Ok. I have a 01 Ford F-250, Crew cab. I've been doing a lot of reading since my last thread. Got a better idea of what I want. I just need help deciding which route to take. First, I want a good staging and imaging. At first I didn't really care about this, but now I almost can't listen to my setup now because I can hear each speaker individually. Its really driving me crazy. As far as having a perfect reproducing of the recording, meh, I don't care so much about that. I don't want it way offf, but I want my tastes. Also, for step one I won't have a processor, I will eventually, and I'm sure I won't be able to dial everything in until, but I think I can live with it. Op…

As the topic says I am looking for any and all tips to improve my SPL. After some REAL quick testing that I'm not to sure was accurate. I was told I was doing a 143.5 Legal @ 32Hz. I believe the 32Hz part, but I'm not to sure about the numbers. So any tips, tricks, or ideas you have. Throw them my way. oh and BTW I know I need more power. I'm working on that detail:

  7. Hi all, I'm working on a design for 3 18" BTL's for a jeep grand Cherokee, the hard part about this is that he wants to run the vehicle in the "no wall" class for db drag, meaning that you cant have any part of the audio above the window line. so this creates a space issue. he also is going to be using about 6 Power master D3100 batteries. so that takes up some of the space. the space we have to work with is 66" deep x 43.25" wide x 18" or under tall. now the batteries (which will be connected with buss bars) will be in front of the box. this will take about 14 inches of the depth, so that leaves us with 52 inches. now if you try to port firing backwards that takes…

Hey guys, this is the very start of my first diy build, I've never installed a speaker in my life before today! But- I got the co-axial 6x9's into my doors this morning no problem! However, now I have a problem. I have a component set that I was going to run the 6.5's in the back door of my Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I was going to run the tweeters up front in the dash. It just so happens the tweets don't fit in the dash. Should I try mounting them on the back doors somehow? Or a pillar? Here are a few pictures. Any ideas on where to place the tweeters would be much appreciated, I'm fine with not having them next to the 6.5's. I have never worked with fiberglass, and…

If so, would anybody be willing to help me with the port. Only things i suck at are ports and alarms external is 29(w)x17(h)x9(d) Id like to do an L style, but if thats not possible labrynth is just fine. SE depth is 6 3/4" Tuning: low 30's ( if possible)

  11. I have in the past been using Loctite Heavy Duty 2part epoxy for steel to wood and steel to steel... I do not like it... It sometimes adheres good enough to steel to steel but steel to wood.. it sucks.. I have broken the bonds so many times after days of let cure... I need something GREAT!.. I had been pointed to contact cement... Is this a viable option? I have recently looked at a product claiming to be the BEST bonding agent in the world.. practically. It's called Mitrebond. It claims to glue everything to everything. They said it's actually a CA glue that has been widened for many things. Pot time is 15seconds, hehe and comes with activator. IT's $$$ for how mu…

Well, it seems that i will be getting these subwoofers a bit quicker than i thought.. Haven't order them quite yet but i decided that getting a ported box design ready couldn't hurt. Trunk Dimensions: Height = 19" (So i was thinking box should be around 17.5" maximum) Width = 36" (Narrowest point near the back seats) = 47" (More towards middle of trunk) Depth = 36" (Need room for battery, amplifiers, ect.) Now iv never dealt with Q's before so im not really sure what i should tune the port for.. It says anywhere from 28-33hz, now i listen to all types of music so i was thi…

I am in the process of redoing my front stage. It will be an active three way. My head unit is a Pioneer DEX-P99RS and my amplifier for my front stage is an Arc Audio KS900.6. My goals for my front stage is to have excellent mid bass and to create a realistic soundstage with excellent imaging. To kick of my install I started with the midbass. I currently have a Viper 650.2 component set (running active) installed for midrange/tweeter duties. I will be replacing the Viper set. My midbass install consists of Dayton Audio RS225-4 drivers mounted in very tiny (.2-.3^3ft) sealed enclosures with ScanSpeak flow resistors. The ScanSpeak flow resistors are AP mats about 4" in diam…

  16. So I designed and built my first ported box on my own, and it does not sound like i anticipated. I believe you all can help. The box is for a single 12'' Fi X with 1.6 cuft @ 31.00 Hz. The sub has a 0.1 cuft displacement, and the Fs is 25.7 Hz. I was told to tune a little higher than the Fs. The O.D. of the box is 16 x 14.75 x 21.625 The port is 8 x 2.25 x 27.875. I used WinISD to design the port. I used 11.25 sqft of port area. I was hoping for it to be musical and be able to go from high freq. to low freq. without problems, but it bottoms out easily on the lows and makes mechanical noise on the highs even with my active cross over set to 35 Hz with a 18 DB slope. …

making a custom enclosure for two sundown sa12's. which would be the best box for them? no dimensions yet, not quite sure how to calculate the volume of a ported box. --obviously the port is not to scale with the rest of the box, just gives an idea-- i felt i could draw them out better than explain them, even though they are the common boxes. feedback? suggestions? everything helps.

I have a 12" fi Q that is fully loaded, except there is no extra spider option, and no high qts option. I also have a Sundown SCV-2000d, big 3, XS Power d3400, and an XS Power XP950 in the trunk for power. I figure after all losses/drops I should be getting around 1700w rms of clean power to the sub. For mide I have 2x 6.5" Sundown Neo Pro V2's and some Image Dynamics CTX65SC's for components up front. Hopefully having some dedicated mid bass drivers will work well with a bandpass enclosure, so that I can tune that to hit the low notes and roll off right into where the Neo Pro's will take over. Lastly, It is being installed in a 2013 Subaru WRX. After some deliberation I…

I am running 2 18s walled off in my 2002 grand prix. Before I took the 18s out I was doing a 157. I am looking for a component set(I believe stock size is 5.25) so that I can hear my mids and highs over my subs. I am aiming for slightly louder next year as well. Going to try to break that 60 mark. I am not looking to do much fabrication wise so I would like to stick with stock size. I will make a cutout for a super tweeter if that is something someone recommends. I have looked and hunted around a ton, but can't really figure out where to start and what to look for. Any help would be appreciated.

I have an RE Audio SX 18. I've heard rumors that this sub can do 2,000 watts RMS fairly easily in the right box. I currently have about 500 watts going to this sub in a 10ft^3 box tuned at around 30 Hz. It's pretty loud. I got pulled over a few days ago for having my music too loud and the officer said "Dude, you were shaking my car, what do you have back there?" Got off without a ticket . I wanted to step it up a notch so I just ordered a Hifonics Brutus BRZ1700.1D. Which does 1700 RMS @ 1 ohm. I designed a box with a net volume of 7.19ft^3 tuned to exactly 34 Hz. Sub up, port back. (My old box was sub back, port back.) For the record, this is going in a 2006 Expedition.…

So last time I entered an spl I tied a guy with two 10" solo x's and a rockford fosgate t3000, and there's another in 2 weeks and im sure he will be there. I dont want to risk damaging my sub by upping the gains or voltage any more than i did last time, but perhaps i can adjust the box/ place it in my car differently? The box is a little over 4^3 at 31, and it is about a foot back in my trunk facing into the car. Only ideas i have now are putting 45's in my corners to help flow and raise tuning, and face the sub towards the trunk. Are there any little tricks anyone knows about to give me just a .1 or .2 db gain?

  24. The goal of this topic is to discuss the possible effects fiberglassing the inside of a subwoofer enclosure has on the sound? I am currently building my enclosure and am using fiberglass to make the box more ridged, prevent air leaks, prevent flexing, raise the boxes failure point of the box, and I just like building things heavy duty. I honestly never thought about the fiberglass effecting the sound until Pork Chop brought it up last night. I used the search function but did not find anything about effects on sound from fiberglassing an enclosure. I would like to hear some opinions about this from people that have experience with a fiberglassed sub box. I would also …

  25. Hello everybody I'm new here. I worked as a car audio and alarm installer 15 years ago. I have not had a decent system since...well...a long time. I bought a 1997 Honda Odyssey and I really like the van. I'd like to build a nice system. Can you give me suggestions on what components to use for a nice simple front sound stage that focuses on sound quality? I like "vocally" music. I also like dubstep and house music. I really like vocally dubstep. I also listen to talk-radio. I am thinking I am going to use a SSA DCON or GCON for bass. Maybe a SKAR 800.1 for a sub amp. I have no idea what components to use for the mids and highs. The head unit is a JVC KD-X50BT. I bought th…
