What tools and methods do I need to calculate my imp rise. 1 15" AA SMD, Sundown saz 3000d. 4^3 @ 31hz, 30^2 port area (I know way to small, just testing an aeroport). Sub wired to .75 ohm Just got a clamp meter today and messing around I did 18.4 amps & 79.8 volts @ 37hz. I want to know what the impedance is doing but not exactly sure how to check for that Thanks

  3. It has been debated rather hotly for years, and now it has become pretty much accepted that MP3 and sound quality do not mix. But why is it? Why do some people hear so much loss in their systems and others don’t? Are my old ears really better then someone 30 years my junior? Someone who still has a large amount of their hearing range left, while mine has deteriorated over the years should be able to hear these losses better then I! I started with home tower speakers in the back seat of my old Delta88 back in the days when we had no real systems, and we still had post mounted tape decks and 8-tracks. Then times changed, and we started putting in tape decks with trunk mount…

I am going to install a sub/amp in a 2000 Accord EX this weekend. Has the factory CD player in it. Does anyone know if that will have a power turn on/powered antenna output to switch the amp on/off? I don't want to wire a switch or run it off ignition... Also, no PAC TRUNK-LOC or anything like that in the build, amp has high level inputs, and that is all it will get... Any help would be appreciated guys... -Mike

So I ordered a new tool for the tool box, and received it in the mail today. And the tool of the day is: a Vellman HPS10SE O-scope Now how exactly do I go about using it? (altough it has an auto fucntion) I'm pretty much going to be using it to set gains at work and at home on my own projects. I have all the test tones one could need thanks to AutoSound 2000. Basically I need to know how I hook it up to the amp to measure the wave and what should I be using as a load? I've heard/seen of resistors (dummy loads) or reactive loads (speakers). I would assume that using the reactive loads would be better, but I have been known to be wrong before. There is a centre pin and wire…

I'm going to try to make this as simple as possible, there are only certain way woofers can be wired. You cannot wire them in anyway you choose to any ohm load you choose. There are rules to follow with Ohm's Law, which is why it's a Law and not a suggestion. I have seen it a few times in the last 2 days, where people say they will wire them in two different way with only one being possible, and it is very annoying, and no ones seems to want to point it out. So, I will try to make a simple list of basic woofer voice coil configurations and the only ohm loads you can wire them to. And for the noobs "Ω" is the symbol for Ohm Single Dual 4Ω woofer: Parallel 2Ω - Series 8Ω …

Hello I am having problems with the JBL GTO 1514D. I have made the enclosure to the jbl specifications. It is in a 3.45 cube box with a 4 inch PVC port that is 13 inches long. However I am getting a LOT of port noise, which makes the audio very dirty. I am using this subwoofer in a home audio application. When building the box i used liquid nails to seal the joints of mdf boards, and I also used 1 5/8 coarse thread drywall screws. After this was completed I coated the inside with fiberglass resin to fortify the interior. The sub is recessed and down firing with a back facing port the amplifier is also on the back. These cutouts have been sealed with silicone, as well as…

Power compression is a topic that is rarely discussed, but always important. When you hear someone call various theile/small parameters a “small signal parameter”, the implication is that with larger signals (more power), there will be a shift or change in these theile/small parameters. This is what we call power compression, and occurs in 3 potential ways. The first thing to consider is how theile/small parameters are derived. There are 5 basic parameters from which all other data is extracted. These parameters are Re, BL, Mms, Sd, and Cms. So looking at this from a mathematical standpoint, a change in any of these parameters will cause a change in all other parameters a…

I recently have taken out my Fi Q and put in another sub to test/listen to before sale. During the uninstallation of my Q I fussed with my amp / tightened conections/took rcas out but not power or ground wire/ lifted it off the amp rack exc. Upon reinstalltion of my Fi sub when volume gets high, the sub seems to be skipping out on hitting its notes/ skips. I was thinking off the bat that it was my rcas gone bad, as it has happened before. Another side of me thinks that its my electrical, maybe one of my batteries is dead and is only kept charged by the rear battery. I have a horrible but operating set up -to regular starting battery 4 gauge to battery in back which i…

  25. So im helping my buddy hook up his little system but ive come to a blank.. he wants an amp for his sub then an amp for his speakers. ive done this type of installation only once and i think i got lucky but ill get to the point, um how do you wire two amps in one car ? so to my knowledge, pos and neg from battery to distribution block, then two pos and neg to the two amps. right? for the headunit im also a little confused, both amps only have inputs so how do i split the rcas? im guessing some type of wire splitter for those and both amps have two inputs? and for the remote, do i use a distribution block for that or is it possible to put it in one amp and then to the o…
