Posted April 24, 20169 yr Alright, I've seen teaser pictures of them posted on Facebook and not a word about them here on the forum. Come on Aaron, Mark, Josh, someone, it's time to spill the beans!! Give us some details, basic information, something to satisfy the curiosity about them!! Please???
April 24, 20169 yr Iv been wondering why noone has said anything about them . . Since I seen the pictures
April 24, 20169 yr Author Aaron claimed he posted info on Facebook but I tried like hell to find it and couldn't. So I tried to give them time to post about it on the forums themselves but I couldn't wait any longer, lol!
April 24, 20169 yr Been patiently waiting myself!!!! Only info I've seen about them is rms to be around 120-150ish. Edited April 24, 20169 yr by garychurch84
April 24, 20169 yr Just what I'm looking for! I mean, I like my current SB Acoustic mid woofers but I sure would like more than the 60watts rms they provide!

April 24, 20169 yr Author Yeah, I looked over the comment he made about the power handling, but that's the only information I see posted about them, lol.

April 24, 20169 yr Admin Popular Post Sorry, I have been leaking little bits here and there. It has been a very long (a year) process to get these off the ground. Because these buggers are NOT a basic overhung 1" or 1.5" coil, it took time to get parts and get the design right. Not to mention some changes at the factory that caused a number of delays. Ok, so these are a copper coil, shorting ring, solid pole, phase plug, underhung design. In final testing, they are a very very clean, warm sound. They were right at home in an IB rig that Neal helped out on big time, so dropping into an average car door is excellent. The Evil6.5's have push terminals that are good for 10 gauge wire. Nomex spiders, so they will able take the same long term abuse that the SSA subs are known for. Also, the glass fiber cones that were available, performed a little better than the poly cones in testing. I will probably be setting these at 120-150rms. Specs are below, on the bottom right. Follow the green slope for the production model. I had put together a slightly different model to see what combination of aspects were the best performing for our goals, so ignore the purple slope and specs on the left.
April 26, 20169 yr Are these designed to be a midbass or midrange driver? Will these have a "Made in USA" stamp on them?

The enclosure size I used is 4 cubic feet to simulate a leaky car door, the f3 is 148.6hz. Is this what you are expecting from this driver? Can someone tell me what the correct SD and VAS is for this driver? The units of measurement are misleading.
April 26, 20169 yr Author The correct Sd is 147.4 cm2 or 1474 mm2. If your using WinISD it'll calculate the Vas on its own with the Sd right. Or .01474 M2 if you want to work it that route, lol.

Or .01474 M2 if you want to work it that route, lol. I am using BassBox 6 Pro. Having the correct SD I was able to calculate the VAS. This brings the f3 down to 126hz. Still very high for a midbass driver. Am I missing something?
April 27, 20169 yr Author I'll have to pull my laptop out to see what WinISD said, but the slope is very shallow and coupled with the transfer function inside the vehicle it's really pretty average results from what I've seen from other drivers I've modeled in IB.
April 27, 20169 yr Admin I had originally wanted a lower Fs, but the design changed, and I really liked the sound and performance. The Qts. worked out to be around where I was aiming, and they are a little more efficient then I had originally planned. Tweaks can always be made for the next run, but as they stand, they are very smooth and have no odd coloring or break up.

It maybe average. 1 minute ago, Aaron Clinton said: I had originally wanted a lower Fs, but the design changed, and I really liked the sound and performance. I am currently hunting for a midbass driver that has strong output in the upper bass region. I've found that this really helps with blending the sub in to the front stage. I'll be waiting for the reviews to come in!

When I modeled the Evil MB against the Mach5 MLI65 the Evil only lost to the Mach5 below 100hz, above 100hz the Evil pulled ahead on output and by 200hz it levels out to around +5dB from there and up.

The Evil 6.5 does have a strong midrage characteristic which coincides with what Aaron Clinton wanted. I am sure this driver will be more efficient than most average midrange drivers and less than ideal in the <125hz area. There's that Hofman's Iron Law. Again, as Aaron Clinton mentioned, the tonality of the driver will be appealing.
April 27, 20169 yr Admin Yes, Hoffman always is around. I'll admit, at the beginning of the process, I was very hung up on specs, but I had certain aspects of the speaker that I wanted and in the end, I feel the sound was what I was aiming for. The other model I put together was with a different coil, cone, suspension and lack of shorting ring, just didn't have the warmth and the lower end I like.
