Battery help?!?!?!?

Recommended Posts

ok well im in a bit of a tight squeeze. My car is old and i am unsure how long it will be running for, it might go for a year it might go for 7 more i dont know.

So i am looking at cutting my old alt out of the question and putting a battery bank, well sort of in the trunk of my car.

Im looking into prices and i could get 2 red top batts from wally world for the price of one g31 yellow top.

The red tops are about 800cca, g35 i believe, where as the g31 is 1000+cca. now my question is which is the better alternative.

running 2 batts i was thinking would help keep the voltage up but i am unsure of this because i know nothing about batterys.

Or the other alternative is i could get 3-4 purple haze batts from crappy tire for the rough price of 3 red tops. Which is the better option to go with because a new alt is out of the question because if the car dies soon atleast i can take the batts to my next car, where as the honda alt needs to stay with the honda car :( .

any tips or tricks are very much appreciated, and i am working slowly on the big 3 as i have 2 of the 3 lines ran, i just need to add the batt to alt connection.

1) go with one good batt under the hood.

2)keep the stock batt and just stick 2 red tops in the trunk.

3) get a bunch of chitty crappy tire batts and just let er wang.

which option would you choose?

Why Redtops? Its my understanding that they're more of a starting battery than a Deep Cycle.

I thought that's what the Yellow tops where for.

Sup, Yellow tops are a DEEP cycle batt unlike the red tops. red tops are designed to discharge a large amount of power fairly quickly. yellow tops are designed to discharge power at a slower rate (which is what you need) its all in the amp hours in the specs. Basically you dont want your batt to prematurely blow its power you want staying power such as a yellow top (DEEP cycle batt) heh

So now that were on the same page (DEEP cycle), Your right about the batts being a better choice when going from car to car than a alt, so yes I would invest in some batteries first, but keep in mind if your system power demand grows to large it really doesnt matter how many batts you have if you cant keep them charged.

i know this. so thats where a voltage display and a batt charger come in handy hahaha.

so what about a blue top? they are a little less expensive then a yellow top. will they not be able to keep up with my single saz1500?
