15" SI-D2 review

Recommended Posts

well i just got my first listen to a 15" SI-D2, and i must say that i am even more impressed than i was planning to be. i was expecting nothing less than spectacular, what i got was slightly beyond amazing.

the box i was using is a 5 cube box tuned to 43 Hz. it is a CRX style box being used in a sedan with the woofer firing upwards and the ports venting to the rear of the trunk. i know that this set up is less than ideal, however it was what i had on hand, and i dont have the time to build an appropriate box for it right now. even with this minor set back though, i am still very pleased with the result.

the SI D2 delivers very taught, punchy, intense, and chest pounding transients. the drum kicks from albums i was listening to came through very clean, and they were delivered with amazing force behind them. all told, this sub has amazingly tight, accurate response that is pleasingly suprising.

the first song i listened to was A Perfect Circle, pet. the D2 seemed to laugh as it reproduced the lows, and slammed out the kick drums. the sub kept up with everything without any trouble at all, and i was very happy having it in my trunk.

second song i listened to was A Perfect Circle again, but this time i listened to Thomas from their first album. once again the sub remained very clean and powerful. in the last half of the song there are strong bass hits that the D2 handled excellently. it presents these bursts with lots of force, and exerts its presence very strongly. it also gets very low and the response seems to be very linear down low. i have heard other subs that dropped lower than this, but none came close to the accuracy and power of this sub.

after this brief listening i am extremely pleased, and cant wait to listen to the D2 for the remainder of this week. my only regret is that i already own 4 claw basket mag 12"s. i must say, great work nick. this is truly an amazing subwoofer.

and also on a serious note, if i can manage to fit enough 15"s in my car... there might be 4 claw basket 12"s for sale soon ;)

Hmm, been wanting some claws. Need pics!

pics of the claws, or pics of the 15? the claws are actually on the SI web page(the red explorer was my last car). as for the 15, nothing new there, new sub in a huge box in the back of a taurus. i can get some pics if you want, and i am about to post some pics of my car with no interior as soon as i get them on my computer. prepare yourselves for the mother of all stereo integrity installs.... :D

as far as comparing the 12 to the 15, the only difference is output. since i have never heard a single 12 in a box of this magnitude i cant really make an exact comparison. sa far as accuracy goes though, the 15 goes head to head with the 12. it is just as tight and accurate, but it really gets nasty loud. i talked to nick about my experience with it earlier, and told him that it is one of the most amazing subs i have heard :) . anyone in the moorseville/charlotte area wanting to hear a 15" can contact me, and hear it for themselves :)

oh yeah, i almost forgot to mention...

New Kids On The Block really is the best(nick convinced me of this today)

and from now on out, my car will be reffered to as "project Hammy". i think that no explanation is needed.

Hollis was questioning my heterosexuality when I told him "we've got to find New Kids On The Block, we just have to". :) Then when he found out that it's a dirty old towel that I use to clean up stuff he just started laughing. :D

I think I can squeeze a 15 and two 8's in my car. I love the 12...but man the 15's are just awesome. :slayer:

Just think what an 18 would sound like!! :slayer: :boink:

I'd be in heaven with one, but I don't believe I'm destined to own anything larger than 15". :thud:

I got my 15 this friday as well when I opened the box about all I could do was :thud:

I had it installed by 2:30 am into a 2.9 cubic foot sealed box powered with a viper d1200.1 amp (1200wrms into 1 ohm) in the trunk of my car and I must say that I have never heard such accurate and loud reproduction of bass in my life.

SI, Thank you for such a great product!

just an update: second day with sub, more A Perfect Circle, and i am still being amazed :) .

it seems that this sub just loves to be driven hard, and a single H-1 will get it going really good, and ful excursion looks really cool :D . and on a similar note, the Tru H-1 makes breaking in a sub really fast and easy :-p

i submit that it becomes Stereo Integrity's new policy that i be put in charge of breaking in all woofers before shipping :D

i have to agree with what hoss said there the siD2s are a great sub ive never been happer with a purchase. the siD2s are a verry responsive sub and will do it with with any kind of power on them i have run 350wrms on a pair and ive run 800-1000w on them in a 6ft^3 box ported tuned to 32hz and they were great on all i have money that says thy will sound great on a head unit :P nick let me pre order 3 of the si 8s for the car ;) .

anyone that wants to see and hear them in the charlotte statesville area let me know would be more than glad to show them bad boys off

I don't think that plank of wood you used as a dust-cap has ANYTHING to do with the lack of efficiency on your Nuke... NOTHING.

:D

oh yeah, i forgot to post my scores from the mic yesterday :)

did a 141.1 legal on the dash on a new termlab. there was a very small show in SC yesterday and that is where i got metered(didnt compete though). i posted the highest legal score out of everyone there, adn the only score that was higher than mine was a 145.7 done at the kick of a ford escort with a visonik sub and amp.

141.1 legal out of 1 15" is good enough for me. especially considering the voltage issues i am having, and that the box isnt designed for this sub or car.
