  1. I like to use Valspar high gloss and sand it and clear coat it then polish it to a mirror shine. Black always looks awesome done that way it shines like a grand piano if done correctly. You will need some spackling to put a thin layer on the whole thing before the paint and clear. And the better the surface before paint the better the results.

The rep system is a great feature, imo. Is nice to to say "hey I had an epiphany from your post" or "thanks for the information", without adding a comment. Don't know that the neg- feature does much good though, as any mis-imformation is going to get called out verbally anyways. The need for people to feel validated and important to the rest of the herd is nothing new. Clearly the real issue here seems to be one gentlemen's need to feel validated. Unfortunately he just keeps alienating the herd, instead of contributing to gain that respect. Beyond that, any regular visitor here knows where M5 and Billy are coming from. M5 does acoustical work for a living and his opinion is usually logic based and very discerning. Billy's opinion is generally to stroke his own ego, gain attention and tell everybody how a hillbilly would do it. I am sure billy is proficient is whatever trade he does, but its clearly not electrical or acoustic work. I personally like both opinions and use them to make my own. Which is usually somewhere in between. As far as the initial disagreement I clearly agree the old thought process of this brand is better than that brand is gone. People know better now and search for dollar to performance ratio, not bragging rights. The 90's are gone, and so is the ignorance. Now to the average person just searching the web for say "what sub fits a nissan car", will most likely go right back to google as soon as he gets in a topic full of people blabbing about everything other that the topic. Unfortunately those topics stay on the internet for years and effect the reputation of this site, that others have spent years to build. Hopefully this helps you, billy, understand why people do not care for your useless posts. I am not saying we don't want you here, but if you want to feel important and get validation on this site you need to adjust your roll bro. If you don't like the effect, dont produce the cause.
  3. I use Greot's all in one buffing compound, then after its all done I use their best of show paist wax to really make it pop. The most important thing is getting all the edges sealed really good, cause wood is porous and will just drink the paint, if it's not sealed good. Plus after you start wet sanding the paint, it would be really bad if any water made its way into the wood.
  4. mmmm xcons, you will love them in any alignment
  5. I joined in 2012 but didn't get an XCON until this year... and couldn't be happier. It really was worth the wait for me. If you're struggling financially get one 18" and worry about getting another later. When you get a second (and you know you will ) you can sell your enclosure to help recoup some of the money spent on the new box. Just be careful when selecting the impedance of the first sub you buy, you don't want to be running 4 ohm or .5 ohm daily...
  6. Nothing special about the IDQ. You'll love the Xcon. If you buy two, why not port the pair?
  7. Jeep trip this weekend:
  8. I am supprised the Kerf didn't split with the direction of the grain.... it would bend a bit easier with the outside grain going horizontal.. still a nice build though
  9. I totally agree ... LOVED my first run of Icons ... smooth with outstanding low end extension the newer version left me diss appointed nice design , I bet that cap really improved things
  10. Now for the best SQ sub SSA has ever rolled out hands down.
  11. Get one ported, and go work on your car !
  12. Fuck dude, this is so simple. I understand that this is your first audio forum so I will say this for your information. What you do here by trying to point out mistakes, correct them, or to make them look bad to make yourself look better at someone else's expense is considered trolling on an audio forum. Plain and simple. What's worse is you're trolling moderators. Nothing good can come from you doing this. If a moderator gives wrong info, it will not be your fault and will not reflect on you in any way. Best thing to do is to leave him alone. I'm taking my time on my very busy Sunday to type all this shit just to help you out cause you seem like a cool dude. However you take it from here, "may the force be with you my brother" is all I can say.
  13. Great photo, that is what sells a Miata.
