Ok I read the above posts and wondered if I was right

Ok, so basically a gain is this : the voltage from the RCA wires is say 250mV, and the amp takes that and does its thing which would amplify it by say 90dB, which means the subs would be receiving 250mV * 90dB, whatever that is.. and then introducing the gain just increases the voltage from the RCA to the amp so the amp would perceive the RCA to be sending a higher voltage, say 250mV * 10dB of gain, which the amp would then amplify the 250mV * 10dBof gain * 90dB which would then hit the speakers.. Is that correct?

All the numbers are just random, just tryin to see if I got the idea..
