Recently I've been thinking about trying to fit a 15" Icon in the trunk of my Sunfire as opposed to the 12" I've planned. I typically would just use a slotted port, but the amount of displacement taken up by the port would bring the box pretty much all the way down to 3cft as opposed to the 4 that's supposed to be optimal. So I've been reading a bit and the idea of using Aero ports kind of interested me. However, does the recommendation for port area remain the same (12-16 square inches per cubic foot)? If so, I would need 2 6" ports or 4 4" ports, and in both configurations the port length would have to be too long. Is my only bet for fitting a 15" is to settle with some…

I have an Icon 15 in 3.5 cubes tuned to 34hz. It is being powered by a JBL GTO 1201.II amp that puts out 1100 watts at 2ohms. When I turn it up I get a smell that almost smells like paint. The gain is set a lil past half way. I notice some people on the forum are powering pairs of the 15s with like 1500 watts from a Kicker amp. Am I setting the gain too high? What could that smell be? Should I turn down the gain on my amp and turn up the sub setting on my deck? The deck I have is the Alpine CDA-9886.

So to get things going I used to run 2 sa12 on a bc2000 in my 04 cavalier.. Sold car with subs went about 5 years without any subwoofer. Got into bikes mostly other week was browsing craigslist for some cheap setup to throw in the focus well ended up coming across the post about ssa opening up in norwood he'll that's 5 min from me so I headed on down. That's where I met the man Mark Lafountain and shit just fell into place I foolishly bought a dcon and sealed kaotic 10 box from him only to want more a couple days later. At this point I was using loc tapped into the front speakers ., WASTE OF TIME stock unit eq out the bass.. Mark said when he heard it something does…

  7. So I installed my new 12" xcon last week and I could not get it to seal up against the baffle. Tried 3 times. Upon taking off the gasket i found the gasket had a tear in the seam and after really looking it over I found the basket is warped/bent in the upper right side. I can't seem to find any sort of tech support for SSA, but I don't wanna try to fix it myself unless I know I can't get it fixed under warranty. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  9. I'm doing a budget system and I'm trying to decide on which sub will work best with my space limit and amp. My space constraint is because I've got to leave enough room to get the stroller in the trunk of my 2001 E class. I'm going to build the box to make best use of the space I've got. Based on my calculations I can get up to about 2.25 CF slot ported tuned to 30hz. It's going to have to be long and rather shallow but should work. That will give me enough space to meet the optimal enclosure spec for either a 12" DCON or a 10" GCON. The 10" GCON needs 1.75-2.0 CF tuned to 28-33hz The 12" DCON needs 2.25 CF tuned to 28-33hz I'm going to be using a powerbass ASA 400.2x …

yesterday i took my box with my icon in it out of my car because i had a leak in the trunk and it ruined part of the box. and when i took out the icon out of the box i noticed that the bottom magnet had cracked all the way around it. is this something to be worried about? sub was in a box 1.35 cubes at 32hz pushed by a saz 1000d set at 1000 watts. and the sub is no more than 3 months old.

  14. I know the "is X better than Y" questions are annoying, but I'm looking to upgrade from my current set up and the DCONs seem to fit the bill. They fit the budget of $300 and the RMS ratings line up. Everything else I've looked at has much higher RMS ratings and would be better suited to running one sub off of the amp. For substage, I'm currently running four RE Audio REX 8" subs sealed in .42 cu ft each. They are being driven by an Alpine PDX-1.600 with 600w RMS (birth sheet says 666w, it's the Amp of the Beast). Overall, I have been satisfied with them - if do upgrade, they will go into my Silverado. That being said, I'm looking for more output and an upgrade in o…

We are considering doing a "trade up" program for SSA products. Loose details would include. Trade in your SSA product (SSA SUBS ONLY!) for a pre-derterminded value to be discounted off your new SSA product. Example: DCON trade (x-amount) - ICON MAP PRICE (y-amount) = total (y-x) This is just an idea at this point and we feel would help circulate our subs a bit better. We would also be selling the trade in's in our "Certified Used" Section on the shop after they have been tested. So seems to be a win win, you could get a great used product at a discount, or a brand new product at a discount. Let us know your thoughts!

Test tone at 38hz on music, peaked at 44hz. Scores on the left are sealed on the dash and scores on the right are meca (meter was on a stand on the passenger seat) I was pretty happy with no tuning at all really. Wasn't really looking to max out the db's, just wanted a base to test the sp4's against when they come in.

When I play my Icon moderately loud I get a smell that almost smells like paint and when I touch the Icon it's very warm. I like the way my sounds alot however I just find that it heats up too easily. I'm beginning to think the Icon isn't what I'm looking for in a sub if it can't take much abuse. I'm not knocking it in any way, it's a great sounding sub and can get decently loud. I just find the voicecoils get stressed too easily. Everything in my car is set up properly so I know it's not the install. Could it be just be because it's hot outside? I mean I had a pair of JL Audio W3D4 12s sealed and a pair of Orion P12s sealed and would play it as loud as I wanted an…

Hello, It is just a little review of my last subwoofer. I was running an Icon 15 dvc 2 in a 3.5 cubic feet box tuned at 32 Hz. The box was designed by Fisher customs and built by a friend for his xcon. He since, changed box, so I managed to get the old one! The Icon is one of the most accurate sub I've ever heared. I love the fact that it is loud but can play ALL the bass notes. Lot of subs plays all the notes, but this one is quite flat : like if all the notes are played at the same (high) volume. (My vocabulary is limited, so I can't really explain everything as I would !!!) The amp is a Sundown saz 1000 d. My car is a hatchback Toyota Auris.

Hey guys, I've got a Toyota Echo 4dr hatch, and I've got a Sundown SAE1200d and an XCon 15" fighting for space in the hatch area. I won't be able to make the 2.0cf smallest recommended sealed box volume recommended on SSA's tech section. I modeled the sub and it looks like a Qtc of 0.7 needs less than 2.0cf... unless I screwed up. So the ultimate question: has anybody used the Xcon 15" in less than 2.0cf and what did it sound like? Thanks!
