Just got the new Fi BTL n2 18", opened it up, its a 18" and its an N2 I know, but looking at my old one which I got in March 2011, this one only has 3 circular holes for "cooling". My old one has 12 square openings for the cooling. The basket is also a bit different I believe, Can somebody help me out? Im just wondering if this BTL n2 has cooling or not. Thank you. The basket is nice, just the old basket has 12 cooling openings, the new one has only 3 openings. Not sure if thats all to the cooling option now..

I believe so, but I was asking about the Cooling, it looks way different, maybe the new design works with less openings, but 3 openings versus the 12 on the other N2 I have seems like a big difference, and I wanted to make sure it had cooling before I hook it up in the morning. Anybody want to chime in =]

(I didn't want to email them either because this seems better with all the members being able to answer)

This is what Fi writes as the description of the cooling option copied and pasted directly from the website:

Cooling: Self explanatory, the cooling channels are machined into the inside of the sub to help cool the coil FAR better. But there are some things that you sacrifice. There is less metal inside of the motor so it is a little weaker. If you are looking for a tone/burp only scenario for SPL we suggest that you do NOT get this option. Stick with only the P chamfer. Now if you are looking for a daily sub to beat on and you have 2000+ watts the BTL series is for you.


It has to do with channels that are machined into the coil gap in the motor itself. I don't believe the cooling option has anything to do with the basket at all.

The cooling option is machined into the motor not the basket. Those are just venting holes and judging by the size on the new one three should be more then enough.

Thankyou bromo, I should never doubt them, best woofer I have heard, and yes I have heard systems other than mine running Fi, one that does 156 db. The SSAs that Punisher Geo runs are nice too ,off topic haha

Here's a picture of the BP power cooling option, it's only 6 channels instead of the 12 your BTL has, but it gives a great visual of the difference between a motor with and without the cooling options.

Well they were, I swear they were. I think someone like Nick may have gone through and deleted some of their old posts or something. I know he had a thread on here somewhere that he explained a good and fairly quick way to find the definite tuning of an enclosure and set the SSF accordingly I mentioned to someone in another thread but I couldn't find that either.

That or Searching > me today for some reason.

If you sit down and do the math you'll figure out that the surface area of the 12 small holes vs the 3 larger holes is actually within a gnats ass of each other..

New basket only has 3 holes...that's all it needs to vent around the top plate.

I would assume the new ones are also stronger even though it was rare for them to break.
