painting MDF

Recommended Posts

so my friend tried to paint the box he made for his girlfriends jeep black, but where the screws are its all messed up, and the paint is dark and light in some places and fades alot and doesnt look that appealing all together, i figure i could just use woodfiller for the spots for the screws and sand it down flat, but what about getting all the paint even and pretty? need to make one for a guy i know and he wants it painted so anything will help, thanks

Go to either Home Depot or Lowe's and look for Deft - sanding sealer. Apply that, and make sure to use extra on the end "grain" where MDF loves to soak up even more. Prime, sand, prime again, and paint...

Be sure to use Deft in a well ventilated area, it has quite the odor. :)

I actually need to buy some more, the BIB's are going to need it if I have a hope of getting the pine trim to take stain evenly...
