I used to run a single ported 10" Dcon and it was by far one of, if not the best, sub I've ever owned. Great sound quality and amazing output from a single 300 watt sub. You really can't go wrong with any SSA sub.

A male midget ho told me that his review would be: small penis, terrible in bed, but a nice snuggler. Hope that is good enough to help!

What is your opinion on the SI MAG v.3 12"? What year were they made and what year did they stop making them?
  4. 1 point
I couldn't agree more! For the money you just cannot beat the quality of sound and output it has.
  5. Thanks bro ... But I spray my engine down and keep it very clean and brushed up all the time (every time I wash the truck) ... Those connections stay clean ... This is the same setup (for the most part) going on for 3 years ... If I ever start having problems, I will sure check this out ... Thank you sir for your input !!!
  6. Sorry but this is an extremely stupid thread. There are to many factors to determine to which one would sound better. It can also depend on the listeners ear and what he likes. He may very well think that a BTL N3 in a high tuned burp box may sound better than a SSA XCON in a nice low tuned enclosure. It just depends on what he likes and what he wants.
  7. It's all a matter of opinion, I would rather have the SA12 myself though.

In terms of clarity or accuracy, in a properly built to spec sealed or ported enclosure, there should yield zero audible difference. As for the dust cap, that is the one that is meant for the Dcon design, due to its mass (same look but different dust cap for the Zcon). The Icon has a much stiffer suspension and is getting an even stronger motor then before, so it can easily handle the extra moving mass of that cone. SSA drivers go through quite a long testing phase, and do not get updated often, as in we hope to get it right the first time. There are numerous reasons for this. Think of it in terms of the automotive world, some of the very best are fully updated rarely with long life spans that have a very lengthy testing period before hand. The Icon has had minor tweaks since 2007, but only NOW is it getting a full update. Not comparing us to them, but think of how often Focal, Image Dynamics, JL, Diamond etc. etc. as I think people get the idea.
  9. got my highest score on the tl yesterday. 144.5@31hz. took home a nice 1st place trophy
  10. May I ask what the purpose is? Most people want it for lighter weight and improved performance which means they won't have an audio system in their car, unlike what you see in the ricer movies and car club scene. Really though, the cost of CF is through the roof and to get good quality components will run you thousands of dollars and easily surpass the value of your car. Just think about why you want it and if you really need it before you waste your money.
  11. m1? I have been drinking Jefferson rye whiskey and some Portuguese Madeira. A few fat cigars and life is goooooooooooooooooooooooooooood.......
  12. but if i screw down and glue the port, how do adjust it?

Budget? A single Xcon 15 ported would be nice.

Link to thread of AA Arsenal testing:

i would either go with the arsenals or some sa-12's. Iv heard that the box that comes with those skars is worse then a prefab box you can get at bestbuy. theres a reason for the price tag difference, just depends on what your willing to spend and how much your willing to give up. A pair of sa-12's wouldnt let you down, i got 2 sa-10's and it surprised the shyt out of me how loud and low they get. And the roll-off on these subs is just amazing flattest response subs i have ever heard in my experience. If you were hitting mid 140's with 2 sds which is pretty damn impressive then im sure you wont be dissapointed with some arsenals or sundown sa-12's

There's a video of an aa arsenal tested against a bunch other drivers and it did the best in output, but the skars wasn't out at the time. I would do some research on what people have to say about their skar enclosures before purchasing.

I'd vote for AA Arsenals, they are one hell of a driver, and made by a great company here in the US.
  18. If you are using an epoxy resin it is going to depend on the type of hardener you have. They can range from 4:1 to 1:1 ratios. Epoxy resin produces a "prettier" layup and is normally used in vacuuming applications. Polyester is a cheaper material and is most commonly used. I use polyester on nearly everything and it runs me $100 per 5 gallons. The epoxy resin I use for carbonfibre and Kevlar accent pieces and it runs me about $80 per gallon with hardener.
  19. You want to use a 100 percent polyester material. For some reason polyester resin does not harden as well on cotten. Most "car audio" stretching material is Alpine fleece. I use fleece from hobby lobby. At 3 bucks a yard off the discount rack you can get cheap.
  20. Seriously can't believe how small those crossovers are, obviously a bunch of cheap ass components in them. If you switch and have to use Blues I'd highly suggest at least running them active. I wouldn't run rear fill in the Silvy either. Doesn't help and does a whole lot of bad.
  21. Watched the first vid again and I have to say again that cover for the HU is SIC!!! that!!
  22. Great work on the tweeter pods!!!! Finished product will show your commitment to perfection!
  23. Oh my!! them sub's look evil!!! hehe. You did an awesome job on the sails, why not more on axis? I bought a skil orbital at walmart for like 35 bucks. They sell 50 packs of sander discs at harbor frieght for a decent price. Thats good that dinner walks right up to you, should make for easy picking's come hunting season. hehe
  24. Where is the other 25% of satisfaction on the sails? they look pretty damn clean to me. You need a custom "edub" logo for your dustcaps
  25. Those sails came out nice, wish i had some fabrication skills in the car audio arena. I just get frustrated easily with it. Can't wait to see the subs in action, they are absolute monsters, what size box you going to put them in.
  26. Just read this whole log, So much detail, your work is very impressive, congrats on your home, and the build looks great!
  27. Have heard about porting midbass in doors but seems it is not done very often. Will be tuned into this for sure!!
  28. Sweet, I've actually had the idea a while back for my jeep, ported midbass Glad to see someone doing it here!
  29. PM sent!! Just remember I charge by the minute!!
  30. Mids look beastly, can't wait to see them in your doors! 1 per side, or 2?
  31. Looks like a damn good start!!! So weird but cool to see a port in a baffle for a door!!
  32. Gotta do the family thing too............. Due to bad planning on my part and the f up witht he first 'glass attempt this is as far as I can get today. I need more fiberglass mat to finish the shell.
  33. No angle on the speakers/ports up towards the driver at all?
  34. Material has to be stretched very tight before you start to add the resin. (not trying to tell you something you may already know) When I have done work like this the tighter it is, it seems to work better for me. I have used a fleece blanket (thick as well) but have had good results. Have not tried a T-shirt as of yet... I'm sure you will get it!
  35. I have heard a lot of people using 100% polyester Ponte with good results. Is that what you used, if not have you looked into it at all? Can pick it up at Joanne's fabrics.
  36. I have used cottton shirts and fleece blanket. Both worked great for me. Thats fukt to hear about the learning curve with the hardener, I always just wing the mix too. Kool to see you trying the ports on the midbasses, I may try the same thing if I ever get back to finishing my doors, I fear with my alignment I my end up with two ports per door though. We will see what the modeling says... Are you wiring your own sub panel for your welder? And goddanm you filled my inbox when I was out of town, keep up the killer work!
  37. THe resin I speak of is semi-flexable. Contact Nick if interested. I am stoked to have a friend thats going through the same journey in life that I am. (new home, that is). Lotta work.
  38. My 20 min drive to work every day makes all work worth the effort, just to have 20 minutes of bliss twice a day.
  39. One positive point that comes from all the problems is that not just you, but everyone who's reading this is learning as well. Thanks for sharing the mishaps as well as the winning moments!
  40. I pulled off my first attempt, which was a total fail. I decided that I am not going to use an insert piece. I really want a nice smooth look to the pod. What I learned : 1. Do not use two way fabric It is just too damn stretchy. Somebody may have success with it but I can guarantee it isn't going to be easy. 2. Fabric has got to be as tight as possible. Stretch the snot out of it and then some more. I laid the fabric so the stretchy side was running top to bottom. I stapled the ends (left and right) to my makeshift plywood work table. This would help assure it is tight. I started in the center and worked my way outward on a radial direction. The entire piece to a good bit of a hour to wrap. Next up : 2-3 layers of glass on the inside and one layer on the outside. Couple more things I learned. A couple areas around the edge of my mold were not smooth (If measured with a straight edge). So when I was wrapping the fabric along the edge it formed slight imperfections. These imperfections will add time to smoothing the contour of the pod that I could have done a lot faster with resin or 'glass before I wrapped the pod.
  41. Yeahhh I think it was my electrical at the time
  42. Lol I know I am pretty ignorant. But I try my best lol
  43. Damn dude, sorry to hear this. Hope everything is ok with you. I have had times when I just needed to back off and re-group.
  44. Aw man sorry to hear this. Hopefully everything is ok. Been watching this build. Congrats on your future wedding and baby. I will be looking for the sale too.
  45. Sorry to hear about things coming to a halt with the build man. You have alot of great things going on in your life though and that's something to be very happy about. You'll have time to get everything completed at some point I'm sure. Congrats and good luck with the baby, wedding, and business!
  46. Damn Bro, was catching up on this great build and you drop a bomb like that at the end. Fuck that Bro. Just set it aside and take a little break from it. The bug will bite you again and then what? You sold all your stuffs, oh hell no. I know how you feel man, I have so much shit I need to finish up on mine but don't have time to do much of anything lately. Lots of stuff sitting in the closet tho. lol While your project may have to wait, you are a very blessed man. New wife, a baby, and a new business. Congratulations buddy!!!!!!!
