and please pass on any and all comments! Car offand some of wiring picsthanks for viewing! also for those wondering if you remove the rear seat and fold down the backs of the rear seats you can make a WALL very easily! with 100inch plus back to front with about 38wide and whatever tall! lol! good times! you can kind a see it in this picture! and we didn't have any two-way tape at the time so we could tape the voltmeter to the bottom of the ash tray
July 5, 201114 yr Author believe it or not it is pretty loud and low! the box is 2ft^3 tuned to 30hz,as for the ground it is working so I am happy with it! lol! what would you rather I do with the ground?
July 5, 201114 yr like i said i bet it is.... i have a question.. why port up sub up? i would only think back/back would be lower... did you try it and it not work out?? ground... big three with the rear ground right to the frame...
July 5, 201114 yr Brings back memories, had an Escort GT with 8-12s in a wall. Install looks great!!! I would suggest the Big 3 for good measure.
July 5, 201114 yr Author umm big 3 I see your point jon! maybe that will be the new weekend project lol! as for positioning of the sub well I told him to toss it sub and port shooting back but when I got there the box was already in and the amp was mounted where it is now so I just said screw it it should be loud enough and it is for him so I am not worried about it. thanks for your comments and help! Kenneth
July 5, 201114 yr I like that color scheme on the box. I bet he's much happier now with some good bass in the Escort.
July 5, 201114 yr Author ya funny story with all the bass he killed his other 4 speakers in the car! some how the speakers in there currently the damn terminals all rattled off and his head unit give him a miss-wiring error and I was like well rip all the speakers out reset the h/u, so long story short the terminals all had to get re-put on lol! stupid old car! o and the last guy who owned the car was dumb! he had a h/u in the car and rather then bypassing the factory amp he just cut the speaker wires out of the bundle and wired the speakers individually lol! stupid people considering the bypass unit cost about 15-20$
July 5, 201114 yr i always end up running my own wires into the locations anyway... allways going active,
July 6, 201114 yr Don't know if your brother plans on going to a car show and getting metered sometime, but doing the big 3 could get him a couple tenths on the meter. Other then that nice looking install and I bet he is geeked about the system.
July 6, 201114 yr like i said i bet it is.... i have a question.. why port up sub up? i would only think back/back would be lower... did you try it and it not work out?? ground... big three with the rear ground right to the frame...Does the Escort have an actual frame to ground to? I'd be surprised if it does as it seems like those kinds of cars (all, not just escorts) are never anything more than tin cans with a little sub frame in the front for the engine/transmission/suspension to mount to, but then I don't know much about those particular cars as Ford's in general give me hives. May he be better off running a 2/0 ground wire to the rear?Box looks well madeI agree 100%, well made and well finished. Is it his first enclosure Ken?
July 6, 201114 yr Author This was his first box he built on his own. He has helped me in the past with about to of my other boxes so he has a good idea on how to make them. And he loves his build to death. As for car shows I. Am he will be doing bass race and not really db hunting
July 11, 201114 yr Author very true his car and that sub combo sound very nice together and it gets loud!
July 11, 201114 yr The box looks very nice, he really pays attention to detail. That Sundown gets down, I bet he is hooked and will have a second woofer in a month.
July 11, 201114 yr Author lol I bet he will turn into a bass head also lol! this is also why I had him get a SAZ1000 so in the future he can upgrade
July 11, 201114 yr I agree with doing the big three, i saw 12.xx volts on that meter Box looks clean, going to get new front speakers by chance?
July 11, 201114 yr Author ya big 3 didn't happen as I forgot to bring my 1/0 wiring down with me lol! as for the front stage not with that car/ built maybe his next one though!and big 3 for sure IF he gets a secondary sub (amp gets turned up a bit to make more power)
