ferrofluid

Recommended Posts

dude read down

"Ferrofluids are also used in many high-frequency speaker drivers (tweeters) where they provide heat conduction from the voice coil to the surrounding assembly as well as mechanical damping to reduce undesired resonances. The ferrofluid is kept in place in the magnetic gap due to the strong magnetic field and is in contact with both the magnetic surfaces as well as the coil"

Older RF drivers used it a lot. It is a thick dark oil like fluid right on the voicecoil filling the gap. They said it cooled the VC for more power handing. I've seen a lot of tweeters with it in there. It really looks like dirt will collect on it but it seemed to not be a problem. Is it better....I can't say.

It would be cool to get some then do an experiment to see how much more power it can thermaly handle. i personly think that with how much the vc moves up and down on a spl sub it would push it out but im probly wrong.

My old original FR Fanatic Q's have the fluid in the tweets.

It just adds power handling via cooling, regularly used in pro audio drivers.
