Ok, I was getting ready to order some 10 gauge Knu speaker wire. Then I called a friend and he said he had about 40 feet of 8 gauge Knu wire. My question is can I use the 8 gauge or would it be overkill for the power I'm running? I will be upgrading amps in the future so if I use the 8 gauge I'll be set.

Is there such thing as overkill when it comes to wire size? As long as it fits there are no negative side effects for using larger wire.

Depending on your wiring configuration, It might be hard to fit more than one wire in your sub terminal. Even with 10 gauge knu I had trouble.

Since he already has some available just use the 8ga. Worse comes to worse you will have to trim to fit.

Oh, Steve you reminded me of something I need away to easily disconnect the box if I have to for some reason. Could you get me some more pics of your post and how you have them running?

Appreciate the link. I'm trying to figure out do you put a wire with ring terminal on one side and then I see the post has a push terminal on the other. I would guess one side would be in the box and the other out.

This will be the first time using these every other time we use those little push terminals like on cheap prefab boxes, but since I'm using bigger wire I need something different.

Yep. I would do the ring terminal on the inside. That way the box could be quickly removed if needed.

That is a good deal, but the Knu will be free or $10 bucks because I'll give him something for it.

i would go ahead and get the 8 gauge

I'm thinking

If I buy two binding post I'll take the 8 gauge for the two positives and the two negatives and wrap the two negatives around a negative binding post and the two positives around a positive binding post and lay solder on top of the wires so basically the wire will be fused to the post. Then just run the wire to the amp on the outside of the box.

What it sounds like you are trying to get at, is that you are asking why he doesn't run the coils parallel instead of series. This would make the amp see about 1/4 ohm. Not many amps can handle a load like that.

But I could be mistaken. You could mean something entirely different. If you did, I am sorry, please rewrite it.

What I would do in this scenario, is run a seperate wire to each post from each coil that is going to the post like the diagram shown. At the binding post I would solder ring terminals onto the wires, and tighten them on the back of the binding post with the nut supplied.

Exactly what I'm going to do.

And thats what i get for posting late at night. I didnt read it too well. But it could have been done that way. One pair of wires coming off the negative side from the terminal, one goes to the positive on one VC of each sub and the other goes to the negative to the other VC of each sub. Then just connect the left over positive and negative. I was trying to avoid using another terminal by just stack ring terminals at the cup, your right i was thinking parallel not realizing what i was reading at all.

Are you saying stack the 8 gauge at the speaker terminal? Idk if the 2 runs of 8 gauge would fit in one terminal. I'll take a pic of the sundown terminals
