    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Having a strange itch for a 5 or 6 channel for my daily. Can't dig into SSA stock as we have to sell them. And with so little room in theIS (the big Orions, big ZEDs, and Big PG's won't fit), either I use my little old RF's, old SoundStream Refs, or a slew of my old US Acoustics, or.... I find a single 5/6 channel to scratch the addiction. Old SoundStreams don't like much signal damn this addiction. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Soundstream-REF5-1000-5-Channel-Car-Amp-plus-SoundStream-BX-15-bass-processor/123498299436?epid=92190487&hash=item1cc112802c:g:r-oAAOSwMhVb7xvI:rk:42:pf:0 Oh wait, can't do jack shit until the exhaust is repaired, and the car passes inspection and the headlight leveling sensors are on.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Sean, I appreciate the advice here. As much as I love to want to prove someone wrong, your spot on unfortunately. Looks like I need to steer myself towards building a portfolio based upon product photography and getting in with a firm. Either that or concentrate on project management, which is only certification and not a degree.

Well, it's been a while but I thought I'd give a final update. I decided to just make the fronts sound as best they can. Using tones, I set the crossover to as low as I could go before they started losing sound. That turned out to be around 60, when I went lower, they just didn't play it. Then I adjusted the sub amp to the same point tones. I wonder if time has anything to do with this, do speakers wear in? It sounds better now than ever. Drums from the front punch, loud, the bass is perfect and the high end is crisp and clear. My system does not have much power, but the sound quality is what I wanted, and have. My head unit blew up, I think that cheap Dual amp for the subs did it. It was making popping noises for the last year. Now I'm just using the KAC-8405 for the fronts and subs, and I swear it sounds better. I replaced the KDC-X397 with a KDC-X302, this one plays .flac so no more .mp3's, no more lossy music. I really want to thank everyone here, all the advice helped me to achieve my goal, quality sound.

I have an occasional few every now and then. Other than that I’ve drank enough for two lifetimes. Growing up in the family bar was a great start.

In all truth can’t say it does much for me either. Helps with pain. Would say helps with creativity, but I’m pretty much in my own universe naturally. Lol

Thanks Aaron! I really like the Troels style designs. Where each driver is in independent cabinets. Has been a blast! Excited to build a few more.

This Lexus is fighting me all the way!

I’d find a spot in the trunk/bottom of the car that you can feel both sides at the same time with each hand. That’s the spot! You won’t even need a helper to put the nut on. I suspect the grounds under the hood are mostly at fault at this point. Sounds like the ground in the trunk is at least satisfactory. The battery ground to engine/battery ground to body/amp to body. Those are the ONLY control points. If those are done, the amp ground is basically “independent” from the car ground so to speak. Make sure to use the same size wire for all grounds. So if your amp uses 0ga, use 0ga for the under hood grounds. Reconnect the factory ground to the battery also. VOILÀ!!

This Lexus is fighting me all the way!

Man you are definitely speaking the word here! When I first discovered that I was having a ground issue was when I changed my ground to go to a larger sub amp thinking I would need a better (possibly) more direct connection to the same chassis metal that the battery negative was grounded to so I drilled through the floor of the trunk in the spare tire well into what is obviously sheet metal stamped around the frame. It's what I consider an obvious frame member because it's even reminds me of the old Chevy truck "ladder" type framework. I drilled down a couple inches and then actually took my angle grinder and ground down into the paint and then took my Dremel tool and with a wire brush I kinda polished it up a bit just so it wasn't freshly ground metal and to ensure that I got any tiny paint particles out of the way. This was the worst ground I had the whole time! Which still confuses the living shit out of me because like you're thinking that should be the BEST ground I could possibly have. One thing I did not do though was to drive a bolt all the way through like I think you are talking about and that may in fact be what makes that even yet the best place for a ground. So I will try your advice and see what happens. The only thing I'm dreading is that there is a plate of some sort under the car that hides the frame of the car from being easily accessible so I think I'm going to have to go in through the wheel well and maybe drive the bolt sideways though I'd rather do it vertically. Either way I'm gonna try it when I get ahold of the drill bit and the bolt I need to do it! lol That's gonna be a chore! but the outcome might be awesome! I swear man I was getting ZERO output out of the VFL 2k amp and it would show a green light up until the first bass note would hit and then it would switch right into protect mode so I quickly pulled the battery and tried again.. and again... and again... until I had swiss chees for a trunk! lol J/K... So wish me luck.. And I REALLY appreciate the help..
