15" Enclosure recommendations for the Icon (home and vehicle)

Recommended Posts

I've been meaning to do this for a while but haven't had a chance yet.

15" Icon

Home Sealed

Lower power - 4-5.5 cubes

Higher power - 2.5-3 cubes sealed

Home Ported

Music - 4 cubes tuned to 30 Hz

Home Theatre - 5 cubes tuned to 20 Hz (can tune lower if wanted)

Vehicle Sealed

2-2.5 cubes sealed

Vehicle Ported

3.5-4 cubes tuned anywhere from 28-35 Hz

Any of those should work just fine. It's very important that you match your enclosure to your application. If you do so, you'll be very happy. :)

12?" 15?"

What's the cutoff for higher and lower power levels?

Oh Jim... you have bested me again!

Recommendations are for the 15" Icon, as that is the size I used. Hopefully in the near future I will have some of the 10's and 12's up here as well.

For 2.5-3 cubes, I would say no more than 1 kW is necessary in the house. For those who really like to push their subs in a vehicle, you could do 1500 W on the smaller side. For 4-5.5 cubes, I'd say 500-800 W is appropriate. Keep in mind that music is very transient in nature; if you're putting 1.5kW on the Icon via a lower frequency sine wave for many successive hours, you will be putting the coil in more trouble than is necessary.

Thank you Neil!!!

But yes, we will need some well tested home audio ideas for the 12's. I will work on really pin pointing the 10" box specs more than what is on the site right now.

would ths be to big for the Icon15? the box would be 7^3 gross tuned to 36hz.

That is more then really needed for a car audio install.

That's quite a bit larger than recommended. If you run one that large, prepare to use a lot less power.

Two would certainly fit that space much better, but you should lower your tuning to 31hz. The ICON's thrive at that frequency.
