A few years late, but we are finally getting a very nice tweeter going that is worthy of being a part of the SSA line.  The pictures below show the prototypes, they are really attractive in person and will, in production form, bare the SSA logo.  See the attached files for the 4 and 8 ohm versions.  They are quite smooth to my ear (aka not super bright like some metal dome tweets can be) and blend well with the Evil6.5's (vital to the design).  These are not a PA style, 'screamy' tweet, these are meant for sound quality first and foremost.  Possible future home audio plans.  Pricing is not set just yet. These will be sold as a pair.

Some quick points of info:

  • 28mm Silk Dome, Large Roll Surround
  • Aluminum Faceplace and Housing
  • Sound Transparent Grill
  • Low Fs. for flexibility in both Home & Car
  • Neo Motor with Shallow non-Resonant Chamber
  • 61.9mm (2.44") dia. flange, 21.5mm (.85") depth
  • 65 watts rms

  • Gorgeous.  If they perform like they look they should take the active audience by storm.   With no a priori measurement details and only seeing the plot, I think Aaron's response is conservative.

For the price I give these 5 stars and for an audiophile tweeter I would give them at least 4 stars. Doing mild tuning still and these just get better and better with mild boosts and cuts (.2 db here

The tweeters are heavy, they look nice. You want to touch them, like a high end product. Congratulations. Smooth, accurate, more musical than my old Focal tn52. I'm still listening to those

That's VERY attractive!  Will the chamber be removable to alter damping?

Good question.  Hadn't planned on it.  I can ask the build house if that is something do-able.

Should work great down to say 2600 htz ??? Or you thinking 3000 ???

According to the graphs the Fs is 736hz for the 4 ohm and 838hz for the 8 ohm version. So there's a good potential for a great crossover point with these.

Cool. Anybody know at what price point these will be sold at? :phatyo:

Are they better suited on-axis or off-axis? Those are badass for sure

I know I should wait on users feedbacks, but I'm already interested !

I hope the price will be right. :)

Im sure the price will be real friendly, ssa is good at pricing things just right

Yes, it took a few attempts to get it that low.  First few were not mapping out well.  Was messy, but worth it in the end I feel.

Once I have all the final details (numbers wise), I will be able to set pricing then.

I did not set out to have these specific to one way or the other.  They needed to be home audio friendly (on axis) and car audio friendly (off-axis). Sure, they lean towards on-axis in through testing, but they can still perform well off-axis.

Gorgeous.  If they perform like they look they should take the active audience by storm.

With no a priori measurement details and only seeing the plot, I think Aaron's response is conservative.  The response curve looks easily adaptable to both almost on and off axis response in car.  Obviously nothing will beat a really small diaphragm for off axis response, but the flexibility of such a low Fs will more than counteract that in more than 90% of installs.

The last thing I need is another set of tweeters...but pretty sure my curiosity won't be squelched until I own a pair.

Aaron has been working very hard on the development of these new EVIL1's, and one made it's way up to me in NY for photos.  We are still undecided on the logo color, hence the two different renderings.  What do you guys think?

dayum sexy! I think the white would be more muted for most installs... red can be too much maybe?

Wish I had something to put this set (6.5 & tweet) in for personal enjoyment.

I have a birthday coming up .........

Black and Red SSA is more subtle and fits the Evil theme, I like it better.
